The Sidebar - Harris Trial #3 *VERDICT - GUILTY*

I don't think defense attorneys care about their client's guilt or innocence . It's a comforting myth that a defense attorney only defends clients he or she believes to be innocent. Many believe in the system that all accused deserve a spirited and effective defense, but that doesn't mean they...

    TRIAL - Ross Harris #1

-(BBM) The opening statements are not testimony. Kilgore can say whatever he wants in the statement, that doesn't mean anything until the actual testimony comes. So I will reserve opinion on that topic.

    TRIAL - Ross Harris #1

And backed into a space at work, without a back up camera in the car, so he would have had to turn his head, and he would have seen Cooper.

Is there anyone that believes Ross is innocent?

I haven't been here since Arias, either, but I'm happy to be back. I have a problem with believing his innocence in three places: first, the incredibly short time from leaving Chik-fil-a and parking at work. If it had been 15 or 25 minutes, long enough for driving-zombie to kick in, I could...

CO - James Holmes Trial - *Penalty Phase* #4 - LWOP

What matters is that he is convicted.

1997. And only two people have been sentenced to death since then (back in 2007 or so)

CO - James Holmes Trial - *Penalty Phase* #4 - LWOP

Not all families wanted DP - a DP comes with multiple automatic appeals, and would take 20 - 30 years and cost millions.

I suspect the mental illness played into this verdict very heavily.

Wow. I wonder what the split was.

As I understand it: if they signed Form #1 - DP, #2 or #3, LWOP, right?

I read somewhere it'll be more like :15 after the hour, like with the guilt phase verdict.

Vodka. Definitely Vodka. But my boss would object

I doubt it. The 'biggee' was the guilty verdict - the families are reportedly split and conflicted on the DP- some want it. some do not. I think mostly they cared about getting him convicted. So if they didn't outburst then they're not likely to outburst now. And the crazy lady from closing is...

I agree: this Judge has been great. I would love to see him elevated to the Supreme Court. I understand this is his first DP case! He has handled it so well. And Brauchler - man. So poised, so deliberate, so unflappable. I don't really care which penalty he gets, since they're both the same...

Just want to say how much I appreciate the existence of Websleuths. It is so wonderful to be able to come here (even if I just mostly lurk) and hang out with others following these cases. The great internet community.

Since it was all one trial, hard to imagine. If anything is overturned it wouldn't be the conviction just for the deaths, it would be all of the charges. And then probably either a commutation to LWOP or a new trial (again, hard to imagine). The other sentences are more of a formality.

90 minutes to go. (Last I heard it was 5:15 Mountain, not 5)

I agree. There's a temptation to blame the family but not in this case. They've shown show much dignity throughout this unlike certain other's well all know and loathe.

This quickly, I feel confident that the verdict is death. Especially as they reached a verdict so soon after watching the graphic crime scene video
