Color me stupid.......but in the motion filed by AL....does she not state in item #4.....that JAC does not allow for travel costs for pro bono counsel??????

Now....according to JAC outlines for 2010 / 2011 here....http://www.justiceadmin.org/ind_for_cost/What%20are%20Due%20Process%20Costs.pdf....travel costs ARE reimbursed.

The key here is that KC retained private counsel that resides in the Orlando area. BUT....given that JB is not DP qualified he can not handle the case alone. AL's travel is in fact eligible for reimbursement (under JAC guidelines). It would appear that becasue Mason has now jumped on board....THAT is what negates AL's expenses.

So...one must ask....did she encourage the addition of CM in order to have a reason to bow out?????

Curious.

Sots, so funny! I posted on the "AL Quits" thread the same and began it with "Color me confused:waitasec:" lol

In fact, Judge Perry specified there were to be no luxuries - fly coach and even went so far to suggest budget hotels, specifying Courtyard by Marriott. I was baffled by it, too.

More good thoughts to ponder.... I'd really love to get to the heart of all the strange changes.

I noticed that JB was using a pen and table today instead of his computer board. I wonder if he has already been called for using it to transfer messages.
On that same note, it has already been noted that JB's assistant was getting phone messages and after waiting a bit, he was writing something down to show ICA who responded back. Is JB trying to slip something by without getting his hands involved?

was this brought up earlier...when KC walked in--was she limping? or did she look drugged? She was walking really strangely, like she was hurt. Is that from the fall?
No and No. She did have a very wide gait however and it did appear strange. I'm not sure if it was a combination of shackles and new shoes or something else. I walked that way when I was very pregnant and the baby's head was very low. That's not the case here but maybe some other female problem??

This "odd" activity has occurred during several hearings. Without being there....we cant prove "messages" were in fact being relayed. In the grand scheme of things........the trial........does it matter? Likely any messages were rather meaningless. JMO

If JB were trying to "slip" things by without his hands being involved.............I suspect that the general public would have received less info to discuss. As as been stated by several parties....."the mere appearance of impropriety"...........me thinks certain parties would have been a bit more cautious.....if in fact they were trying to "hide" anything. KWIM???

I've got to say, I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. I know I've made fun of Baez in the past for how bad he is, but today...I'm not sure he realizes just how bad he really is. My jaw is still open.

I guess I was waiting for the day he would finally get it together and start sounding like a competent attorney. I thought, surely, he's going to to GET IT at some point and actually put something together and actually defend his client.

But no...it seems like he just wants to whine and stomp his feet until he gets what he wants. I literally believe that he thinks if he asks for something enough, he'll eventually wear down HHJP and get what he wants. He's acting more like a kid wearing down a parent than an attorney arguing in front of a judge.

And he brought up the Phil Spector case? OMFG. Baez, you can't be this stupid. No lawyer can be this stupid, right? Please, legal eagles, tell me Baez is just a one in a million rarity, something that is only seen about as often as a solar eclipse. Right?

I am baffled. I am stunned. I am wondering why Casey Anthony is not firing Baez and begging the court for better representation. Maybe that's why she was so upset? Maybe she is finally seeing the writing on the wall here?

And oddly...and I can't believe what I am about to say and it really makes me believe I am in the Twilight Zone. Here goes. Casey...actually...looked...PRETTY...today. I must need meds. Or vodka shots.

But she did look pretty, and I think I know why besides the clean hair and likable top for once - usually when she's sitting there, she has hard look of arrogance on her face, like she is above everyone else and how dare they put her through such a waste of time and trouble. Today, for the first time EVER, that look was gone. She was very upset, but also silent, unsmiling, and still. It's like the wind has been taken out of her sails. Either she knows she's never leaving that jail cell, or her fall out of the elevator is still making her miserable. Maybe that fall made her realize just how not special she is anymore.

Whew. What an interesting waste of time. I'm starting to wonder if Baez is now finally realizing what a lost cause this case is and all he can think to do is beg and plead for anything to help him at this point?

Another question, can an attorney be removed by the judge? I mean, can a lawyer so be so incompetent, or so out of order in the court room that the judge can order him off of the case? Could Jose possibly be trying to get himself tossed off of this case? I just can't think of another reason for such a magnificent display of incompetence as there was today.

Maybe:

AL has stepped aside to ensure KC receives inadequate defense and has a long term strategy in mind of assisting her later if there is a death sentence;

CM thinks KC should plea, as he indicated long before he was involved with her defense, and is encouraging this inadequate defending from JB so KC will wise up and try to save her skin before it is too late. KC seems to have finally realized JB is not the brains of the outfit. I cannot believe CM is as lazy and bumbling as he is making out; he definitely has a strategy IMO.

Your thought makes perfect sense. And to add.........she is always in the courtroom on time and HHBP always begins on time.

Today.........is the first day I recall where JB "went in" to see KC before the hearing. When she walked in I posted that it looked like she had been crying. Perhaps a better description by me would have been "she appeared shaken".

Also...other posts have mentioned that her body language after the hearing also appeared to snub JB. Perhaps she was still upset about the "news" she received.

Thanks Sleuther. I had to take my dog out and missed the last few minutes..

I just lost a whole post I had written in admiration of Judge Perry. I am so mad at myself. Could someone please give me a kick in the pants? Grrrrrrrr.

That's been my take on JB's sudden "emergency" for this hearing. Much like the infamous jail video that he protested high and low, mainly because it seemed to show some questionable contact with his client, he wants these out because they implicate him in a felony. Plus as an added bonus, they completely undermine a huge chunk of his previous (and repeatedly unsuccessful) arguments concerning KC's privacy and the videotapes being the reasons her family cannot see her.

Exactly! That is his only concern. The good thing is that none of the Anthonys can keep their traps shut for long, so all the details of the letter passing will be sent to the Florida Bar eventually... probably by CA/GA when KC is convicted.

I can't get over JB whining about not being available to read the latest letters to KC that were released, because he was out of town. Surely CM was in town to do his reading and could have written a motion to have them sealed. JB complains when he says the state is taking too long to release evidence to the defense, and then in the next breath he complains when he says the state is releasing evidence before he has a chance to read his copies. Uh, JB, you can't have it both ways, bud! *eyerolls*
I think he was also wondering how the letters are evidence...and as evidence how they fit into the criminal trial. Clearly, these weren't the docs he was expecting to see.

I think she is just affraid of falling again.

I also noticed that ICA's behavior was very different today and that she seemed PI**ED! She was MUCH quieter and more stoic sitting in her chair - no flirting behavior today. Also a lot less "grooming" behavior. She really seemed upset at something. There was a lot of jaw clenching and lip pursing as well. Has the seriousness of this situation finally hit her?

And I just LOVE Judge Perry. I almost fell over laughing when he was reminding JB he had other work to do!

But...why did they release them before giving them to the defense? Was it because of George's letter...or because of Jose's passing of letters? Or...did the State feel with the last ruling to release docs before the end of August (it was August, right?) that they didn't need to notify the defense? The State has been pretty good about all this...did LB explain? Could this have been the States tit for tat? They're p.o. that motions have gone to the media before being filed so they release the letters straight away? Any insight would be most helpful. I didn't get the chance to see the hearing. TIA

Ms Burdick did not feel the need to even respond to Baez accusations, because this subject was not even on the docket to be heard today. But, if the appropriate motions are filed, and LDB needs to respond, I'm sure she will have all the evidence that she did nothing wrong in releasing the letters. It is NOT as JB said.

The Clerk's online site says that Notice of Provision of Supplemental Discovery was given (to the Defense) on June 22nd, and amended regarding number of CDs on June 23rd. The public did not get this doc release until Friday, June 25th.

JB had put in notice that he would be unavailable from June 21-25.
It is not the State's fault that nobody checked on this information, when the Defense received it on June 22nd - BEFORE the public/media got it.

EXCELLENT point!!!!!!!!!!! Because now...not only has KC said so (in her letters to another inmate) but the family has confirmed it. Could it be that JB might now face his own legal issues based upon "written confirmation" by BOTH sides that under the radar letter exchanges did infact take place????????

Perhaps his "issue" with the letters is more out of concern for self preservation than violating the rights of his client.

Well done.

BTW........the jail guard SH.......investigated for her involvement in the jail letter exchange.......has been officially FIRED!

BBM...Don't forget Brad Conway also stated in interviews that Baez was in fact facilitating communication via letters. That makes KC the A's and an "officer of the court" that have stated the same.

JMO...I believe any member of the bar has an obligation to make a report to the bar for improper acts, especially FELONIES. So I guess it could be any member of the SA's office, Conway, the Judge, any other council on the defense, etc...
