I know I'm late reading this, but wow. Just horrible. I never liked how their write-up of the incident didn't match what I saw in the video.

Just a thought. If BL’s parents were able to hide him away and the police and FBI can’t track their movements or find Brian I’d say we shouldn’t underestimate them!
They are better than all the kings horses and all the kings men!

I guess it can't hurt, but the odds are against it. Law enforcement has a great many more resources, to include actual evidence that a bounty hunter would not be privy to.

That's of course assuming he's not in the preserve in the first place.

Totally agree. The part I like best is that Dog's involvement further exposes the puzzling (hypocritical? deceptive? inconsistent?) behavior of the parents. Missing precious son and they decline likely free assistance of a man famous for finding missing people? And, Dog's involvement amplifies worldwide attention on this case. Sure, Dog may benefit publicity wise, but he also brings more eyes and ears.

just my opinion

I'll eat my hat if he is but I really don't think BL is on the Appalachian Trail. As a hiker he'd know it's one of the busiest trails in the country. Even I have done many day hikes on the AT and I'm no hiker - it is always full of people from families on easy trails (or trails that connect with the main AT) to thru-hikers.
That’s true March-July. But this time of year it’s a ghost trail. With a zillion spots to hide out off trail a bit. Springs, rivers, shelters. All he’d need is a Sawyer or LifeStraw- plenty of clean water. Plus foraging opportunities. Plus familiarity. Plus easy access from FL trail system. No alligators. I’d scout out the AT areas he took GP for her bday. But that’s me.

Maybe. But even one or two would recognize Brian. His name and picture are everywhere! I don’t see him anywhere John Q Public might be.

I hike a lot in W. North Carolina. The AT in this part of the country is a total zoo this time of year. Every bit as busy, if not busier, than during the summer, though not with thru-hikers, all day hikers. This is the nicest time of year to hike in NC.

No surviving Carlton Reserve

The Carlton Reserve is home to 13-foot alligators, panthers, black bears, wild boar and several lethal varieties of snakes. McEwen says that even if Laundrie could manage to fend off the park’s most terrifying predators, its insects alone could be enough to do him in.

Asked about the possibility Laundrie may have died trying to hide in the reserve, McEwen was certain Laundrie’s body would have been found by now.

"Anything dead you find in the woods, you're gonna look up, you’re gonna see buzzards flying like crazy," he said. "No buzzards, no body is my theory. And I haven’t seen any buzzards flying."

An observation such as this is significant, particularly because we have so little to go on in terms of what the searchers have found in Carlton Reserve. I am keeping a somewhat open mind, but I'm still 80% convinced that BL is not currently in Carlton Reserve, whether alive or dead. MOO

Southbound hikers start later. I hiked McAfee Knob regularly when I lived in Roanoke, VA and there were still through hikers hoping to make Springer into October. We're over a month away from ghost trail status.

At first I thought he got on the Florida Trail and went to the Appalachian Trail. Because he seems to fancy himself an outdoorsman. With winter coming on I don't know. I had recently looked at personally vacationing in Puerto Rico. You only need a US driver's license to enter. Puerto Rico also uses US dollars so no exchange to foreign currency. I looked at flying there, but is there a boat you can take? Can you leave the Florida Keys or Miami and go by boat?
Could the parents have driven him to AT and dropped him off, fully equipped, on that 3 day camping trip?

Mr. Izzy was watching pro football today and I glanced over at the TV to see someone on the sidelines, obviously team staff, who looked remarkably like BL.

Of course it wasn't him, but I think there are millions of men in this country that all have the same similar look, and he won't be located by visual identification for that reason.

Yeah- for all we know, he’s shaved, plucked his brows, dyed his hair blond & is sporting pink ambrosia lipstick as a trans hiker. The section of AT I know best is north GA into GSMNP & you can be SO UNSEEN for miles & miles of trail- plus adjacent tracks of National Forest & BLM land. When we first learned he headed to his neighborhood swamp, I thought AT. Still think that’s where he is. Imo

FBI back at Laundrie house; Authorities still searching for Brian Laundrie (winknews.com)
[...]

This weekend, there hasn’t been much about any new developments. WINK News Safety and Security Specialist Rich Kolko says the lack of activity could be a good sign.

“While a lot of the physical activity may be reduced as time goes on, there’s a lot of work being done behind the scenes. There’s agents writing subpoenas, conducting surveillances. Everything to build that timeline,” Kolko said.

“They need to complete the search in Sarasota so they can positively say that Brian Laundrie is not there,” said Kolko.

North Port Police told WINK News that crews have also been searching the preserve at night. The FBI announced it will now be the lead agency in the search for Laundrie and that the North Port Police Department will only be assisting.

I have never thought that BL would be actually hiking the AT, but NEAR the area somewhere. It is close, convenient and familiar to him. He's not hiking amongst thousands of others, he's hunkered down somewhere in Appalachia....all set up. Thanks Mom and Dad!

No buzzards? I live near a wild life refuge and there are always buzzards. They have to eat. We see them just driving through, even in areas near the reserve. I would think the same for Carlton Reserve. It’s just part of the circle of life.

I talked to the rangers and some wilderness buffs here and they all resoundingly agreed that anyone familiar with our refuge here could likely hide out for a very long time and any manhunt in there would likely be futile. In addition the Federal property, a lot of private Land that is deserted most of the time. A lot Of hideaways and enough people traffic in and around there that it’s easy to hide. The nights, the wild life, the bugs would be the worst part of it. Food and water , not an issue with rudimentary knowledge. I have to agree. I doubt I could evade a dragnet after me; can’t even imagine it, but I can survive there for a month, just dropped off with my basic carry bag. Wouldn’t be enjoyable, but I am confident I could, and I am no wilderness specialist. I spend hours out there with my dogs each week so I know the areas well.
