BREAKING NEWS: BONES 17 IDENTIFIED
Parabon Nanolabs was contracted to do forensic genetic genealogy testing on Bones 17. Due to advancements in DNA technology, they were able to develop a new DNA profile to begin the forensic genetic genealogy process. After extensive research, they concluded that the victim was Lori Anne Razpotnik.
In 1982, Lori Anne was 15 years old and lived with her family in Lewis County. She ran away at some point during that year and her family never saw her again. King County Detectives contacted Lori Anne’s mother who provided them with a saliva sample. The University of North Texas did DNA comparison testing which confirmed that they were Lori Anne’s remains.
Parabon NanoLabs, which developed and operates the Snapshot ® Advanced DNA Analysis Service, is a vertically integrated DNA technology company located in Reston, Virginia, which develops next-generation forensic and therapeutic products, that leverage the enormous power of DNA. Staffed by a uniquely qualified team of scientists, analysts, and technologists, with expertise ranging from bioinformatics and genetic genealogy to chemistry and computer science, Parabon is bringing to market revolutionary new products and services made possible by recent advances in DNA sequencing, analysis, and manufacturing technologies.
Original Date December 30, 1985:
On December 30th, 1985, employees from the City of Auburn were called to investigate a car over an embankment in the 2000 block of Mt. View Drive SW. They discovered potential human remains and the Green River Task Force was called in and oversaw the investigation. During a subsequent search of the area by detectives and search and rescue personnel a second set of human remains were found. These two victims were not immediately identified and have been referred to as Bones 16 and Bones 17.
Gary Ridgway led investigators to this location in 2002 and admitted to placing victims there. He pleaded guilty to murdering these two victims in 2003, (Counts XXVII and XXVIII).
In 2012 Bones 16 was identified through DNA testing as Sandra Majors.

I just re-read Lori's isotope analysis on the Unidentified Wiki and they had her coming from Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, Alaska or even Canada. She was a local - Lewis County is only an hour-90 minutes away from Auburn where her body was found

I spent months researching the Green River case, and I yearned for the identification of Jane Doe B-17 and B-20. They were pet cases of mine. I'm so happy she's been identified. Rest in peace Lori Anne.

She also disappeared sometime in 1982, meaning it's possible she was the first Green River victim. Based on the location of her remains, I doubt it though.

RIP Lori Anne.

Detectives were provided a saliva sample from Lori Anne’s mother, which the University of North Texas used to confirm the remains were Lori Anne.

She was born and, partially, raised in Alaska.

I am SO happy Lori Anne has been identified!

Gary Ridgway's evil presence sadly still lurks everywhere here. It feels like you can't throw a rock in King County without hitting somewhere where he dumped a girl or woman like a piece of garbage. Vile. I am glad Lori is going home now. May she rest in peace at long last.

That's an interesting and informative article. I wondered more about her story, but I wasn't sure how much of it might be made public. Her mother's comments about denial are interesting.

That emotion is sometimes not commonly referred to when people talk about long unheard from family members, but while there certainly are many people who genuinely believe their family member is just out there living their life and others who aren't sure, as well those who simply have no clue where to look if they believe their family member may be deceased, there's those too, who probably know rationally that their family member would have been in touch if they could be, but give in to the emotion of denial while their missing family member is a John or Jane Doe somewhere that it takes genetic genealogy or other means to solve. It is sad, but very human.
