Nine injured after 'corrosive substance' thrown in south London

A mother and her two young children are being treated in hospital after a man threw a suspected corrosive substance at them in south London.

The Metropolitan Police said emergency services were called to Lessar Avenue, near Clapham Common, at 19:30 GMT.

Nine people were injured, including officers and others who came to help the mother and children.

Police are searching for the suspect and are using a helicopter in their operation.
Photos from the scene show an abandoned silver hatchback abandoned with its doors open on the Lessar Avenue.

Det Supt Alexander Castle said: "While tests are ongoing to determine what the substance is, at this stage we believe it to be a corrosive substance."

London Assembly Member Marina Ahmad said on social media there had been a traffic collision on Lessar Avenue "with a man assaulting occupants in a car".

The Met said no arrest has been made. Police said they would provide an update on the conditions of the injured people as soon as they can.

Five people are in hospital after a man threw a suspected corrosive substance at a woman and two children

“A man was seen fleeing the scene. We are drawing on resources from across the Met to apprehend this individual and work is ongoing to determine what has led to this awful incident.”

No arrest has been made and police said they would give an update on the conditions of those injured as soon as possible.

A local politician said the woman and children were in a car when they were assaulted.

Marina Ahmad, Labour’s London Assembly member for Lambeth and Southwark, posted on X: “There has been a traffic collision with a man assaulting occupants in a car and throwing acid. Victims include children.”

Firefighters used specialist equipment to detect what is believed to be the corrosive substance used in the initial attack, a London fire brigade spokesperson said.

They added: “Firefighters were called to a chemical incident on Lessar Avenue in Clapham this evening.

“Working alongside emergency service partners, crews provided immediate emergency care to a woman and two children.

[…]

“We treated nine people, five of whom were taken to a major trauma centre. Three patients were taken to a local hospital and the other was discharged at the scene.”

''The attacker fled the scene after the incident, with Metropolitan Police now using a helicopter to assist the manhunt.''
''Three other people - who are all adults - have also been rushed to hospitals after sustaining injuries.
A further three police officers also received medical attention after responding to the scene, although their injuries are said to be minor.
It is believed all but the first three were 'inadvertently' injured while rushing to the family's aid.
Photos from the scene show an abandoned silver hatchback abandoned with its doors open on the street where homes sell for as much as £3million.''
''Based on a witness account, the suspect got a child out of the car and violently slammed them onto the floor, Sky News reported. Shortly afterwards, a woman who was arguing with the suspect began screaming “My eyes. My eyes. Call the police. My eyes.”

Acid attacks are typical for jealous and jilted bf/lovers/ partners/husbands.

So many reports and pictures of poor women with disfigured faces.

Cowardly and disgusting attacks.

''The victim of an "acid attack" in Surbiton who was left blind after a corrosive substance was sprayed into his car has issued a warning to everyone to "never open their car window if a stranger encourages them to."

''He urged the public never to open car windows when approached by strangers and shared concerns that such attacks may be linked to gang initiations.

Spencer said: “My message to you all is never open your car window if someone pulls up next to you screaming at your car. I don’t want this to ever happen to anyone else.”

Sounds like a horrific attack. Any ideas why there is no description of the suspect given, despite an extensive manhunt?

One witness told the BBC the mother cried: "I can't see, I can't see" as he tried to
help. "It was quite horrific," he added.

Police are searching for the suspect.

A couple who live on Lessar Avenue said they ran into the street after hearing a cry for help and then the sound of a car crashing.

"We came outside and saw this guy and he took a girl out of the car and he slammed her to the ground twice," a man, who did not want to give his name, said.

"I chased him half way down the road, but I was in slippers so didn't get very far.

"As I came back, that's when I saw the woman who had been attacked ... so I ran inside to get some water and just sprayed her down with water.

"It was quite horrific."

[…]

The extent of the victims' injuries have not been confirmed by police.

IMO
Such disgusting perps should pay for all cosmetic surgeries the victims must undergo.

Very expensive surgeries!
Make them pay till the last penny/cent.
Let them go into debt and pay till death!

Apart from the prison sentence of course.

Maybe it’s different when it‘s on skin? The NHS advises clean water:

Yep.
I changed my post.

But there are water reactive chemicals that react vigorously with moisture.

Justice for countless victims around the world!!!

Acid attack targets mother and her two children in London

A witness who said he had tried to clean the chemical from the woman's face told Sky News: 'It was horrific. First a man grabbed his kid - a girl aged two or three from a white car. He threw her onto the floor - twice! It was the worst thing I've ever seen.

BBM. This may be misreporting by the DM/Sky, given the BBC upthread says “a kid”, or it may be the woman was able to identify their attacker to the people who came to her aid.

I wonder if this is linked. This case appeared to be a random attack.
