Very happy to see an arrest for Dr. Hoover's murder. Terrible to know the suspect killed someone else in the meantime.

Hearing about the tremendous amount of evidence and the geography involved, this long wait makes a little more sense.

It's Michigan, if he's found guilty, he's getting LWOP, which means exactly that in Michigan.

I find it interesting that Crime Stoppers increased the cash reward for information that would lead to an arrest to $22,500 on August 2 and charges were filed on August 7. I wonder if one of the reluctant witnesses came forward or if it was just coincidence?

A Detroit man accused in the 2023 fatal shooting of a Detroit neurosurgeon found in a Boston-Edison home was formally charged Thursday and ordered returned to jail, where he has been since May after being charged in the killing of another person.

Desmond Burks, 34, was arraigned in 36th District Court in Detroit on multiple charges in connection with Devon Hoover's death, including first-degree murder, felony murder, larceny of $20,000 or more, three counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said.

Authorities allege Burks killed Hoover in April 2023 and stole about $30,000 and two watches worth more than $6,000 each from his home.

A magistrate ordered Burks held without bond and scheduled his next court hearing for Aug. 15, officials said...

The number of witnesses (at least 87), pieces of body camera evidence analyzed (more than 77), number of cell phones examined (44 that contained more than 2 terabyte of data) are staggering. No wonder it has taken time. There are more nu: mbers in the article

Not to dismiss all their hard work....
But it does look like they had their suspect almost from the get-go.. so why so many states, countries, people etc were involved in the case?

right. but they had dna from the fingerprint on the range rover, along with a lot of evidence early on......
As DB had been in some kind of relationship with the dr, he could have said he had used the car before the day of the murder, the same with any fingerprints and other DNA in the house, as well as other evidence. The police must prove that DB had killed the dr and stolen items from him, that the watches and money hadn't been "gifts" given to DB.

It's about time! Press conference at 11:00AM today.
Intimate partner. I bet this is the same guy they took into custody early on and then released.

yeah... I see how the perhaps intimate parts of their relationship could pre-define the evidence.
Expecially, if he was the guy they held at the beginning.

At first, I remember thinking that the way he was carried to the attic, and wrapped... might have been a sign of intimacy gone awry. <modsnip>

Hey folks,

DETROIT – Some murders go unsolved. Some go cold for months, years. Some are never solved.

In the shocking case of Dr. Devon Hoover -- found with two gunshots to his head, his body wrapped up in a bloody carpet and stuffed into a cramped upper crawlspace in the doctor’s massive Boston Edison home -- we are told the investigators were given the name of the person who allegedly did it, as one person tells me “from the jump.”

Last week Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced murder charges against 34-year-old Desmond Burks, naming Burks as the killer of Dr. Hoover.

Worthy started by saying that the complex investigation that finally led to charges 16 months later spanned five states and two countries.

The report, she said, is 181 pages long. Hours of video were gathered and poured over. Cell phone data was extracted and analyzed...
