What happened to the Taures LP bought them? That was a nice car...I saw HC filling it up one day.

nothing that i know of. but if hank has no money, theres none to pay for gas and tags and insurance and such to use it to get to classes. no public transportation would make it nearly impossible to get ahead.
i was not implying he did not have a car just that no money means its a great deal more difficult than one would think to get help.
i was no longer able to work at the age of 27. i had to work hand to mouth jobs before that due to a disability. there was never a chance to go to school so when i no longer was able to do any sort job requiring physical exertion i had to turn to the system for help.
its a lot harder than most people think.
and sorry i did not notice ur first post till today or would have explained before.

I would concur that learning diabilities may come into play with anyone. As I say, I do have sympathy for Hank Sr, he's against a hard wall. However...it seems like darn near everybody in the family has a criminal record. I have no sympathy there. Maybe it's just me, but when it comes to the Croslins I smell a level of grift that's pretty strong.

At this point, I think the all the Croslins, including the grandmothers should just say no comment and also stay off of NG and related shows.

There is no public bus service in some areas of FL, like up North or a big city. We have a bus that picks up the Senior Citizens and that is it. I lived up North when I was young and took 2 buses to get to work everyday, until I could afford a clunker and insurance. I didn't get that until I was in my mid twenties. Hank won't be able to even get a bus if he gets a job.

I can't read anything into what Hank said. He is illiterate and his grammar is not what it should be for an adult. For me trying to read into what he was trying to say and what he actually said is just that. Misuse of proper wording and sentence structure.

Absenting all of the personal things about how it has affected he and his wife, I believe Hank was saying, I don't believe my children could have hurt Haleigh. MOO

Yep..MTE

Once he gets the disability claim and checks, he has to wait 15 months before he is eligible for health benefits which $ come out of your check. Hope this gives you an idea of what they are up against.

According to the Medicare website, one has to wait two years before getting Medicare benefits.

http://www.ssa.gov/dibplan/dapproval4.htm

Of course, people 65 and older automatically are eligible for Medicare when they receive their Social Security benefit.

Hank is extremely young, so his battle for disability will be a tough one. The SSA is usually particularly tough on people who haven't yet reached 50, unless their illness is on their accepted disability list which allows for immediate approval. Yes, a social worker or an attorney could advise him.

Yes, dyslexia could be part of their reading problems, but if they didn't bother to have their children checked, again that points to their incredibly poor parenting skills. This is no reason for any of them to have become criminals, however.

I guess disablity is different in every state...it took a year for me to be denied and another year to eventually get approved w/help of a lawyer, so I was at home not working for 2 years before it was approved...very stressful two years I might add. I don't know if Hank has ever applied but without help from someone, it is not easy to do, requires lots of paperwork and patience and if he can barely read/write, it would be daunting.

Actually, Social Security disability would not be different from state to state. It's a federal government program that is handled the same across the country. If you work, you pay into SS. It's not something you can collect instantly. There are rules and regulations, but it can be a done.
But hurry! I understand SS is going broke.

azwriter, Social Security contracts with each state to handle qualifying for disability benefits. That's one of the reasons they have SSA hearings, because people can contest their states decision of "not disabled". It's a rather involved process, but yes, in fact, each state does handle claims for Social Security disability in the initial stages. One files through their local SSA office, and the medical process goes through the state. Strange, but true.

I'm not sure Hank Sr. is disabled. Sounds like he has a bum knee from the accident. Is there something else wrong with him?
