I am in a group on Facebook about this case and I suddenly have a much deeper appreciation for the rules here. There are people on there stalking supposed blood family members and sending them messages, harassing them, etc. Bunchacrazies! I mean, I can understand police reaching out, but random...
(sorry to quote myself)
This also points to how you can avoid issues with custodial interference if you find yourself in this situation. You can release the child but immediately call police for a welfare check. The women couldn't have just avoided answering the door when the police showed up...
Yes indeed. He saw the urgency to call police and did just that. Too bad his daughter and son in law didn't call that night. That would have ensured a police visit and could have saved their lives.
Oh my. That is so sad. However, I can sort of understand their perspective, since a welfare check is to determine if something is wrong at that immediate time. If I am not mistaken, the police told Dana DeKalb's father to call CPS instead.

I don't know if this is allowed, due to the way it was posted, or if anyone can see it, but this is a video from Ashleigh Banfield with the sherriff, Thomas Allman, where he states that they are in contact with the...
I thought the same thing. Didn't the other neighbor say he saw them outside "all the time?" I also noticed from the pictures that the kids could go in their own backyard and wouldn't be visible to the DeKalb's. I am not attaching any nefarious motives to them, just suggesting that it seems more...
I was wondering about that picture of Abigail with the greenhouse. Jen must have made her open the cover in such a way as to throw snow all over herself to stage the picture. It struck me as a bit odd, not to mention cold. On the other hand, I don't think those flowers wouldn't survive in that...
I was looking at the pictures the other day trying to determine if I thought that was the case. I'm not so sure. The recent pics were in winter/spring and there are also pics of the kids in swimming suit pics and so on a so forth.
I thought the "red flags" comment was in reference to when they spoke with friends of the couple. I haven't yet seen comments about red flags found in the home. I hope there were, for what it's worth. It would be terrible to think that Jen/they could just end their story and not leave any...
Me too. I've seen multiple comments all over the internet, as well as a few here that say something along the lines of "those @#%$&^ should never have been allowed to adopt." It is true that *they* should not have been allowed to adopt the second set of siblings, for sure, but to make such...
I think they made some reference to her age - I read an article early on that said they specifically thought she was 7 because of her missing front teeth - and the Hart women felt compelled to respond. They dialed back the age to make the DeKalb's less alarmed by her small size.
I don't believe so. My understanding is that after the adoption all checks cease unless a report of abuse is made. My suspicion is that the withholding food is somehow connected to the anniversary. Tangentially or otherwise. Maybe one or more kid had an "attitude" about the way they were being...
Does anyone else think it's ironic that Devonte started going over to the DeKalb's saying they were starving him within days or maybe even the day of his adoption anniversary?

Backed out in a rage and hit it with the SUV? That would be my guess but it's just speculation. We certainly won't be able to tell from the SUV now. It does seem rather ominous though.
I saw where one person stated that he was not in the same environment as his siblings. Could he have been cared for by another family member for a while and then put into foster care with his sisters? I agree, he looks a bit different. It may just be genetics though.
