Taken from one place to another could literally just be from the hallway into his apartment, or something like that, right? Not saying that's what happened, but in terms of kidnaping it doesn't necessarily mean someone was taken into the woods, or to another town, etc.

Imo

Court has updated the charges and removed the 2nd degree murder charge after it was upgraded after the GJ findings. I know someone that had GJ last week but I didn't ask details because she took an oath but she said it was very heartbreaking.

<modsnip - quoted post was from an AI source>

Washington county hasn't had a high profile case in years. I'm confident justice will be served in this case. If it happened in Multnomah county, (serves the city of Portland), I wouldn't be so confident. MOO

Can you discuss the apartment building and how close the apts might be from each other? Is there adequate lighting in the parking garage? Are residents getting back to routine or are they still afraid, especially female residents? Do they have an outside security patrolling the building to help residents feel a bit safer? Are alot of ppl trying to get out of their lease?

They were alluding to a lot but things are still sealed. I just wanted to wipe the smirk off his face. JMO
What did they allude to? You can 'JMO' it right? This case is driving me nuts because there is too little out there and thus much to speculate on. He gives me Bryan K. vibes.
"New court documents revealed that Melissa Jubane is believed to be intentionally killed on or about Sept. 4 by Schubert in Washington County.

Schubert is also believed to have caused intentional harm and abuse to Jubane's body after killing her." Neighbor accused of killing Beaverton nurse pleads not guilty
Good God, what did he do to this poor woman even AFTER he killed her? She's only a little older than me... terrifying...

Just catching up with everything! It's hard to explain distance in this building, since it is HUGE. Can I post pictures of the hallway, distance between units, the parking lot? I just don't want to get in trouble for posting things that I can't.

Lighting in parking garage - 5th floor is open to the elements. 4th floor gets light from 5th floor. The lower you go, the darker it is, but there is lighting. One does need to drive with their headlights on.

Looks like everybody is getting back into the routine of things, but when men see me alone with my dog, they make sure to keep their distance (I think to be respectful and not come across as creeps). We do have an outside security patrol, called Signal. They also patrol the garage at night in their car.

Yes, according to the leasing office, people have been calling to get out of their lease. I stop by every day (my dog knows that they have treats, so I really have no say in the matter) and when I was in there, they were getting calls from residents wanting to break their lease.

Your pooch seems to have a sleuth's heart!
How cunning of him to stop at this Office!
Phew!

You're a VI so you can post stuff like this. :)

Is it open to the elements plus have lighting? How light or dark was it at ~6:30am a few weeks back? Gloomy, hard to see, clear as a bell? Parking garages aren't my favorite places. I find them creepy so I avoid them if I can.

Then they aren't thinking clearly IMO. Unless their issue is a lack of cameras, but even that might not have saved Melissa. A camera records what's happening, it doesn't necessarily deter it, although it sure helps. If their issues are that a killer lived there... He's gone now. Locked up. If it's the latter I hope the building management can help them not be so emotional about it because now would likely be the best time to live there IF you had another murderer living in the building which I HIGHLY doubt. The odds are high against it. But say you did have another guy with weird ideas... they for darn sure aren't going to act out now. Not with everyone so hyper vigilant in the building from the renters to the staff. I can't imagine 1 person walking around with blinders on in that building these days. Sure, that wanes over time, but right now it's too new and raw IMO.

I really think that current residents will be able to get out of their lease. I have seen it before when a crime like this has happened. Much cheaper to release the lease agreement than deal with multiple lawsuits. Property management just needs to write off the loss revenue in this case . JMO

I assumed that was the reason he kidnapped and murdered Melissa. But your comment has me second-guessing that. Given the PCA was sealed so quickly, we may be surprised at what's revealed Monday. Regardless, it's going to be very difficult for her family and those who loved Melissa.
I've literally never heard of a case like this where rape wasn't involved. Since they upgraded it to 1st degree murder, I'm kinda wondering if they're just waiting to add more charges.

I still feel pretty strongly he lured her into his apartment, which I believe was 2 doors down, and was ready to attack. It just makes sense. But, he's a monster and a psychopath so maybe I'm getting it wrong. I also think he raped her in one way or another, as I've simply never in my life heard of a case like this without rape - or attempted rape.

Maybe he sexually assaulted her after she was dead? Horrible I know, but he is horrible.
He was charged with second degree abuse of a corpse. If she was sexually assaulted after death, he would have (or should have) been charged with first degree. MOO

A person commits the crime of abuse of corpse in the first degree if the person:
(a) Engages in sexual activity with a corpse or involving a corpse; or
(b) Dismembers, mutilates, cuts or strikes a corpse.

A person commits the crime of abuse of corpse in the second degree if, except as otherwise authorized by law, the person intentionally:
(a) Abuses a corpse; or
(b) Disinters, removes or carries away a corpse.
