Welcome nyvictoria! I have manners, I really do! (I am trying to clean my house as my MOTHER is coming tomorrow and also trying to read, research and post... I know...I am nuts lol...but mostly we are all nuts here....nuts of the INTELLIGENT KIND! eh peeps???)

Anyhow, big websleuth welcomes. Jump on in!

As long as LE has not named a POI and has not cleared anyone, it's all up for discussion within the TOS. Yes we should be empathetic to them because they are in sense a victim in this. But you first have to determine if they are a victim or not. The Sheriff has not given us that yet. What happens to crime victims is much more horrible than what their family is going through. Tearing their life apart is just the way it is in an investigation. You can bet LE is doing that and more.

Crimes are dirty and nasty. What the vics go through is dirty and nasty. I don't know how clean and purty you can keep a discussion about it. Solving crimes is not about putting on rose colored glasses and thinking positive thoughts and topping it off with a shiney bow. The only thing that matters is finding out what happened and you can't do that without the truth. IMO, the hurt, embarrased and offended feelings of a crime victims family is trumped by what happened to the crime victim.

I couldn't agree more!

I personally try to only focus on the aspects of the case that interest me, therefore don't participate in any of the discussions of their personal life as it does not interest me. I actually thought it was horrible when LA was being accused of fathering Caylee, and chuckled when that bit of info in the dna came back and bit some of the posters in the butt.
Anything they say or do as related directly to the case is fair game, but a lot of things being said really overstep the boundaries IMO! Then again, I'm the kind of person that stops even my best friend if she is relaying something she heard. I always just say "you know, I don't want to talk about this. If they wanted me to know, they would tell me themselves". Works like a charm.

The topic of LA fathering Caylee was a legit topic of discussion as long as it was brought up in the media, and the claim of sexual contact came from Casey herself. Heck, even LE had a question about it because they ran the test. The fact it didn't pan out doesn't make the previous discussion any less important than it originally was. It merely makes you right this one time. So yipee, you got it right. If we pick and chose what can and can't be discussed, we might miss the one thing that's the key to solving a case. But everyone sleuth's differently. It's not about being right or wrong for me.

It seems like lately the discussions are turning into about whether or not something should be discussed than actually having the discussion. I really don't want to see things go down that route. :blowkiss:

I don't think people have a full understanding of WS. We are a crime sleuthing community and not a social blog-type site. This means we delve into crimes in every way, shape, and form in an effort to find the answers to bring justice to the victims and families.

We work cases from beginning to end and study every piece of the puzzle. This includes analyzing families, perps, scenarios, evidence, and everything else to bring resolve to true crime victims. It isn't meant to be pretty or selective. It includes a good amount of speculation and theory in order to come to certain conclusions. (LE does the same thing, but they have better tools and all the inside information. ;) ) We don't and should not overlook things because it isn't socially acceptable or because people would rather us not get into their "business". (I don't know of many criminals who appreciate people in their "business"!)

We do many other things like stare at dead faces in morgues to try to figure out the person's true identity to bring them home to their family by going through every available route. We help with fliers, searches, and support the people who are actively on the ground in certain cases.

WSers are a special group of people who come together to share what they can to further Justice. I am proud of what we do and how we do it! We have a great group of people here who find working together is rewarding and challenging every day. I think we do make a difference.
