It's shocking -- one minute 27-year-old Terrell Rhodes is handcuffed to a table in an interrogation room, and the next, he has a detective's gun in his hands.

Police say during the struggle the suspect said "kill me" and that he wanted to die.

As Rhodes struggles with his handcuffs, detectives rush in and attempt to calm him down.

That's when things took a dangerous turn, and it was all caught on camera.

As detectives fought to make sure Rhodes wasn't able to get a good grip on the gun, he grabbed from one of their holsters. They were able to get the gun out of his hands without anyone getting hurt.

My son told me that there is a very strict rule---NO GUNS allowed ins interrogation rooms. I guess we ca see why...

Father of slain toddler speaks out on what would’ve been his birthday | KLAS
Tuesday would have been the third birthday for Amari Nicholson, a toddler who was allegedly killed earlier this year by his mother’s boyfriend.

Amari’s father said Rhodes deserves the death penalty.

“Yea he should look death in the face like Amari did it’s only fair, it’s only fair that you look death in the face like the child did,” added Hayes.

Rhodes’s trial is expected to begin in 2022.

From the outside, Las Vegas resident Jessica Bower heard about the missing two-year-old and immediately created a local Facebook page dedicated to his disappearance.

“We wanted to believe what the situation appeared to be maybe it was a custody dispute we see it all the time parental kidnappings all the time. But then it didn’t add up and there were red flags and the story started changing and I think everyone was coming together cause we knew something happened and somebody did something,” Bower said.

Her Facebook page garnered thousands of followers.

“I think that Amari was Vegas’s baby he was somebody everybody could relate to in a way whether you have a two-year-old of your own, a grandson, a nephew,” Bower said.

“Amari should be three right now he should be getting ready for preschool he should be enjoying his coco- melon and pizza and his oranges. We shouldn’t have to be out here but we are,” Bower said.

Today marks one year since the body of 2-year-old Amari Nicholson was found after he was reported missing a week earlier.

In front of the Emerald Suites off Paradise and Twain Avenues, a small group of people gathered to remember Amari Nicholson. People brought candles, balloons and stuffed mickey mouse animals.

Rhodes remains in the Clark County Detention Center without bail. His case was set to go to trial on May 9, 2022, but a judge ruled on May 3 that a status check will be conducted in 90 days on Aug. 2 at 9:30 a.m. A new trial date could be set at that time.

Such a heartbreaking case.
 

His defense attorney, Robert Langford, said that he needs more time to prepare. The Clark County District Attorney’s Office did not object to the delay. The trial was rescheduled to Sept. 11.
