I believe you have the cars mixed up, the Volvo belongs to CJ, the Chrysler Neon belongs or belonged to IS (the chap in South Africa).
Out of the two cars it is more likely that the Chrysler Neon would be the one that would be lent out.
Sorry but nobody knows what time J arrived home. That has been one of the problems that the Police faced with the investigation. The 8:50 time comes from a reasonable guestimate based on the last confirmed sighting and the walking time from Regent St but there could easily be a 5 or 10 minutes...
The neighbour seems to talk about it as something he had witnessed (possibly PS?)
Although VT was staying at EW's (I assume you meant EW) flat since his return from Holland, I don't think TM would have been too happy about VT staying at her friends house overnight. Canynge Road and Aberdeen...
The Volvo S40 belonging to CJ is less than 5 years old, your reference to an "Old Volvo" made me wonder if there was another car that had been identified.

Thank you for the welcome.
One of the options the defence will have is to present alternative scenarios and alternative suspects to try to introduce reasonable doubt. So absolutely, they will need to show they were not blinkered.
The prosecution will need to prove that NUA was not the only line of investigation. Therefore the Police will need to clear up all loose ends to completely confirm that he was not involved before they drop things. Often they will just let the bail expire rather than actively cancelling anything.
