This story is so bizarre. The child was present in a room full of people who were visiting his home. He was in the same room as his mother yet no one saw anyone take him? And its hard to imagine a young child who has medical problems but has been actively walking since he was 8 months? Hmmmm.....

My heart goes out to his family...I hope he is found by morning...

SAN ANTONIO -- Both the family of an 18 month old New Braunfels boy and law enforcement desperately searched for the missing child. However, their theories on why the toddler is missing is different.

As of Saturday evening, authorities continue to treat this case as a search and rescue effort.

Investigators suspect the child may have wandered from his home after a family friend left Friday night. The family fears an abductor may be behind the child's disappearance.

(New Braunfels, TX) -- For the 3rd straight day, New Braunfels Police and search teams from across the state are continuing the search for an 18-month old missing boy in the area off of Walnut and Klein Road, and now police officials say the search is transitioning from a Search and Rescue operation into a recovery operation.

At a press conference held Sunday morning at police headquarters, police officials also reiterated that they have checked extensively into other options, like abduction, even going so far as to check-in with sex offenders in the immediate area, all with no indication that the boy was abducted. That's why an Amber Alert has not been issued, and although K-9 search teams continue to comb the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods, police officials believe this is simply a case of a very mobile toddler wandering out into the night and getting lost.

The search for a New Braunfels toddler missing since Friday night transitioned from search and rescue to recovery, authorities said early Sunday.

After being missing for more than 36 hours, authorities said that weather conditions and the time that Joshua Davis Jr., 18 months old, has been missing forced them to alter their strategy and downgrade hopes the child could be found safe.

Sunday, police and search coordinators were to use more K-9 dog teams and were to add specialized dogs who work on scent to recover cadavers.

False hope and sadness: Missing 18-month-old toddler remains missing

On Sunday, a mother and father prepare to go to bed with their toddler missing for a third straight night.

It was an emotional day for the parents of Joshua Davis Jr. First, authorities reported that their missing son might be dead. Then rumors surfaced that claimed the boy was found. However, this news ended up being false.

“As a response to that, we did bring in additional K9 search teams particularly ones that were specifically looking at cadaver dogs that search for a deceased person,” New Braunfels Police Lt. Michael Penshorn said.

Later that day, the family rushed to police headquarters after receiving word that someone posted a message on Facebook indicating someone found Davis. The message falsely reported Davis was found alive and doing well in a trailer about 10-miles away from his home on Hunter Road.

Police are trying to track down the person responsible for posting the false Facebook messages. In the mean time the search for baby Joshua continues.

(WOAI) NEW BRAUNFELS - There are new developments as police investigate the disappearance of 18-month-old Joshua Davis Junior who went missing Friday in New Braunfels. Police have removed portions of the base of the parent's mobile home to search for clues. Texas Rangers and cadaver dogs are involved in the search.

The search radius has been expanded to a one mile area which includes neighbors' homes, nearby ditches and hard to reach areas. Officials tell News 4 WOAI this is a recovery effort, and not a rescue effort.

Texas toddler mysteriously disappears from house full of people

(CNN) -- The parents of a Texas toddler are struggling for answers days after their young son mysteriously disappeared from a house full of people.

Sabrina Benitez, the 18-month-old's mother, said she believes the boy was abducted -- insisting it would have been all but impossible for her boy to go outside. Even if he did, Benitez said, the toddler would have been smart enough to try to get back in or would have been spotted by now.

But New Braunfels Police Lt. Michael Penshorn said as of Monday, it's most likely that young Joshua Davis Jr. left the home without anyone noticing or taking him.
