I may be barking up the wrong tree here...but I think the reason they're putting so much effort into finding her is due to funding. Big cities, I would think, don't have the funds to put all this on 1 missing person. Smaller towns, where hardly anything ever happens, I would imagine *might*...

I didn't think of that. I have not been in the area for 2 years (we've since moved), but I don't see how it would hurt anything to return for a "how are you?" visit...they are only about 20 minutes away. I will discuss with husband and update.
