2011.05.24 - What was the biggest shock on the first day of the trial?

Most shocking for me

the explicit sexual act of abuse suggested by JB for sheer shock value. To my knowledge, ICA has only written in a couple of letters that she thought, maybe, her dad messed with her when she was little.

Suddenly we have JB insinuating a very specific act in his opening statement. I am wondering if this is all just smoke and mirrors made up by JB to elicit sympathy or if ICA has actually made that specific claim to her DT.

I am watching/listing to GA's testimony as I type but have not watched the video of JB's opening statements for myself yet. Getting ready to watch that next.

Respectfully, I don't understand why so many people are shocked and bothered by the 'p' word. A 'p' is a 'p'... it's the anatomical/proper word for that 'part' -- It's not a 'dirty word'. Baez didn't use some nasty slang word, he used the word a doctor would call it. Why is that shocking and inappropriate? I'm not defending the DT, I just think the hoopla surrounding that particular word is uncalled for.

You are correct. At one time I was a volunteer at a rape crisis center, and one of the things that was the hardest for our victims to say in the court room were the words that were said during the attack or to use the appropriate words when telling the judge/jury of the assault. This was many years ago way before the language and what all is shown today on TV programs. So I don't find the use of the "p" word shocking at all.

Sometime sit in on a trial if you can. You will be amazed at what happens in a courtroom.

I think, after pondering this all afternoon, that the most shocking thing I heard today was Baez insinuating that George or Lee is Caylee's father, and that they tried to keep her hidden like a "flower in the attic". The reference is here to VC Andrews' The Flower in the Attic. It's about a brother/sister incestuous relationship. He also says that the proof of this will not come out due to the "way the investigation was handled". UNbelievable!!!

I have to agree with you TH - the one thing that was just astonishing to me was the line in JBs opening about Lee Anthony and when Lee was asked if he was the father and Lee's answer was That will be discussed when it is appropriate.........leaving the subtle idea that Lee is Caylee's father. But if I am not crazy, and believe me after this case I may actually consider myself such, wasn't there evidence that he was definitely not the father? I thought DNA was done on them and it came back that Lee was not the father.

Or am I crazy already?

it was stated in opening statement (not considered evidence) and he has not been on the stand yet


he was only accused in opening statements (as was everyone else in the entire northern hemisphere)

I agree with you so if your crazy that makes two of us. I think GA did not answer the father question to keep an innocent person out of all this maybe.

Bringing RK into this is a bit of a surprise also. I don't see the purpose of dragging RK into this so much. RK had nothing to do with either a murder or an accident.

I am still in shock over the Roy K thing .. and him supposedly having Caylee's body ... and the HUGE cavernous GAP of when George supposedly scooped Caylee's lifeless body out of the swimming pool, then did WHAT with her???? Left her out on the curb for Roy K to pick up and dispose of? RK being a complete stranger to the Anthony family!!!

And Baez thinking the jury is going to believe that Inmate Anthony asked her molester father to help her, and George did .... and just leaving the story to trail off from there .....

The biggest shock or blooper I found was that they went for the carp of the day instead of the SODDI theory.

How low the defense would stoop- to accuse George and Cindy right in open court with them sitting there, plus the ridiculous concoction of theories- adding in Roy Kronk to the body part...

I also thought they would save the molestation claims for the sentencing phase as mitigation...

Even though it's was a smaller, far less shocking statement than most others, I couldn't believe that JB was claiming that the pregnancy cover-up was all calculated by CA and GA. And then insinuating the reason for the cover-up was that the baby could potentially be GA or LA's. Yet they all suddenly embraced it. GMAB! Makes no sense.

My faves of the Opening Statements today byJB were ( not word for word but you get the context if you watched or heard) "Lee, wanted to follow in his father's footsteps so he decided to start touching Casey but it didn't go so far." What a stretch that is, like Lee if he did it is proud of it. #2 was speaking about George Anthony trying to take his life Bozo said "Unfortunately, uh fortunately, he lived!" :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Oh man...after that beautiful and touching opening statement by LDB, Baez comes along and mucks everything up. It's like he wore muddy shoes and just dirtied up that courtroom. Accusing George so openly in court like that was just over the line. The defense, once again, could have done SUCH a better job, and no, they went with low blows and accusations that they'll never prove. Not ONE BIT OF IT was REASONABLE DOUBT. It was the most unreasonable load of bunk I have ever heard of.

And then I have to flee work and come home to a possible tornado headed my way, which thank goodness, didn't come my way, and now it's all sunshine outside. Oklahoma has the freakiest weather of any state!

What a heck of a day for justice for Caylee, and what a heck of a day for me! *collapses*

Boy, no lie there. especially since GA seems to be low man on the totem pole in that family. I am sure their marriage is having hard times right now, too. And still she stands by him. Speaks volumes, I hope.

I will, however, note that the Anthony statement did not mention the sexual abuse claim, just the death.

And what exactly is JB going to do if Cindy denies the sexual abuse? How would he explain that? Who is Cindy afraid of, in JBs world? What would she gain from lying about that?

I guess I am not completely sure CA is going to support GA on the abuse accusations.
