Bumping.

Bumping this thread to encourage using it to explore the pic of the bag from LE's camera 7/16. I believe the pic was taken before LE retrieved the bag out of the dumpster @ Johnson's Tow Yard ~9:50PM after a few hours earlier Simon surmised that it was the source of the odor emanating from the Pontiac trunk when he & George opened it @ the towyard and Simon tossed it out. This is the bag that is detailed in the forensics report as having the following items (thanks to JWG for the list :thumb:)

Seeing thoughts discussed on what caused the reddish stain on one side of the bag in the Photobucket, shovel & backyard threads.

My :twocents:, I agree w/ MsInformed that the stain resulted from the bag contacting the reddish sludge (maybe rust, pizza sauce, etc.) that appears to me to be present in the bottom of the dumpster.

Discuss....:)

Bumping another one.

I'm bumping up this thread because of all the misconceptions about the trash.

Most importantly, there was no pizza in the trashbag. Just pieces of a pizza box. The stinky pizza was a rumor given to reporters by Cindy.

Here are the E-mails between the Body Farm & OSCO confirming that no pizza was found in the trashbag:

Doc,

I check the trash that was in the vehicle there was no meat products in the trash. There were pieces of a pizza box and other food containers. I will be emailing you a picture of the items first thing tomorrow.

Mike, not sure how I got that there was a pizza in the trunk – sorry about that one, but can you send me an itemized list of stuff that was in the trunk at the time the car was searched? Also, were the maggots on the pizza box?? Arpad

The pizza story came from the mother, who told reporters the smell was from pizza in the trunk. A local news station left a half of pizza in a trunk for seven days, there results were no smell, no maggots, just dried out pizza. I will send you the list along with the pictures.

Here are pictures of the trash, http://www.wftv.com/pdf/20321119/detail.html No ham and cheese. No meat products what-so-ever.. Even the velveeta has been wiped from the foil. There's nothing there to attract fllies and maggots or to bubble and brew into whatever spilled out all over KC's car trunk...

It seems like the defense is pinning a lot on alternate theories about the smell and maggots in the car. Let's try to settle this once and for all.

From what I remember, the trash contained an EMPTY pizza box and, essentially, a bunch of wrappers and EMPTY drink containers, etc. Am I missing something here?

If the defense says the odor and the flies come from the trash, then what the heck was in the trash????

Unfortunately, I am a scatter-brain when it comes to finding information on this forum, but I know I saw some sort of a trash inventory at one point.

Does anyone know how to find out about the contents of the trash?

And, IMO, if the contents do not show something organic, like fruit or rotten meat, then HOW is the DT going to run with their assertions? Surely, the state will give a run-down of the list of items to counter the DT's theory, right?

In which case, none of these hearings related to the smell in the trunk could possibly have any value whatsoever. Right? Why can't the state bring that information up now to end this nonsense?

Or, WAS there something in the trash that might possibly cause an odor? I simply do not know.

Any ideas?

I remember that at one time one of the detectives who retrieved the bag from the dumpster where the guy at the impound yard had thrown it, said there was nothing in the trash bag except for an empty pizza box, empty cans and containers, napkins, etc. There was nothing that would have caused any odor........no food stuff. I remember there was a list, but can't remember all that was on the list.

I'm sure the defense will have a difficult time trying to convince anyone that the items in that trash bag caused the odor.

I think right now during the Frye hearings the only issue to be argued is whether these certain scientific methods and conclusions are considered generally accepted in the scientific community. That's what is supposed to be the purpose of a Frye hearing anyway. Maybe the state is figuring now isn't the time to litigate the issue as to the garbage - they just want their experts and the reports IN!

When the list of trash is revealed to a jury, oh my - with their common knowledge of how garbage smells, I don't think are going to buy that KC's trash could have been mistaken for a decomposing body and the State knows it. They want to get the scientific evidence in and then watch Jose's epic fail with the jury when the weight of his pathetic argument against scientific evidence, testimony about the smell's consistency with a dead body and their own personal experiences in what trash smell like - seal KC's death sentence.

By the time of the trial it will be nearly three years since Caylee's death. I imagine the car is locked up somewhere in the police impound yard as evidence. I wonder if there's still an odor in that car?

I've read that it's just about impossible to get rid of the odor of a decomposing human body from a confined place. If there's still a lingering odor, I wonder if the state will plan a field trip to the police impound yard for members of the jury. If the car still has an odor of decomposition, I doubt any member of the jury will buy the defense story that the odor came from a trash bag of empty containers.

In post 1081 of this thread AZ gives the following reason for jurors NOT experiencing the smell of the Pontiac:

"I doubt it, because the jurors probably will have no expertise in the smell of decomp. So what information would they gain by smelling the car?

OTOH, if I were the SA and if the car really DOES still smell--and not just a little bit--then I might argue that the jurors have common knowledge re: the smell of the type of kitchen trash that was in the trunk and ought to be allowed to smell the car in order to confirm for themselves that it smells nothing like kitchen trash.

IIRC the State retained a piece of the trunk carpet in a can--maybe the jurors will be allowed to open and smell the can for that purpose."

I would like to have Dr. G., the medical examiner that did the autopsy on Caylee's remains testify whether or not the odor is of decomp AND the cadaver dog Eros participate in an exhibit to seek out the decomp odor on the piece of carpet in question in front of the jury. That would put the accuracy of the odor AND the cadaver dog to rest.

I don't know that Dr. Garavaglia the ME would have encountered the smell of decomp... but I would love to have CSI Michael Vincent testify.... and as to whether Gerus could be put through his paces in the courtroom--does anyone know if this sort of testimony has ever been allowed? I tend to think this would lead to more questions than it would answer. Either a juror will accept the canine evidence, or they won't.

This is it? Where is the sopping wet, decaying, mucous and spit making the smell "like decomp"? I find it offensive to listen to the DT's and that shameful Dr. Lee's description of the trash. It insults people's intelligence. :maddening:
...and Dr. Lee gave his report smiling all the way. "Insulting" is a good word.

Someone posted on one of the threads (cannot remember which one???) a link to a really up close and clear photo of the two white trash bags that were in Casey's trunk (Exhibit 6 in Cindy's depo), and they said it "was the best photo of these bags that they had come across yet, and asked if we could see possible photos of Caylee in the corner of the bag." Does anyone have that link to that photo??? Or know which thread this was posted on, and what page of the thread?
It was NOT this Fox photo (it was a different photo with no media logo on it)

Could it have been this one?

If they wanted to redo the sniffer test with the dogs it would be easy line up 5 cars including KC's, bring out the dogs, one-by-one and video tape it to see if the dogs alert on the car. This time do it with different dogs. Move the cars around after each dog is finished.

Defense brought it up so redo the car exactly the way defense would like it done. That car will still have an odor the dogs will pick up on. Not sure they could use it in court. jmo

Dr. Garavaglia, the ME has encountered the smell of decomp on numerous occasions. I feel pretty darn certain on that. IMO she would be an expert. As to whether Gerus could be put through his paces in the courtroom is prolly a bad idea on my part but I think you can see where I was going with that thought process regarding verification of the odor of decomp.

I don't see the dogs being brought into the court. It just isn't necessary. The SA will prove his training was well-documented and his handler is also experienced. I don't see this as an issue at all, despite the DT trying to make it one.

I hope you're right. I really do.

I want to ask a question. They found paper towels IN the trash bags with the "gravewax" on them, correct?

http://www.wesh.com/r/21714207/detail.html

yes

"Dr. Arpad Vass found a substance called "adipocere," which is commonly referred to as "grave wax" on paper towels recovered from a trash bag inside Anthony's car trunk. That dark, flaky substance he said comes from decomposing fatty tissues in humans and pigs."

Thank you Capri. I couldn't find anywhere that it stated the paper towels were IN the trash bags. For me, that's the straw that breaks the camel's back. No acquittal, for sure.

Just thought of another question. Any chance they have any "touch DNA" from whoever used those paper towels?

Last week on Nancy Grace, Dr. Lee said there was half eaten pizza in the bag.

"Admissions packet Lake-Sumter Community College, School of Cosmetology" So I wonder if it was Tony or Casey planning a new career?

Or a girlfriend of one of Tony's roomies,
IMO it was not Casey..she was telling everyone she was a student at Valencia and was going to enroll at UCF in the Event Planner program.

And, if he is, I am wondering why and how all of this 'smell comes from trash' cr%p is allowed to continue in a court of law??

If he is saying there was some kind of biological product in the trash (like rotting food), and there wasn't, how can the state allow the DT to carry on like they have been???

Can't the state just put a stop to it by stating the documented fact that there was nothing in the trash to rot???

Or, does the state NOT know these simple facts that are outlined in this thread?

If the latter is the case, then I am scared.

Funny, no one brings up that most homes and apartments here have in sink garbage disposal...I checked Sutton Place apartments...they do have in sink garbage disposal..

IMO what food waste was left, and if it could, it would have gone down the drain.
