Police in Canton, Ohio, asked Sylvania Township police last Friday to check on the safety of a woman who lives in the 7400 block of Timbers Edge Boulevard. Township police and the U.S. Marshals Service entered the residence, but did not find the woman.

According to Township police, "subsequent information gathered in the investigation has led this police department to believe that harm has come to the missing female."

Police said the investigation is active and they will not be releasing more information at this time, including the identity of the woman in question. They also said no other member of the community is believed to be at risk.

Sylvania Township Police Department is searching for a missing female who lives in the township and is believed to be in danger.

The woman was identified as Nicole Jones, 53, Deputy Sylvania Township Police Chief Jim Rettig told The Blade's media partner, WTVG-TV 13. Her son, the station reported, was identified as Jonathan Jones, 33, who was wanted earlier in the week in a case in which a 17-year-old Canton, Ohio girl had been reported missing.

Jones was arrested and the teen recovered in Ahumada, Chihuahua, Mexico, the Marshals Service said Monday.
The woman was determined to be missing on May 5 after the Sylvania police and the U.S. Marshals Service entered her home at 7456 Timbers Edge Blvd., but did not find her, township police said Thursday.

“Subsequent information gathered in the investigation has led this police department to believe that harm has come to the missing female,” township police said in a statement Thursday.

Sylvania Township police were asked to check on her wellbeing by the Canton, Ohio Police Department.
The investigation remains active.

“There is no belief that any other member of the community or public is at risk,” Sylvania Township police said.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force of the Marshals had no additional information to report Thursday. Additional information was pending from Sylvania Township police..

SYLVANIA TWP., Ohio (WTVG) - Authorities are looking for a missing Sylvania Township woman they believe to have been harmed in connection to a man accused of kidnapping an Ohio girl and taking her out of the country.

Dep. Chief Rettig with Sylvania Township Police said Nicole Jones, 53, is missing and may have been harmed. Her son, Jonathan Robert Jones, 33, was arrested in Mexico for the alleged kidnapping of a 17-year-old girl from Canton, Ohio. Police say the cases are connected.

Authorities were searching for Jonathan Robert Jones and the missing Canton teenager last week, issuing a call for information on their whereabouts on Saturday. On Monday, U.S. Marshals said the suspect and the girl were found in Mexico.

13abc crews saw Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents at the Jones’ home in the 7400 block of Timbers Edge Boulevard on Wednesday. Thursday morning Sylvania Township Police said the Canton Ohio Police Department asked the agency to check on the safety of a woman who lived there on May 5, the same day authorities had previously listed the last sighting of Jonathan Robert Jones and the teen in the United States before they turned up in Mexico. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona said at the time the two were seen in a Buick Encore registered to Jones’ mother, Nicole Jones.

When U.S. Marshals requested the public’s help finding the suspect and the teen last Saturday, the press release said Jones was wanted by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office for pandering obscene material and child endangerment.

The timeline of these two cases is more than I can make sense of at this time of night. Mother, son, underage teen, two countries, two or three missing people originally. Two found and one missing now. It seems likely the cases are involved, which may be why the police want to find the mother.

USMS said Monday authorities arrested Jonathan Jones, 33, and found the missing 17-year-old from Canton in Ahumada, Chihuahua, Mexico. The agency did not disclose additional information about the teen’s condition, why the suspect fled to Mexico or other details about the case.

Jones is the mother of 33-year-old Jonathan Jones of Toledo. He was taken into custody Monday in Mexico after a manhunt that stretched two countries. He was with a 17-year-old from Canton who had been reported missing since April 18. Authorities have not said how Jonathan Jones and the girl knew each other.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office in Arizona confirmed Jones and the girl were seen there in a 2021 Buick owned by Nicole Jones on May 5 during the manhunt.

Jonathan Jones pleaded guilty in March to pandering obscene material and child endangerment. The conviction stemmed from a 2022 case in Wood County.

He was expected to be sentenced in the case last week but missed the May 4 appearance.

According to Sylvania Township Police Department, Nicole Jones is the victim of a homicide and investigators are working to obtain an arrest warrant for an unnamed person in connection to her death. Police said they expect additional charges will be filed against other suspects in the future. Police agencies searched Jones’ home in the 7400 block of Timbers Edge Boulevard for her earlier this week but did not find the missing woman.

The statement Sylvania Twp. police released Friday said information they gathered since the search led investigators to believe Jones was killed but did not say where they believe her body is.

Police told 13abc Thursday that Nicole Jones’ disappearance was connected to her son’s kidnapping case but did not say how. They did not identify Jonathan Robert Jones as a suspect in his mother’s death in Friday’s statement.

Wow, this is so tragic, Nicole Jones, age 53, was likely killed by her 33 year old son.

Just off King Road, between Central Avenue and Bancroft Street, is the Sylvania Timbers Edge Condominium Association -- where Nicole Jones lived. 96-year-old Ann McDede has lived here since 2000 when the condos were built. She said she loves her community.
"Everybody is so friendly and nice here," McDede said.

Jones' home is one of the first homes drivers see when entering the community. Neighbors believed she had lived at the edge of the neighborhood for about four years. They described her as private since none could recall ever seeing her at community gatherings or at the clubhouse for anything.

"It's very sad, it's upsetting," McDede said, referring to Jonathan's arrest. "I'm just glad the young girl is okay."

The uncertainty of a neighbor's fate can understandably rattle a community, but eight-year resident Kathleen Nightingale doesn't believe any of the nearly 60 residents plan on packing up and moving away in response.

"Either their adult children knew somebody who said that this is a safe place or they themselves knew somebody," Nightingale said of why people choose to live at Timbers Edge.

So they have arrested a juvenile for the murder of Nicole Jones and are looking for additional suspects. The son has not been mentioned as involved in the murder, at least at this stage.

I hope they are able to locate her body soon and that she gets the burial and respect she deserves.

The juvenile is named in this link. If you search facebook, you'll find a page for her. Very interesting post dated 5/9

Not sure about all this ...

The MSM reports are saying that the name of the suspect who was arrested for the murder of Nicole Jones has not been released, due to it being a juvenile. Are you thinking that it could be the 17 year-old who ran away with Nicole Jones' son and was apprehended when she was found with the son in Mexico? Wow, I had not even considered that.

But then I went to the Facebook page that you mention, and there is a post about enjoying being in one's own home, etc. Were they together in Nicole Jones' home after foul play toward NJ?

So other suspects are being looked for, so this could be quite a plot. What role does the son play - maybe they can get the arrested juvenile to talk, or the other suspects when they are arrested.

Where is Nicole? One of them knows.

Wow! Well, I’m gonna assume she got a ride home.

This article makes it sound like the juvenile who was arrested for Nicole Jones' murder was also found in Mexico along with the missing Ohio girl. Maybe I am not reading it correctly.

The article heading says -

Police: Canton juvenile charged with murder of mother arrested in Mexico with missing Ohio girl
