UK - Critical incident in Hainault. 5 people stabbed. 36 year old man arrested

He does not look that injured in any of the footage that the police would have been unable to speak to him

Injured from the tasing? He was still running around and jumping over fences and roofs so I was surprised when they said he was too injured from the car crash.

I'm wondering if it's some sort of head injury from the car crash. Might mean they have to wait for him to be cleared by medical staff first? JMO.
I'm thinking maybe internal injuries from the crash, organ damage or internal bleeding?

Hopefully they will be able to question him soon and find out the motive. I suspect if this is MH related he will be sectioned upon hospital discharge to be fully assessed if not already.

As authorities don't believe this is terror-related, and have stated he has no previous convictions, I suspect this has to be mental health adjacent. Even if he did sustain an injury in the crash which meant he wasn't in his usual state of mind, it clearly isn't the reason for the outburst - nobody gets whiplash and plucks a sword out of thin air. This was pre-mediated regardless of the crash.

I also find it interesting that the suspect being known to police was handled the way it was, I can't put my finger on the tone but IMO I wouldn't be surprised if the suspect was known to the local authority for mental health/social care reasons. MOO

I think that’s possible

I think the police could also be just being clever at the minute and using this additional time to conduct thorough research into him before questioning (as soon as they start questioning the clock starts ticking) he will be under armed guards in hospital so not like he’s a further risk to the public.

What awful news.

My thoughts go out to the family of the 14 year old boy.. I guess he was on his way to school when this happened.

This attack looks more targeted to me - these random terror attacks / mental health related attacks usually happen in busier areas imo this looks like a residential estate.

This world is becoming a very scary place.

BBM. If this happened at around 7:00am it was probably too early for school. I'm thinking something like newspaper delivery.

"Female officer attacked by sword-wielding suspect

'could have nearly lost her arm'

but should make a full recovery with 'years of physio',

Met Police chief Mark Rowley reveals.

He said one male officer has serious injuries to his hand,
while a female colleague was in surgery for several hours yesterday after suffering 'horrifically serious' wounds to her arm.
He said the surgeon is 'increasingly optimistic'
the female officer could make a full recovery
but could take years of care and physio.

A neighbour yesterday paid tribute to the schoolboy victim, telling the Mail:

'He is a nice, quiet boy.
He does not play out, but stays at home.
His family are very nice, respectable.
They go to church and go out together as a family'.

It was reported last night that the boy went to private school and was wearing his sports clothes at the time of the stabbing.

Police said yesterday they did not believe the attack was 'targeted' or terror-related."

RIP to the victim :(
Condolences to Family.

I hope she makes a full recovery and is supported by the Met throughout her whole recovery period .

That poor boy he sounds like a lovely boy my heart breaks for his family.

Picture number 3 that you posted @Dotta really annoys me - the police car had a chance to stop the attack there and then by running into him with the car - this could’ve stopped more people being injured by the time he reached point 6.

"The 14-year-old boy
killed in a sword attack in London yesterday
was a pupil at the same school attended by
Nottingham stabbing victim Grace O'Malley-Kumar,
Sky News understands.

The school's flag is flying at half mast today after the most recent tragedy.

Ms O'Malley-Kumar's parents offered support to the schoolboy's family this morning."

"Suspect

‘called to God’

as he was restrained.

A resident of Thurlow Gardens, who wished to remain anonymous, said the suspect called out to God as police restrained and then arrested him.

'They were trying to get him down.
It took them quite a while,
he said:
‘God is coming’,
or something like this'."

"A 14-year-old boy killed in the sword attack
did not hear a warning about the assailant
because he was wearing headphones,
a neighbour has claimed."

The headphones part is just heartbreaking :(

Hainault attack: school praises Daniel Anjorin’s ‘positive and gentle’ character

In a statement, the school said: “We are devastated by the heartbreaking news of the death of Daniel Anjorin, who attended our school. This has left us in profound shock and sorrow.

“Daniel joined Bancroft’s at seven years old and quickly became a core member of our community. He was a true scholar, demonstrating commendable dedication to his academic pursuits.

“His positive nature and gentle character will leave a lasting impact on us. Losing such a young pupil is something we will always struggle to come to terms with.

“We are now doing all we can to support our entire community through this most painful situation.”

The ripple effects of the stabbings continued to be felt.

Daniel’s mother worked at the Holy Family Catholic school in Walthamstow, east London school. A statement on the school’s website said: “It is with great sadness that I share with you the news of the death of the child of one of our staff members.

“Mrs Anjorin’s son was taken from this life suddenly this morning on his way to school. Please keep Mrs Anjorin, her husband and their other children in your prayers.”

I have a question as a foreigner:

Why aren't British Police armed?

I think they are the only Police force in the world not armed with guns.

What is the reason for this situation?

TIA

The history of officers not being armed originates from the formation of the Metropolitan Police Service in the 19th century and is partly due to public fears and objections of armed enforcers. It had been seen as the responsibility of the British Army to maintain order when needed.

Thanks!

I decided to ask Uncle Google and found the answer in my country's MSM from 2017:

"The British police operate based on the principle of
'policing by consent'.

This means that officers are treated as
'citizens in uniform'.

Their behavior should be transparent and inspire trust.

In London,
90 percent of the policemen are not armed.
One explanation for this is that British citizens do not have weapons either,
and the police are mainly there to prevent crime.

In Great Britain,
apart from Northern Ireland,
an officer does not generally carry a weapon.
An average policeman has pepper spray, handcuffs,
a baton, a stun gun and a knife protection vest."

Some UK airports do have armed police officers.

Police in Ireland (Eire) and New Zealand aren't armed either. Like us they have specialist armed units but the regular force don't carry guns.
