I submitted appeals on the three FOIA requests I submitted to Ypsilanti City Council. All three were denied. I guess I'll have to continue to find other avenues to persue!
When I submitted the FOIA requests to the City of Ypsilanti, I asked for copies of the press releases from the Police Department. The Police Department said that they did not have copies and that those records are unavailable! Their exact answer was "Record does not exist. There is no record of...
I am not sure how to post a link to something posted on YouTube but there is a group or site called "Explore With Us" that has started posting information about Julia's case. These include interviews with many family members. I did an interview as did Kim Julia's mom), Jennifer (Julia's twin)...
I have submitted three FOIA requests to the City of Ypsilanti. All three were denied because - direct quote from denial form :"All records within the City re Julia Niswender are currently exempt under Foia as the file is an ongoing open investigation and pursuant to MCL 15.243 Sec. 13(1)(b)(i)...
No new news or updates.... I continue to "dig" and do my research as I have always done. My prayers are that we will have some progress in the near future and possibly solve her murder to help our family finally get some "closure". We have lost an angel and I wonder what she could tell us if she...
The tanning salon was a stand alone business in Monroe, Michigan. I don't believe Julia had recently worked there. Monroe is 35 miles or so from Ypsilanti, where Eastern Michigan University is located. The laptop was a gift from Julia and her twin sister. Julia had a descent job and would save...
I am disappointed in not only the Ypsilanti Police but also Kim & Jim Turnquist. The Ypsilanti Police do not provide public press releases concerning the case and the parents have not and will not provide formal written statements to the police. Why? It has been more than eight years and yet...
It will be 8 years next month and still no arrests and the possibility of that happening looks less and less each and every day that passes. The Ypsilanti Police Dept (YPD) will not submit the required one nanogram of DNA to Parabon Labs for their genetic testing which could result in solving...
We have suggested this to the Ypsilanti Police Department and the answers are : "this is a solvable case and we don't need any outside help!" They have refused any "outside" help over and over again.
As most of you know, my granddaughter, Julia Niswender, was a student at Eastern Michigan University and was murdered in December 2012. Her murder remains unsolved and since November of 2018, the Ypsilanti Police Department has informed me that they will no longer talk to me. I have emailed...
Short update...... I filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the city of Ypsilanti requesting " A copy of all Ypsilanti Police press releases related to the murder of Julia Niswender in December of 2012."
The answer from the Police Department was "No records of the press release".
I am...
The article was citing 2017 data. I have talked to the Michigan State Police crime lab and that backlog has been eliminated and the lab is currently up to date.

I have contacted MLive in Ann Arbor and the Detroit Free Press. MLive did answer and I have been emailing one of their reporters there. I have not been given a reporter's name for the Detroit Free Press. I will check with the Monroe News in Monroe, MI to see if they would be interested. I feel...
I have tried to contact MLive Ann Arbor about doing a story on Julia's case. They seemed very interested but as of yet, no article that I know of. All I can do is keep trying to get her story out there in the public's eye. I won't quit and I'll keep trying until we have Justice for Julia!
I'm still waiting for Kim or Jennifer to do their interview for the podcast on Jayis4Justice on YouTube! If it ever happens, it should be interesting to say the least.
