Sydney stabbing rampage at Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley - 15 April 2024

<modsnip - quoted post was political, no links>

It might be important to note that during COVID restrictions, this bishop was very outspoken against the restrictions. And that protests and confrontations happened with police because of those restrictions, by people who didn't agree with lockdowns and vaccinations, and happened in Liverpool.

So, people who follow this bishop are probably more likely to <modsnip - quoted post was removed> b) have a problem with police telling them what to do.

Police have made the first arrest related to the crowd violence.

The bishop is out of hospital.

The boy has been charged with a terrorism offence.

I think I mistook the article that I posted the other day, when I said the bishop was out of hospital. The bishop is still hospitalised, the person who was released from hospital was another priest who was injured in the attack. I was unaware at the time that more than one clergy member was injured, and conflated the two. My apologies for the inaccuracy.

The action commissioner was asked if it was true that the boy had his finger cut of as an act of revenge.
He said he has severe hand injuries.

Boy is said to be distraught and asked to speak with his parents.
I keep thinking about this line that he was or is distraught

Inability to imagine consequences? Because of his age?

Belief that Allah was going to protect him and realisation that he didn't?

Death wish unfulfilled?

When it is 15 yr olds that we see in these situations, I feel kind of sorry for them because it is so easy for terrorist organisations to grab these young outcasts and groom them. They look for loners who don't fit in and they pretend to be their 'new family' in order to mess with their minds, and then they militarise them, and teach them hatred and vengeance.

It's very sad. Maybe teenagers and children should not be using the internet unsupervised

"Teenager accused of Sydney church stabbing

has history of behaviour consistent with

mental illness - court hears.

A teenage boy facing a possible life term in prison for terrorism over the stabbing of a bishop
has shown behaviour consistent with mental illness or intellectual disability,
his lawyer has said.

Investigators
from a joint counter-terrorism team,
incorporating state and federal police and Asio staff,
interviewed the boy in his hospital bed on Thursday
before charging him with committing a terrorist act.

The commonwealth offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

There was a brief mention of the case in court on Friday,
when the teenager was refused bail.

A brief of evidence is due to be served when the matter returns to court on 14 June.

The 16-year-old’s lawyer,
Greg Scragg,
said he may seek an earlier date,
having been instructed the boy had a long history of behaviour consistent with a mental illness or intellectual disability.

'We may seek to bring this matter back earlier
if a question arises in relation to his treatment or assessment
for those conditions whilst he’s in custody',
he told Parramatta children’s court.

The magistrate
made a recommendation for the boy to be assessed by Justice Health while in custody."

The lawyer is making it sound like his parents have not had him assessed for whatever problem he has.

"Emotional parishioners

Parishioners attend the first service at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley after Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel and Father Isaac Royel were stabbed last week.

Sunday's sermon promoted peace,
with parishioners saying they were very emotional.

People fainted and others were crying during the first service at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Sydney's south-west since a knife attack on Monday, parishioners say.

'We miss our bishop,
we miss our Father Isaac,
but this makes us more determined to pray,
and to pray for everybody'."

''The seven, aged 15 to 17, were part of a network that included a 16-year-old boy accused of stabbing a bishop in a Sydney church on April 15, police said.

Clips of the stabbing were taken from the church service’s livestream and subsequently made the rounds on X. An Australian regulator last week ordered the platform to take down the videos, an action the platform is fighting.''
More than 400 police officers executed 13 search warrants at properties across southwest Sydney because the suspects were considered an immediate threat, New South Wales Police Deputy Commissioner David Hudson said.

“We will allege that these individuals adhered to a religiously motivated, violent extremist ideology,” Hudson told reporters.

“It was considered that the group ... posed an unacceptable risk and threat to the people of New South Wales, and our current purely investigative strategies could not adequately ensure public safety,” Hudson adde

This is extremely disturbing.

Is this an online only network?

Is there someone in charge of this network?

"Accused 'youth terror cell'

rounded up in sweeping raids allegedly found with mobile phones

containing bomb-making videos and ISIS beheading clips.

- Five Sydney teenagers have been charged with terror offences

-They appeared in Parramatta Children's Court on Thursday

-Two allegedly had extremist material on their phones

A 14-year-old boy and
a 17-year-old boy
charged in connection with a church attack allegedly had
'reprehensible' extremist videos on their phones, including instructions on how to make a bomb."

I'm sickened by the violence taken against the police and the ambulance service. There is no excusable reason for this. I cannot comprehend why the church congregation took such action.
Post the source showing it was the congregation that attacked the police and medics.

There is no information revealing that the police and ambulance crews were attacked by the TINY congregation likely filled with elderly people. The news sources said THOUSANDS showed up to riot.

You can clearly see on videos that this is a very small congregation.

Influential former IS supporter Wassim Fayad drawn into probe of alleged Sydney teen terror network
Fayad spent seven years in jail until 2020 after being convicted of a failed ATM ram raid, the whipping of a Muslim convert and being an accessory to an attempted shooting murder at a gay sex club.

While in jail, police alleged Fayad was a member of an Islamic State terrorism cell that was plotting attacks in Sydney.

Once released, the Supreme Court placed him on a two-year extended supervision order in 2021, finding he was a high risk of recruiting younger or vulnerable people to commit a terrorism offence.

But a judge last year refused to extend that order, ruling the state of NSW had not proved he posed "an unacceptable risk of committing a serious terrorism offence if not kept under supervision".

re-post.
Rafqa Touma 15 Apr 2024
''Hundreds of people clashed with police in western Sydney on Monday night after a prominent Orthodox Christian leader was allegedly stabbed at the altar of his church.

''The New South Wales premier, Chris Minns, called for calm after the alleged attack took place while Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was saying mass at the Assyrian Christ the Good Shepherd church in Wakeley just after 7pm.''
''Holland said police were “in the process of taking the teenager from the church” when they realised that a large group had gathered outside and decided to keep the suspect in the church “for his safety”.
Two police officers were taken to hospital after being injured by members of the crowd who broke into “a number of houses to gain weapons to throw at the police”.
