Father of missing Skelton brothers charged with their murder to appear in court -- What to know
New charges filed two weeks before scheduled prison release
ADRIAN, Mich. – The father of the missing Skelton brothers, charged with their murder 15 years after they went missing, is expected to appear in court on Monday.
John Skelton was charged with murder and tampering with evidence on Nov. 17. He remains lodged at the Lenawee County Jail on a $60 million bond.
The charges -- three counts of open murder and three counts of tampering with evidence -- were filed Wednesday, Nov. 12, roughly two weeks before he was scheduled to be released from prison.
He was initially scheduled to be released from the Michigan Department of Corrections on Nov. 29, 2025, almost exactly 15 years since the boys were last seen.
If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in jail.
Skelton is expected to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 24, for a probable cause conference. This type of hearing is typically procedural, held before a preliminary hearing, during which a judge reviews the case and determines whether there’s enough evidence for trial.

The three boys were 9, 7 and 5 years old when they disappeared from Lenawee County in November 2010. The boys were last seen with their father.
John Skelton had spent time with the boys over the Thanksgiving holiday amid a divorce and custody dispute with their mother, Tanya Zuvers.
He was supposed to return them to their mother on Black Friday, Nov. 26, 2010.
Police said they tracked John Skelton’s phone leaving his Morenci home and traveling about 25 miles southwest into Ohio before returning to Morenci.
When he failed to return the boys and did not provide clear information about their whereabouts, Zuvers called the police.
Federal and state law enforcement agencies have carried out massive searches across Michigan and Ohio.
For more than a decade, there have been more questions than answers in the disappearance of the three Skelton brothers.
John Skelton claimed he gave the boys to an underground group to protect them from their mother, alleging abuse by Zuvers, who denies the claims. Over the years, Skelton’s story has changed, sometimes mentioning the Amish as the group, but no such group has been identified or come forward.
Police said they believed Skelton was holding back information.
A judge declared the boys dead in March of this year, but stated there wasn’t enough evidence to prove they were murdered at the time.
John Skelton was sentenced in 2010 to 10-15 years for unlawful imprisonment. The earliest time he could have been paroled was 2020. He was denied.
To this day, the three boys have not been found.

Judge delays Skelton murder case as attorneys review evidence in disappearance of Morenci brothers
Defense attorneys say they need more time to review a large volume of discovery. The next hearing is now set for Dec. 17.

According to WTOL 11 sources and court filings, investigators have spent the past two years re-examining the case. As of Monday morning before court, authorities had not disclosed what evidence has emerged, but Lenawee County prosecutors say it was sufficient to bring open murder charges - a category that allows jurors to consider a range of homicide counts.

Preliminary exam date set for Skelton brothers' murder case
John Skelton is accused of murdering his three sons, who vanished from his care in 2010. Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton have not been seen or heard from since.

The boys' father, John Skelton, appeared in court by video call from the Lenawee County Jail for the hearing on Wednesday. The judge set aside 10 days for the preliminary exam, set for May 11 at 11 a.m. WTOL 11's Melissa Andrews has followed the case for years and was in the courtroom for the hearing.

I think the timeline would not work- dad's whereabouts are unaccounted for for a period of time (hours IIRC), but that would be a 1300+ mile round trip.This just popped up on my FB feed. It's a long shot, but maybe?

Yes, but there is only one day between their last sighting and being reported missing AND in that time his vehicle was spotted along the Ohio/ Michigan border.

Wow. It’s a possibility if they left around 9-10am on Thanksgiving day and he hauled it. Seems very random though, and maybe not ultra likely since it’s so far from MI 
I’ve seen some people on social media putting forth other possibilities of who it could be, I think there are some other missing children/parental abduction victims that may fit? Hope the poor children will be identified soon regardless.
So gross that John still refuses to admit what he did with his boys. How could you still refuse to admit what you did after this long?! It’s not like continuing to clam up about it is keeping him out of prison.

MSP Lt. Rene Gonzales told 11 Investigates the agency’s cold case unit has been in contact with Memphis Police Department and does not believe the remains belong to Tanner, Alexander and Andrew Skelton based on the timeline of the boys’ 2010 disappearance.
