''More than 25 years after the killing of Tupac Shakur became a defining tragedy in hip-hop, a self-described gang member who has repeatedly proclaimed that he participated in the drive-by shooting was indicted on a murder charge, Las Vegas prosecutors said on Friday, reviving a blockbuster investigation that had long stalled.
The man, Duane Keith Davis, has said in interviews and a memoir that he was in the front passenger seat of the white Cadillac that pulled up near the vehicle holding Mr. Shakur after a 1996 prizefight between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon in Las Vegas.
The 25-year-old rapper was shot four times and died in a hospital less than a week later.
A grand jury in Clark County indicted Mr. Davis on one count of murder with use of a deadly weapon, plus a gang enhancement, a prosecutor said in court on Friday. Mr. Davis, whose arrest was earlier reported by The Associated Press, is in custody without bail.

Despite plentiful speculation, evidence and reporting across nearly three decades, no charges had ever been filed in the shooting of Mr. Shakur, who was one of the most popular artists of the 1990s, with tracks that brought poetic gravitas to confrontational gangster rap. But talk of the case was revived in July, when the Las Vegas police executed a search warrant at a home in Henderson, Nev., connected to Mr. Davis.''

So, they’re saying that Keffe D orchestrated the murder, but delegated the dirty work of pulling the trigger to his nephew, who is now deceased, and who will never face Nevada’s justice system.

I’m glad Nevada’s dedicated to getting some justice in this case, and prepared to prosecute to the fullest extent of Nevada law on murder.

That’s very interesting that Davis was questioned in the murder of Biggie Smalls, too. Thanks for sharing. I just got around to watching it.

Authorities accuse Duane “Keefe D” Davis of ordering his nephew to kill Shakur in 1996. Davis faces a charge of murder with use of a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang. Davis is a member of the South Side Compton Crips, based in Compton, California.

“Duane Davis was the shot-caller for this group of individuals that committed this crime and he orchestrated the plan that was carried out to commit this crime,” Jason Johansson, homicide lieutenant with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, said during a Sept. 29 press conference.

LVMPD executed a search warrant at Davis’s Las Vegas home on July 17. He lives there with his wife, Paula Clemons.

On September 7, 1996, Davis was with Terrence Brown, Deandre Smith, and his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, in Las Vegas. Shakur and record producer Marion “Suge” Knight, who were affiliated with a rival gang, were also in Vegas. The groups encountered one another at the MGM Grand casino following the Mike Tyson fight and there was a brawl.

Shakur and Knight left the casino with their entourage. They were in a BMW, driven by Knight, waiting at a red light near the strip when a white Cadillac pulled up next to them and someone inside opened fire. Shakur was shot multiple times and
died a week later.

Tupac during an interview in 1991.
It is a moment Tupac's family feared they would never see. His brother, Mopreme Shakur, told Sky News: "I was shocked, surprised, and taken aback because it's been so long.

"We haven't heard anything in 27 years. My daughter is 27 years old, so any accountability is good at this point."

The other 3 people that were in the car with #DuaneDavis, including the alleged shooter of #TupacShakur, have since passed away. Davis is the last man standing. Authorities call Davis the shot caller, orchestrating the killing of Tupac.

Duane "Keffe D" Davis in court today. In 2008, Davis confessed to being involved in the murder of #TupacShakur by being in the shooting car, but he did so on another case and was granted immunity for his confession. 15 years later he's been arrested. Authorities can't use what he said in 2008, but can use any evidence they've obtained separate from that and Davis has spoken out several times since then about his involvement.

I’ve been a 2Pac fan ever since his Digital Underground days. I thought he was irresistibly cute, then.

I remember how excited I was when I took my babysitting money to WalMart and bought the ‘Strictly 4 My N…..Z’ cassette. Soon I knew every word to every track. To this day I still know Papa’z Song, Something 2 Die 4, and Keep Ya Head Up~ by heart. That was my favorite of his albums under the name 2Pac. Later, I bought his Makaveli album, too.

Even though I (thankfully) couldn’t relate to many of the topics that his rap was about, I appreciated the way he delivered the message, loved the sound of his voice, and the music arrangement.

I thought he was a pretty good actor, too. The movies that come to mind are Juice and Above the Rim. In both he played antagonistic roles. He pulled it off well, I know, because even being intensely enamored with him, he was believable enough as a villain that I’d be left rethinking my admiration of him.

I never thought I’d be telling WS all about my love for Tupac, but there it is. I just felt the urge to share why I’m following this thread about this human being, who meant so much to me way back when.

I’m glad answers are finally coming to light, and that the WS thread has a new title.

A recent arrest in the investigation of rap icon Tupac Shakur's death signals a major breakthrough in the long-unsolved killing.

Imo, Music is the universal language of love. Lennon, Gaye, Biggie, & Tupac, all gone way too soon, all talented and gifted the world with love and surely missed. Senseless killings.

Opinion:Why arrest in Tupac Shakur's murder means so much to so many

Updated 10.1.2023

You take notice when voices of a generation leave the world — particularly if those voices are stolen.

For many of the generation that preceded my own, two of those voices belonged to R&B legend Marvin Gayeand rock musician and peace activist John Lennon.

It's been nearly 30 years and new developments are finally coming out about Tupac Shakur's death... Duane "Keffe D" Davis made his first court appearance after blabbing about his role in the drive-by shooting and he's being charged with murder! Tupac's first manager joins Dan.

Davis had reached a deal with federal investigators in Los Angeles to speak openly about a number of topics in 2009, including his knowledge of Shakur's killing.

While the exact terms of the agreement are unclear, prosecutors presumably wouldn't be able to use those statements against him. But that doesn’t mean Davis’ statements couldn’t be used as an investigative tool — and that his own chattiness in the years since he got a semi-free pass couldn’t come back to hurt him.

The lack of clarity could lead to a courtroom fight, experts said.

Can the California agreement apply to the Nevada prosecution?

“If there’s an agreement, there’s some expectation that another jurisdiction would give full faith and credit to what this jurisdiction has done,” said Veronica Galván, a judge in Washington state who has taught at the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada.

“But I would also presume that that’s done with the knowledge of that other jurisdiction, that it was communicated with that other jurisdiction, ‘Hey, we’re getting these statements, this is what we intend to do, are you cool with that?’ And the feds normally do not make a proffer without bringing in the state” where another crime might have been committed, Galván said.

On Wednesday, Mr. Davis made his first appearance in Clark County District Court for a scheduled arraignment, which the judge postponed because Mr. Davis did not have a lawyer present, saying that his longtime California-based lawyer, Edi Faal, could not be there. In a brief phone interview, Mr. Faal said Mr. Davis, 60, intended to plead not guilty; he declined to discuss specifics about the case, saying he was in the process of getting Mr. Davis a Nevada lawyer.

“Like in all cases, I think we should allow things to play out in the courtroom,” Mr. Faal said.

Oh, what a wonderful cute story. I can relate. My two Irish twin boys were in high school and 2Pac was always blasting the house. They were more than upset. Especially, my older son. Anyways, you bring back good memories for me. ❤️ Thanks for my smile.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released bodycam footage of officers arresting Duane “Keefe F” Davis for his alleged involvement in Tupac Shakur’s murder. The rapper was gunned down along the Las Vegas strip in 1996. Investigators believe Davis ordered a hit on Shakur after he got into an altercation with his nephew. Davis can be heard saying “I ain’t worried,” “I’m a pro, dude” and explaining to officers how he was arrested for “the biggest case in Las Vegas history.”
