Lafayette police sgt is quoted as saying that it isn't currently clear if Elisard Moneus is Jacob's father. He says that he is a suspect in Jacob's death, but the charges are for a previous DV dispute and are not related to Jacob's death.

It’s crazy.. They actually found him driving near Sheridan, IN. When they pulled him over & saw he didn’t have the baby with him, they arrested him & brought helicopters, firefighters & many LE were on foot looking for this baby.

Even if EM and the baby's mother was in a relationship or married doesn't mean that JM had to be EM's biological child, the child could have got EM's surname at birth due to the relationship. If EM later on began to be suspicious about the child's paternity, and asked for a paternity test, it's not sure the result had yet arrived, or unfortunately, the result had arrived and had shown he wasn't the biological father.

uggh. 3 months is wee. No bigger than a bread box really. Microwave, crawl space access, oven, fridge, freezer, the possibilities are endless.

Prosecutors: Baby Jacob's body found in sealed bucket set beside trash can

Police found 3-month-old Jacob Moneus' body sealed inside a bucket of laundry detergent, according to prosecutors' probable cause affidavit.

Moneus' wife said they had been married about 11 months and that he was angry with her since Aug. 5. They had not spoken to each other through the week, according to prosecutors.

Eliasard Moneus appeared in court Monday afternoon for hearings about possible charges in allegations that he severely battered his wife, as well as possible charges alleging he killed his 3-month-old son, Jacob.

Prosecutors received a 72-hour extension to file formal charges.

A bond request form obtained by FOX59/CBS4 also indicates Eliasard Moneus “has few ties, if any, to the community” and “is a foreign national believed to be unlawfully present in the United States.”

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Eliasard’s son on Monday. The autopsy states that the preliminarily cause of death for the infant was asphyxia. The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office has preliminarily ruled the child’s death a homicide.

What is happening to our society? Another case of a man who hated his wife (more like his possession) so bad that he wanted to destroy her and everything dear to her. He probably thought he had killed her when he killed the child. He beat her with a tire iron so I am sure she was unconscious for some time and had no idea what he had done with the child…she just woke up and they were gone so she assumed he took the child with him. Poor woman.

That's not as off the wall as it may seem- I speak fluent Spanish, but were I to be tried for a crime in Mexico, I'd still ask for an interpreter. There are just too many little nuances of language that non-native speakers don't catch, that could be REALLY important in a court situation. (Also we want this... individual... to be provided with absolutely zero grounds for appeal at a later time, so better to cover all bases now.)

Missing 3-Month-Old Was Found Asphyxiated Inside a Bucket, Father Arrested: Police

An Indiana man is facing several charges, including murder, after his 3-month-old son was reported missing and later found asphyxiated inside a bucket, say police.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, the 28-year-old appeared in court for an initial hearing and told judge Sarah Wyatt through a court-appointed Haitian Creole translator that he did not agree with some of the charges, according to the Lafayette Journal & Courier. The judge eventually entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, according to an initial hearing order obtained by PEOPLE.

Moneus could face 45 to 65 years in prison if convicted of murder, as well as 20 to 40 years in prison if convicted in connection with the alleged attempted murder of his wife, the outlet added. He also signed a no-contact order for his wife, and court records state that his jury trial is set to begin on Jan. 21, 2025. He is next due in court on Sept. 30.
