Can we have a link for this please- the only quotes I have seen, he was on a road walking and even they are rumours in so much as the person quoted spoke to another person who saw him and hadn’t seen them personally.
To be honest I can't click most of the tabloid links as some of the sites lock up my computer. I did see the Mirror has articles with the woman who knew of someone who saw him walking, and I thought the person I was quoting was referring to something a bit more concrete but I haven't seen that first-hand.

Half an hour later another witness traced by MailOnline Ofelia Medina Hernandez said she had seen Jay standing by the bus stop directly outside the Airbnb and had asked about buses back to Los Cristianos.

Ms Medina Hernandez explained that the next bus down the mountain in the Parque Rural de Teno was not until two hours
'I held up my fingers on my hands to say 10am as he didn't understand me then I went home briefly before driving up the mountain to Buenavista del Norte, but this time I saw him walking on the road out of the village.

'It was no more than ten or fifteen minutes after I had spoken to him and he was about a kilometre from the house. I drove past him and that's the last I saw him.'

The bit that keeps going into my thoughts when reading this

"The next bus down the mountain"

From his location he would of had to go up the mountain road first to get over that peak then go up/down a few times before meeting the actual drop down into main towns. He might of been confused by her saying "Down the mountain" and the last location he was pinged - going down the mountain took you backwards to the direction he was heading and down the ravine to the beach path. Which from others that walked it (including myself) its extremely hard and in this weather not for someone in his state.

I know it’s the Daily Mail but they say they spoke to the woman personally:

Half an hour later another witness traced by MailOnline Ofelia Medina Hernandez said she had seen Jay standing by the bus stop directly outside the Airbnb and had asked about buses back to Los Cristianos.

Ms Medina Hernandez explained that the next bus down the mountain in the Parque Rural de Teno was not until two hours later at 10am.

It’s cold at night, but not as hot as people keep saying during the day. Yesterday it was 17 and drizzle where they were searching. If you look at the weather report from the last week searching for the mountain villages and not the south of Tenerife, it has been warmer here the last couple of days. IMO I agree it is probably misadventure, I’m not convinced they are searching in the right area and wish they would broaden the search along the roads and the sides of the roads. That being said, there will be morning moisture and he may have managed to survive out in the wilderness, it’s a slim chance, but it’s not impossible although as the days go on it’s more improbable sadly.
Competent search and rescue teams (and I've seen nothing to suggest that the one involved here isn't) deploy systematic approach that starts out with the last known point and goes out in the most likely patterns from there checking off the areas you've searched. By this stage of a search you're into less probable areas. That might make it look like they're searching in an odd area.
Most likely scenarios:
- He's an area that's been searched (or he went back into a previously searched area, it happens) but was missed. Maybe sheltered under a rock/shelter to escape the elements and is hard to sport.
- Has taken an unlikely route and/or combined with his youth has carried him to somewhere you wouldn't expect him to go. As we know, he had no means of navigation or knowing where he was which makes it hard to ascertain what route he's taken.
His best chance is that if he's found a source of water, however unpromising it might be, and stayed put with it.

So no one saw him head off into the wilderness, just on the roads. His initial description was he was in the middle of nowhere and could be applied as a description on a long winding road. If there was a video call then they may have seen first hand he was off the roads, otherwise it appears at first glance the entire search is being based off a Snapchat pin. It wouldn’t be the first time that the original assumed location was in fact incorrect upon further investigative work. The webcam from Hilda’s view, which has been shared a lot and overlooks the entire valley is located at a large cafe with veranda- I’m hoping this has been checked and they then saw him leave the road
ETA especially as they have a witness who drove by him and recognised him.

She also said that he didn't seem to understand much of what she was saying, though, so he might not have understood "down the mountain" if she was speaking in Spanish. If he understood that it was more than an hour until the next bus and nothing was open, I guess that's why he decided to just start walking.

One method Ive seen in documentaries is if they have a "last known" location, via mobile pings or in this case snapchat. They can draw a circle and know if someone walks 2-3 hours they would get X far. They can then cover that location in multiple directions.

How long typically would search and rescue teams expend these kind of resources and continue the search before calling off?

The Civil Guard, the Spanish police force leading the search for Jay Slater, expect to find a body, but have said they will not stop until they have solved the mystery.

I wonder why Lucy didn’t want to face the cameras when being interviewed?
Probably because she’s been torn apart on social media and is only 18 years old. Maybe because she hasn’t slept properly and feels awful?

A lot of reasons to be honest.

Not everyone is comfortable in front of cameras and being shown on TV.

"Tenerife search for missing Jay Slater

moves to new area as rescuers focus on

'unforgiving' ravine'.

Search teams looking for Jay Slater, 19,
have switched to a ravine area in the Masca valley,
around 100 metres below the missing teenager's rental property in Tenerife.

Rescuers wearing hard hats and other mountain rescue equipment
have switched their attention to a ravine area in the Masca valley.

It is around 100 metres down below the rental property where Jay, 19, was last seen on Monday morning
and on the opposite side of the mountain pass which rescuers were searching on Thursday.

A source said:
'Teams are searching high and low.
It's a very rural and unforgiving area to search with undulating terrain and lots of dangers.
The intention is to carry on until the boy is found'.

This morning a police helicopter was seen flying over the Masca Gorge,
while officers from a specialist mountain rescue unit called the Greim and others with scent dogs searched on the ground.

While the guard is leading the operation,
it is a coordinated,
multi-organisation effort
that has also seen participation from firefighters and local Civil Protection workers."

I really do hope they find something today!

Yes, that’s understandable.

But I was thinking if she did then it may trigger memories from others at the festival who may have recognised the 3 of them.

Just a thought..

She said the 2 older men were black so any festival goer would more likely notice 2 black guys twice the age of the 3 youngsters they were partying with, I don’t think showing her face would help bring witnesses

I mean by their age not their skin colour, 2 guys twice the age and more of the 3 they were with would stand out

Is it possible to go back in time on these webcams views?

The new witness timing is interesting and likely reliable. She seen him walking along the road 1km from the village at 08:15 am, in the wrong direction, which ties in with the location he shared. Jay made his last call at 08:50am which only gives him 35 minutes to get "lost" which is not a lot of time. He had walked 1km in 15 minutes along an uphill road, but by the point of the phone call occurred 35 minutes later, he seems to have already left the road as he mentions he has cut himself on a cactus, assumably by travelling through scrub. However by the time search parties arrived many hours later, he will likely have moved further again.

By ruling out the webcam views and his last sighting, this could help locate the point where Jay left the road, which is ultimately the most important piece of information. It seems to suggest that he descended into the gorge in that time, because if he had went up in altitude he would see the villages and roads. This brings two possibilities, Barranco Juan Lopez (where his last pin is located) and the Barranco Del Retamar.

Not for us, although it does a Timelapse of the day before- that’s not to say the actual location doesn’t have it stored and saved..

The search teams appear to be methodically searching along a mountain road and have focused on a ravine, before moving to a valley in the village of Masca.

Police and mountain rescue officials have been seen examining a steep area behind the apartment Mr Slater had reportedly been driven to.

Investigators have been taking away bags of rubbish from the area to try and find any clues, but have not had any leads so far.

The apprentice bricklayer was on his first holiday without his parents and was attending the NRG music festival with two friends.

Lucy Law, who was the last person to speak to him, said he told her in their call that he had missed a bus and decided to walk the 10-hour journey home but was lost, needed water and his phone was on 1% battery.

The national park is about a 40-minute drive from where Mr Slater and his friends were staying.
