SC - Mallory Beach, 19, found deceased after boat crash, Beaufort Co, 24 Feb 2019 *Alex Murdaugh charged*

That civil suit alleges that Parker’s teamed with attorneys and documentarian Vicky Ward to launch “a social media campaign to inflict severe emotional distress upon the Plaintiffs to diminish their resolve to prosecute Parker’s for contributing to causing the death of Mallory Beach in the Civil Action and arranged for or participated in the distribution of the confidential mediation and other private materials.”
I don't remember the details about the lengths Parker went to torment the Beach family but was it Vicky Ward or the female PI who initially confirmed some of the allegations about Parker but suddenly changed her tune at the deposition?

Yes and there were leaked photos of Mallory's remains after being in the water for almost a week.

Parkers was always going to lose, they were just too high and mighty to accept the fact. Sympathy for the Beach family is strong, stronger than this multi, multi millionaire and his crass ways of doing things.

Gotta hand it to Mark Tinsley, he's a tiger for sure. He never backed down despite numerous obstacles. I know I wouldn't want him against me in court. He could retire from his payday on this case, but I don't see that happening.

ALL MOO

Defendants almost always lose in Hampton County. Without a change of venue, Parker's only real chance was to fight to reduce the payout amount on appeal. I'm sure a jury would have awarded many millions to "punish" Alex Murdaugh.

I wish we had access to the settlement with the bar in Beaufort. If anyone besides Paul Murdaugh was responsible for Mallory Beach's death, it would be the bar that sold alcohol to a visibly intoxicated minor. I suspect the bar owner doesn't have great wealth and settled for his insurance limit. It is easy to focus on the Murdaugh's, but the actions at the bar contributed greatly to the accident.

Maybe, but they had been steadily drinking all night.

I think all parties were responsible in some way: BM for giving PM his ID, Parkers for selling the alcohol to PM, AM (and other adults frankly) for allowing PM to drive that boat home intoxicated and in severe fog late at night, and the restaurant for serving another shot or was is 2?

A tragedy of errors that claimed the life of a wonderful, young woman way too soon. The money doesn't bring Mallory back, but maybe it will prevent some others from repeating this behavior. IDK

MOO

IMO, both the family of Mallory Beach and the local community were hit with a triple edge sword in this tragedy.

On one hand, you had teens doing what teens do and that includes underage drinking but instead of uniting to support the survivors and grieve the loss of a lovely young woman, Mallory Beach, first came the mighty Murdaugh machine that was willing to go to whatever length necessary to protect Paul from liability and being held accountable for his actions, including fixing the blame for the crash on a boat passenger, and impede the investigation.

Next, throwing gas on the fire, was the owner of the convenience store chain (Greg Parker) with 71 locations, and annual sales exceeding a BILLION dollars! Yes, a $billion$ with a 'B!'

The idea that the owner of 71 stores was somehow unaware of its responsibility to implement Policies/Procedures, and adequately train its employees, on how to Prevent Underage Purchases of alcohol, is complete rubbish! To be clear, in the state of South Carolina -- it's the Law!

“These settlements won’t bring Mallory back, but we hope they do save someone else’s son or daughter.” ~Attorney for #MalloryBeach family Mark Tinsley

Attorney Tinsley’s Full Statement

* "-The settlements today demonstrate, to use Parker's word, an "exoneration" of the young people in the boat that Parker so readily blames. Underage drinking is a serious and costly problem. Blaming the kids won't solve the problem. The people who enable underage drinking must be stopped. It's shameful that nearly 2 people per week die in this state alone as a result of underage drinking. The Beach family believes this settlement will serve as a warning to all the Parker's of the world, who might make an illegal sale of alcohol to a minor, that they will be held to account for their wrongful conduct if they do. These settlements won't bring Mallory back, but we hope they do save someone
else's son or daughter."

I like the fact that Tinsley used Parker’s own words to counter with.
I read people in another forum talking about the settlement defending Parker to the hilt. Their argument was that Paul presented a valid ID so what else was Parker’s supposed to do. Perhaps ask for another form of ID?
And Paul “looked just like his brother”, so what are you supposed to do? Well, for one, Paul did not look like his brother except for the red hair and was considerably shorter than BM. Maybe pay attention to what you’re looking at.
What Parker fails to realize in his money-blinded brain is that his business has a roll to play in preventing underage drinking. It is sanctioned by SC that he should play that roll for the good of society and our children. His business failed that night.
Certainly there are others responsible in different ways for this tragedy. A lot of adults looked the other way. The young people made poor decisions. But all of that does not change the fact that Parker’s failed in what they were charged to do and are as responsible as the rest.
I hope he has to pay 10x the $15 million for the extra and unnecessary pain he went out of his way to inflict on the Beach family and others.

Support for Greg Parker by claiming the store owner had no liability because Paul presented a valid ID for the alcohol purchase is poppycock!

First, it was not a valid ID because the only valid ID was in Buster Murdaugh's pocket-- and not the fraudulent duplicate ID in Paul's pocket!

Generally, before Buster would have received a replacement ID, he would have reported his lost/stolen ID to the police and taken the police report to DMV when requesting the replacement card. In a perfect world, the canceled ID in Paul's possession should have come up as invalid on any retailer's digital scanner, similar to a canceled bank card.

Second, Paul was a 19 yr old kid that also looked his age or younger in 2019 when he entered Parker's kitchen to purchase alcohol.

A properly trained employee of Parker's Kitchen, pursuant to the suggested Palmetto Retailers Education Program, would have been trained to be suspicious of the kid at the counter attempting to purchase a large quantity of alcohol-- while using his mother's bank card!

We've all seen the video of Paul walking out of the store to his vehicle where even Paul seemed surprised he got away with the purchase (as he raised the cases of beer in his arms to show the underage friends).

Following South Carolina's Retailer's Education Program, a trained employee would have also known how to REFUSE to sell to Paul when he approached the counter.

Just by following the law, Paul's fake identification could have easily been recorded in the Store's incident log shared with LE where every store in the county could have been aware of the underage Murdaugh kid with a history of trying to buy alcohol.

Possession of fake IDs is a form of identity theft, considered a criminal offense in the US. The South Carolina law prohibits juveniles from falsely representing their age to facilitate underage drinking. You can risk a fine or be sentenced to 30 days in a county jail for a first offense or up to six months for a subsequent offense.

How sad that Parker can't admit to his lost opportunity to possibly save Mallory's life had he taken action to report Paul to LE, confiscate both his fake ID obtained from Buster, as well as his mother's bank card, and also blacklist him from any alcohol purchases at all of his 71 stores while under 21.

If Parker didn't ever want to be on the hook for Murdaugh or any other person's negligence, the State gave the retailer the tools necessary to protect both himself and his business. MOO

Parker was named both personally and Corporately in the wrongful death suit (Parker's Corporation, Parker's Kitchen, and Greg Parker).

IMO, Greg Parker and his attorney, PK Shere, are just two sore losers making noise, parsing words since the settlement by Insurance for Parker's Kitchen does not require they admit any responsibility in the case.

And Shere's not much better than his client (or Alex): Earlier today I essentially heard Shere also say that selling alcohol to a minor that was using a fraudulent ID was a legal and valid sale!

This is the best they could come up with not to be accountable for their negligence and blame the entire suit as punishment intended for Alex Murdaugh!

A lawyer for the stores said owner Greg Parker felt like he had no choice but to settle because Alex Murdaugh and the chain would be tried together in the wrongful death suit.

Under South Carolina law, even if the jury found Parker's Kitchen was only 1% responsible, since Murdaugh is now nearly broke, the chain with its deeper pockets would likely have to pay nearly the entire settlement.

On Friday, a judge refused to separate Parker's Kitchen from Murdaugh and declined to move the case out of Hampton County.

After a circuit court judge denied motions to change venue and sever defendants Alex Murdaugh and Gregory M. Parker/Parker's Corporation, a mediation meeting was held at 10 a.m. Sunday at the law offices of mediating attorneys Clawson and Staubes, LLC, in Charleston.

[..]

Attorneys for Parker's say they are 'disappointed' in disclosures

Gregory M. Parker and his Parker's Corporation were named as co-defendants in these lawsuits, and were accused of illegally selling alcohol to Paul Murdaugh and the underaged boaters.

After the mediation, which took most of the day, PK Shere, attorney for the Parker's defendants, issued a statement around 10 p.m. Sunday through a spokesperson.

“It is disappointing that the contents of settlement discussions have been disclosed today counter to the mediation agreement that was signed by all who participated.

"Recently, the court ruled that Parker’s would be tethered to Alex Murdaugh at the upcoming trial. The fact remains that Tajeeha Cohen made a legal and valid sale, as was determined by SLED. This case was never about that legal and valid sale nor was it about the repeated bad decisions that these young adults made that night. For Mark Tinsley, it was all about using the Murdaughs’ bad actions and the unfair law of joint and several liability in South Carolina to make Parker’s pay for a verdict intended to punish the Murdaughs. Given the outsized publicity this case has received, being tethered to a convicted murderer all but ensured Parker’s would not receive a fair trial.

[..]

A spokesperson for Parker's added that they were disappointed due to the fact that details of the settlements were disclosed early Sunday afternoon, despite the fact that as of 9 p.m. not all parties had signed off on the agreement.

According to the statement, Parker's insurance carriers paid the settlements. Gregory M. Parker personally has not paid anything to resolve these cases, nor has he admitted fault in the matter.

Tinsley said the Beach family purposefully wanted the details of the settlement to be made public. The Allendale attorney issued a statement Sunday night, then issued a follow-up statement on Monday:

“The settlements with the gas station demonstrate, to use Parker’s word, an 'exoneration' of the young people in the boat that Parker so readily blames. Underage drinking is a serious and costly problem. Blaming the kids won’t solve the problem. The people who enable underage drinking must be stopped. These settlements won’t bring Mallory back, but we hope they do save someone else’s son or daughter. "

"The sun is much brighter in Hampton County for several people this morning."
Joseph M. McCulloch Jr., attorney for Connor Cook

Attorney for Connor Cook confirms $1 million settlement, responds

Attorney Joseph M. McCulloch Jr., who represents surviving boater Connor Cook, confirmed that his client's share of the $18 million was $1 million.

"Seeing this case settled was a tremendous relief for Connor and his family, and a tremendous relief for Miley Altman and her family," said McCulloch. "Connor and Miley, who were dating at the time of the boat crash, are now the proud parents of a two-month-old child. They are so pleased to have this burden relieved, and now having this nest egg is a wonderful benefit to both of them. The sun is much brighter in Hampton County for several people this morning."

After the mediation, which took most of the day, PK Shere, attorney for the Parker's defendants, issued a statement around 10 p.m. Sunday through a spokesperson.

OK, after reading so many late comments attributed to PK Shere, contrary to the settlement, reached on Sunday, it made more sense after hearing Mark Tinsley's interview with Court TV where he stated that PK Shere was not a party to the settlement negotiations, and was not present during the mediation on Sunday.

See video link below of Paul at Parker's Kitchen Convenience/Gas Stop where the store clerk appears to be running the 12 gas pumps and waiting on retail customers where PM picks up about 2+ cases of cans/bottles of beer-- as many as Paul could physically carry, and hands the clerk Buster's duplicate ID who appears to wave the license in front of a digital reader and return it back to PM -- a transaction lasting no longer than 5-8 seconds. PM was 19 at the time, clearly underage, and except for his hair color, did not match the age and/or physical description on the ID given to the store clerk.

Mr. Tinsley said in court filings that Mr. Parker’s company shares responsibility for the crash because the clerk made an obvious mistake when checking the ID Paul Murdaugh handed her when buying the alcohol. The clerk should have noticed that Paul’s slight build didn’t match up with the height and weight listed on his big brother’s ID, said Mr. Tinsley.

“When you stress the speed of the transaction such that the people don’t even read the information on the ID, it’s apparent what’s going to happen,” Mr. Tinsley said. He said Mr. Parker knows that state law and store policy on alcohol sales aren’t rigorously followed at Parker’s Kitchen stores, a claim Mr. Parker denies.
