And SYG is a law.
But "Follow Your Ground" is not.
And SYG is a law.
haha..well, I didn't find anything addressing an arrest v. custody under SYG, but that's probably because it doesn't matter
By defining “criminal prosecution” to include the arrest, detention, charging, or prosecution of the defendant, the statute allows for an immunity determination at any stage of the proceeding. Created to eliminate the need to retreat under specified circumstances, the statute authorized the immunity determination to be made by law enforcement officers, prosecutors, judges, and juries. In enacting the statute, however, the legislature did not restrict the time frame for determining immunity, but rather provided a time continuum stretching across the entire criminal process.
~Reagon v. Mallory
So it looks like just by detaining GZ and taking him into custody the night of the shooting, SPD triggered the immunity provisions.
Thanks for your help
No doubt EMS would have given him pain medication and possibly even something to treat panic. I did see him wobble and lean against a wall when they brought him in to SPD. He also had trouble getting out of the car.
Not for long...:moo:

Well, well, well I see I was away for 3 hours only to come back to a "new" friend who has suddenly came forward after all this time to claim he has seen photographs of what Zimmerman looked like after he was beat to a pulp. Hmmm, wonder why it's taken him almost 2 months to come forward? As was the conversation for days and days and days about the credibility of Trayvon's little girlfriend, just exactly why didn't this man come forward in the days immediately following the injuries or seeing the photographs? I guess this friend will be like all of Zimmerman's other friends and associates? A tad bit of over-dramatization???

NO a paramedic would not give you anything without a doctor's orders. They work under the hospital licensure and that of the ER doctors. And, you would be in the back of the bus being transported. You wouldn't walk away.
I was a basic EMT. I could only administer two drugs under doctor's orders. Epinephrin and nitroglycerin. If there was a medic that came onboard I would set up the lines and get everything ready. Medical control had to authorize the drugs.
My son is trained as an EMT, but has not been hired on yet. But he is NOT allowed to give any meds of any kind except for like an epi-pen for someone dying or oxygen. But when he did his ride alongs he was paired with a paramedic. And the paramedic is allowed to give some meds in emergency situations, IIRC.
eta: as said above, the paramedic would be communicating directly with the docs in the ER at the time.
It all depends on the level of the EMT. EMT-Bs are generally glorified ambulance drivers. EMT-Is can sometimes give meds, while EMT-Ps are usually the ones responsible for administering drugs in the field.
ETA: I should note this may vary from state to state.

:moo::moo::moo: IMVHO, HUGE DOUBT that EMS would provide infield medications of EITHER type with a "REPORTED" head trauma! Liability of treating am unseen head trauma EVEN with negative in field neuro assessment would be wicked elevated for the authorizing M.D., most of whom value that itty bitty piece of paper lease:lease: from the State, a license!
ALSO, and this is a "biggie": IF the patient is NOT coming in to the ER/ED for full assessment, providing "prescription-type" meds is VERY risky! AND DEFINITELY falls outside the med protocols (think: step by step cookbook of how to fix a certain medical situation) established by EMS supervising committees.
Again, NOT speaking for ALL med protocols!
PS: if needed, I'm sure some/many EMS rigs carry the good ole "brown paper wicked expensive bag" to assist those presenting with hypervent symptoms!! :truce:

http://fox8.com/2012/04/11/george-zimmerman-charged-with-murder/Meanwhile, Attorney General Eric Holder pledged Wednesday that the Justice Department, which is running a concurrent investigation launched three weeks ago, will conduct a thorough and independent review of the evidence.
I know that many of you are greatly and rightly concerned about Martins death, Holder said a young man whose future has been lost to the ages.
Zahra Umansky, an attorney who represented Zimmerman on 2005 charges of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest after an incident in a local bar charges which were later dismissed recalled he was actively involved in his defense, more so than other youths at that age might be. He was very concerned, she said.
She characterized Zimmerman as having a tendency to not accept what hes told at face value. He wants to take things and find out whats going on. Hes curious, she said.
During a one-on-one interview Wednesday, attorney Mark O'Mara revealed Zimmerman wants to meet with the family of the 17-year-old he shot and killed in February.

I wonder where that investigation stands at this point?
The bolded portion shows the 'inquisitive' side of GZ....I wonder if he will aide O'Mara with his own defense...He appears to be a knowitall....or wants to be in control of things...and it appears that fateful night with TM he wasn't in control....which is another reason this went as far as it did....
I meant to mention earlier when you all were speaking of GZs first appearance at his arraignment...
Did you notice what he was doing with his eyes..and when he saw O'Mara, how he looked up and down really quick...Is this supposed to be reflecting his alleged PTSD? The rapid eye movement...and it appears as if he was sizing up O'Mara...weird to say the least...:maddening:
