Janet Abaroa's friends and family have testified that she was scared of her husband and his drastic mood swings and that she thought he might have had bipolar disorder.

"When she was around him, she was nervous," her sister, Erica Bakey, told jurors Wednesday afternoon.

Bakey testified that, during college, her sister had to get permission from Raven Abaroa before going places and that later on in their marriage, he was always with his wife and never let her be alone on family visits.

"It felt like she was slowly disappearing," Bakey said. "The joking, happy, upbeat sister I knew – by the time Kaiden was born – wasn't there anymore. Her personality was gone."

DURHAM —
Will newly rediscovered evidence in the trial of Raven Abaroa reveal the truth about what happened the night Janet Abaroa was stabbed to death on April 26, 2005?

On Thursday morning, after receiving information about the location of evidence in the Raven Abaroa trial, Detective Charles Sole of the Durham Police Department went to the department's forensic office, unlocked a cabinet and found evidence from the Abaroa case stored there, said Assistant District Attorney Charlene Coggins-Franks Thursday.

Aaaand now WRAL says the hearing is at noon. I guess we'll wait a couple more hours!

DURHAM —
Raven Abaroa, whose murder trial ended in a mistrial last week, is scheduled to appear again today in Durham County Criminal Superior Court to set a new date for his trial.
However, Abaroa could come to court and plead guilty to killing his wife, Janet Abaroa, although that scenario appears unlikely based on a waiver his attorney filed Wednesday asking that he not be brought to the courtroom for the hearing.

Her father, two sisters and a family friend spoke, asking why Abaroa didn’t just divorce his wife instead of killing her.

“Janet loved Raven,” said LaVerte Dowd, a close family friend of the young couple when they were newlyweds. “She loved Raven. She was willing to overlook his infidelities. She was willing to overlook his embezzlement, his controlling nature. She wanted their marriage to work because she loved him.”

“He threw that away as though it was garbage,” Dowd said.

Woman 'Lucky' to Get Away from Husband Accused of Murdering 1st Wife

ust days after Raven Abaroa -- who was accused of killing his wife, Janet Abaroa, in 2005 -- agreed to plead guilty to a voluntary manslaughter charge, his second wife said she was lucky to get away from him.

"I was lucky enough to get out," Vanessa Pond told ABC News' John Quinones in an interview this week. "Janet was not. I don't want to see that again."

Raven Abaroa entered an Alford plea on March 12, acknowledging that there was evidence to convict him but not admitting guilt. A judge sentenced him to between 95 and 123 months in jail. But, with time served, he could be out in less than four years.

"I was shocked. But ... more than that, I was shocked at what the plea deal turned out to be," Pond said. "That's not justice at all. It's not justice."

Pond had advice for other women who might meet Raven Abaroa when he is released from jail.

"Please listen to what's out there, what's available on the Internet," Pond said. "Please don't be drawn in, and please get away ... as fast as you can."
