Oh and his motion to suppress his confession was denied.

"Attorneys in the case are asking for a 20-32 year prison sentence.

Sentencing won’t take place until the resolution of the other two cases."

Kwaks trial has already been wiped from the docket.

Karol-chiks still shows up, so not sure if that means he did not take the plea deal or what. Could also just be leaving it on the docket till he formally pleas in court. Who knows, he has a hearing May 15th, guess we will know then.

"Nicholas 'Mitch' Karol-Chik
pleaded guilty to three counts,
including second-degree murder in the death of Alexa Bartell,
and agreed to a sentence range of 35-72 years.

First Judicial District Judge Christopher Zenisek
accepted the deal,
and the guilty pleas to added counts of second-degree murder, criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder (all nine victims named)
and crime of violence.

Fifteen counts were dropped in the plea agreement.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 10.

Both Kwak and Karol-Chik agreed to testify against Koenig
as part of their plea agreements."

"Kwak said they would use 'marine terms' when launching the rocks,
saying:
'Mitch would say things like, ‘contact left,’ before Joseph would throw the rock at a car on the left side of theirs.'

He said the rock which killed Bartell made
a 'very loud noise... like a rail gun' when it made contact with her windshield.

Koenig was described by a friend as someone who likes creating 'chaos' and would often act in a destructive manner.

'Joseph and Mitch were talking about them now being
‘blood brothers’
and they could never speak of the incident,'
Kwak added.

The three met up the following day to
'get their stories straight'.

They had thrown rocks at vehicles on about ten occasions since February.

Six other cars were damaged and two more drivers were injured on the night Bartell was killed."

6/7/2024: Nicholas Karol-Chik trial canceled - he took a plea deal in which he admitted to providing another suspect, Joseph Koenig, with the rock that killed Bartell.

Ive been busy so I missed the last couple of hearings...

Just noticed his trial is gone from the docket.

Did he change his plea or something?

Can't find any media on it either.

It has been continued as the defense has raised the possibility of insanity. He will get a mental health eval.

Trial originally scheduled Friday, July 19, 2024 is now delayed. JK is the final suspect, two others have already pleaded guilty.

The third and final suspect accused of throwing a rock into a car and killing a woman will undergo a mental health evaluation after the defense raised the issue of juvenile brain development.

Attorneys for 19-year-old Joseph Koenig raised concerns about an ADHD diagnosis last month.

The judge allowed the delay while saying he understood how upsetting it could be for the families and victims of the crime.

Families of the victims quickly left the courtroom following the decision.
