"It's unfortunate that the grave was not the proper one," Faulk said.
From news link

Amazing! How can so called professionals simply make this statement and walk away as if nothing happened here? Of all the unprintable words and phrases describing this horrendous event..."unfortunate" just doesn't seem appropriate. Everyone working on this case still have a job?Any State or Federal agency going to Hancock county to examine other records or determine if anyone knows how to document an autopsy report? If not...why not?

I have no words, printable or otherwise. :(

I really hope they are able to identify this woman. I was trying to compare missing persons photos with a sketch but its hard sometimes with out a morgue photo. For some reason it wont load for me.

Not sure what is not loading for you. Doe net has the sketch. You can find her post mortem photos here. Carl also did a recon; post #7

Unidentified White female

* Located on May 8, 1998 in Hancock County, Mississippi.
* Manner of death was a pedestrian vs. automobile accident. Cause of death was multiple injuries of blunt impact. Death occurred minutes after being hit.

Vital Statistics

* Estimated age: 37 - 42 years old
* Approximate Height and Weight: 5'3½" (161 cm.); 130-135 lbs. (59-61 kg.)
* Distinguishing Characteristics: 16-18 inch-long, curly reddish-brown hair with a touch of gray at the temples and front. Her natural hair color was brown, but had been dyed a slightly lighter color. She had uniquely-colored gray eyes. The victim had a vaccination scar on her left arm and an old hysterectomy scar from a C-section running from her navel down to her pubis. Closer examination revealed that the woman had given birth to at least 2 children, perhaps more. Her ears were not pierced. There were no signs of alcohol or drugs in her system. Seven "Ephedrine-Guaifenefine MINI" pills were found in her right back jean pocket. She suffered from black lung disease, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Thick mucus was present in her lungs. The victim was tan and freckled; bug bites were present on her body. Her legs and underarms were unshaven. Her fingernails and toenails were short, uneven and dirty. There was a black, greasy smudge on the medial right foot from the base of the first toe into the arch.
* Dentals: She had no teeth or dentures.
* Clothing: She was wearing Bongo jeans, a black, hooded Spalding Activewear sweatshirt with Florida on the front and blue velvet slippers. No socks or underwear.

Case History
The victim was found 230 ft. off of the eastbound lane of 1-10, near Exit 2, Mile Marker #4 in Hancock County, Mississippi.
She was found face down, her head toward a wooded area, slanting in grassy area. A group of teenagers traveling in a 1998 green Mitsubishi had thought that they had hit a deer. This happened between 2 am. and 3 am., however the victim was not discovered until 10:40 am by a trucker.
After hearing of the unidentified woman being hit, the subjects who hit her came forward.
The victim had been flung approximately 230 ft. away from the interstate when she was hit.
An autopsy was performed and it was found that she had recently eaten. French fries and pickle slices (as well as a thick brown liquid), but no meat, was found in the esophagus and stomach.
She had numerous small hydatid cysts in her oviducts. Hydatid cysts are caused from a parasite that is accidentally ingested when consuming contaminated/unsanitary food. The victim also had moderate osteoarthritis in her spine, as well as numerous gashes and lacerations over most of her body. She suffered 21 broken ribs as well as a lacerated liver.
Cause of death was a fracture of the cervical spine, compression-contusion of the spinal cord, lacerated abraded scalp, a deep laceration of the right popliteal region (knee-joint) and left heel, a fractured right femur and multiple deep abrasions of the trunk, extremities and face. There was a hair resembling the scalp hair entangled in the fingers of the left hand.

Thousands of inquiries have been made about this individual, but she has not been identified as of this date.

How about Patricia Vaughan?

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/3292/2/

Height is right, weight is right, hair color seems good, age matches. Patricia's eyes are listed as blue vs Jane Doe as grey. There's a 16 year gap between them. Plenty of time for her to lose her teeth. Have a few kids. Get black lung.

There is some evidence (I have no idea what) that Patricia's last known activity was in fact in West Virginia, prime coal country.

Autopsies tell the bare-bones truth. Moderate osteoarthritis of the spine tell me she had back-breaking jobs. And if she's suffering from black lung, she had to be a miner for a good while, which possibly have aggravated her lung condition if she was taking decongestants. If she was tanned and had bug bites, she most likely surface mined. If she didn't have a job mining at the time of her death, she worked outdoors or was living in the woods or housing in horrendous condition. Her health issues tell me she was born into extreme poverty. They spend all their lives on eating occasionally (and always unhealthy) and drinking cheap soda, which could explain why she was toothless. Smoking doesn't help your oral hygiene any, either. Dentistry isn't cheap, and many people think they can live just fine never going to a dentist. When you become a young adult never going to a dentist (to get your teeth cleaned or get fillings), you get gum disease which eventually makes your teeth fall out. By their 30s, they are half toothless or suffer from tooth abscesses. There are some charity mobile dentists volunteering in these areas. They roll in these towns once a year. People who have oral hygiene issues often go there to tell the dentist "just pull all of them" and be done with it. Teeth extraction is the most cost-effective way of solving tooth issues. And they don't even get dentures, either, for obvious reasons.

I think this woman may come from the Mississippi Delta from the way she lived her life.

A while back on this thread I had posted some information on black lung disease. It is an occupational exposure illness only and she either worked in a coal mine or, if I recall correctly, worked in a factory that had graphite. As I recall from my then-performed research, are no currently operating graphite factories in the US.

It could be that she was born without teeth and if that is the case then it had nothing to do with poverty. She may have had dentures. They just didn't find any with the body.

As for her back, the human spine begins a slow process of degeneration once we hit adulthood. Some degenerate more than others but it does not mean that she engaged in backbreaking work.

I find this woman's condition to be truly cause for pity. In poor health, dumpster diving for food, and homeless. Remember she had given birth at least twice so someone out there is missing their mother.

Diane more than likely met with foul play. There is also evidence that she had a fingertip severed which was not noted on the UID. Though they look alike, I'd say it's not her.

I agree. She also had tattoos. She was discussed earlier in this thread.

If you go back a few pages in this thread, you'll see that this Doe was supposed to be exhumed (so they could get DNA from her) but that her body wasn't in the grave they thought it was in. And there are no more exhumations currently planned or allowed. So, if I'm understanding correctly, any possible matches can only be ruled out with fingerprints or dentals. And this Doe had no teeth. Just something to keep in mind when submitting possible matches. I still believe this is Nelda Hardwick, but until the Doe is found and exhumed, we'll never know.

Oops, I was hurrying. Yep, almost certainly not her.

Could she have hypodontia? "hypodontia is the condition at which the patient has missing teeth as a result of the failure of those teeth to develop (also called tooth agenesis)."

I don't know. I assumed that she had lost her teeth or had them pulled but wasn't wearing dentures. According to the Doe Network link:

Dentals: Not available. Edentulous. Dentures not located.

Also of note: she had a C-section or hysterectomy scar.

It sounds like LE aren't doing much to locate the remains.
