This is one of the Daily Mail’s most intentionally misleading headlines out there. She didn’t “dismiss” him, it’s a rehash of his comments from the interview quotes released earlier today from another news site.
I was very skeptical at first, but I'm starting to open up to the possibility that SG could have been the main target somehow:

This seems promising. I thought maybe it was a typo, but the link rephrases it and it's clear that the gloves were found AT the house, not just random ones that were found discarded off the side of the road.
I believe the ransom is unrelated to the original crime and just sick opportunists taking advantage of a chaotic and sad situation, but I can understand and respect that if you believe the events are related, the criminal(s) could be sophisticated.

Sometimes there is just a mixture dumb luck for the criminals and incompetence on the law enforcement. Richard Allen of Delphi evaded capture for five years and darn near got away with it if not for a persistent volunteer.
I think this is very likely. In the Jayme Closs kidnapping case, they ended up arrested an unrelated creep who'd broken into the house to steal her underwear.
