i wonder if Lyle liked baseball. Poor thing, wouldn't have had a decent team to rout for for miles, anyway.

it doesn't get much better than this, bases loaded, bott 9th, 2 outs, game 7...

I did a surname search on this site: http://ww2.howmanyofme.com/search/

I searched both "Stevik" and "Stevick"- there are zero people in the U.S. with the last name "Stevik", but there are 810 people in the U.S. with the last name "Stevick"

There are no Lyles in the U.S. however with either last name
I had checked the name (both spellings) through Accurint, which is a much larger database available to Law Enforcement. There is a Lyle Stevick in Oregon. He is an older gentleman who was alive and well, and not missing any relatives. There were some Steviks from the East coast, but no Lyles.

Hi Coldcaseman,

I thought you decided to call him Lyle because he signed in that way and you didn't know his real name because he had no ID.

I need to read that book, but if he were going to take a namesake from the book, I would have thought it would be the son and not the father. I've often wondered if this book was written about a real family for the story line, and it was his family.

But the belt was an interesting study CCM, and once I saw it I knew how you could see he had worn it all through his weight losing process.

I still think if we could show his picture to forensic anthropologists, especially ones that specialize in American Indians, like we would maybe find in Seattle, we would have more of an idea what tribe he would have descended from which might help finding a locale or town where he might have hailed from. He could be Tillicum or Puyullup, Nez Pierce up by Spokane - there are just so many small tribes like this in the Northwest.

And I don't think they would charge a think if a nice letter was written saying why this is needed, and sent with the two photos - side and front. If someone got me names of these professionals, I would be glad to do the work of writing a letter and getting copies of the photos, sending them out.

one smart cookie. good idea i think. (great minds run together, yada yada).]
ten minutes ago i wondered if there was access to some form of facial recognition method based on gathered info on historics of tribes. Betcha i could find it if there was. my geneology research could come in handy.
i'll help if you want. let me see what i find first. what ya think?
anyone?
kk

i sorta wish i hadn't found out about the other Lyle Stevik because for me, this one's the one and only.

I always wondered whether our Lyle had any kids of his own- maybe that might be why he took the name of the dad- or his own father was the same as the book character

I was sure that Lyle Stevik was an assumed name, but I checked it out anyway, in the chance it was his real name. I continue to call him Lyle, because I feel John Doe is so impersonal.

You guys are so great! So a question Doc. You are using the spelling our guy gave at the motel, right. STEVIK It is so odd that when he gave the correct address for the motel he misspelled the name by one letter.

I've always thought he read the book and knew he would need a name and address for the motel. He wasn't that familiar with the name Stevick in that it wasn't his real name and kind of an odd name. So he misspelled it by that little 'c'!

PS: I reread that and see you researched both names, but don't you think what I said points out a red flag?

Yea, I thought so Coldcaseman. He is a person to me with a name, which is good. I've never ever known a Lyle. ;}

i've found some great info on pacific nw tribes. Got a website and contact names of physical anthropologists specializing in Native Americans. Great maps of tribal layout through pac and plains territories.
Washington State Univ. be right back with url's.

the first site that was interesting:

content.lib.washington.edu

it's a digital library for the university that has great links within. great maps!

another is:

lib.washington.edu/subject/history

I'll go find the anthropologists number and post in the morning. Maybe she could lead us to an artist that give us some possible background on Lyle.

I agree that it seems odd and it made me think that perhaps he either had a name of similar origin or knew someone that did so that he knew how to correctly spell the name and, perhaps subconciously, signed it that way in the sign in book.

Not sure what you mean beyond what I just answered. If you meant more than I just posted about please explain further and I will try my best to give good answers.

Note to readers: I apologize for the flurry of "Stevik" search results posted previously. I was just having a bit of fun. Sometimes I like to run little short websearches for fun and this search reminded me of something that I first bumped into long ago when web searching: Which search engine you use can get you better or worse results depending on the purpose you are trying to research (For instance:Some search engines won't crawl and index personal websites or they didn't in the past.) and depending on how well their own data bases are kept up and how often they are updated. Also the way you research something can make a difference and I haven't even touched on the "wayback machine" website.

I know we are all here for a serious purpose, and you all likely knew all that I just said, but sometimes I like to just goof around with a simple search just to blow the cobwebs out of my head. Hope I didn't go too far overboard for anyone.

Doc, i just read your 3am post. Goofy's fine with me. i'll get right back on anthro lead in a min. had to go get son fr school, nurse called, itchy hives,
'any allergies?'
i said none, he hasn't done this since I"VE known him.
anyway, came home, threw him in pool, whipped out the calamyde, a cup of koolaid and a benedryl. he'll be fine directly.
ok, so let me make a couple calls and i'll be back shortly.
good day,
kk
