Re: the hairs in the trunk. Bear with me for a while because I have a stupid question.

Okay, so what we're trying to prove is that Caylee was in the trunk when she was dead and decomposing. Right?

So we need Caylee's hair in the trunk, preferably with the death band, because other kind of Caylee hair could have gotten there in her backpack and other things or when she climbed in the trunk as a joke or as a transfer via Casey handling Caylee and then stuff in the trunk. Right?

So they found Caylee's hair with a death band there in the trunk. Right?

Sooooo... Either Caylee was in the trunk while dead or the hair with the death band got there via transfer from someone who was in contact with dead Caylee's hair. Right?

So can anyone explain to me, what does it matter if other hairs were found there? I assume that there could have been lots of hairs in that trunk in, say, May 2008 and June 2008 and any other point in time. Jose Baez did kindly explain that it was an old car and even if meticulously kept, hairs are shed all the time.

But we do not require for the trunk to have been surgically sterile for Caylee's body to have been placed there, do we?

So why does it matter if there were 12 or 17 hairs there?

I`ve been wondering the same.

And sure, there may have been animal hairs, they had dogs. Or are they looking for evidence of dead squirrels? You`d think they want to keep quiet about those stories.

It doesn't because of the other trunk evidence coming in.

Baez fired a shot over the bow of the boat by suggesting the trunk was old and not well kept so it could have been anyone's hair.

SA was a quicker draw - she fired back in cross that when ICA's defense team examined the trunk, unlike the Crime lab techs, they did not wear hair nets, only gloves.

PS - hairs are just hairs unless they have a death band - one of them did - and it was identified.

Scores: LDB: 9/10 JB -5/10

I missed the great CM in action today, so I just watched what y'all have been discussing. The "I'm over here" comment. All I can say is :laughcry:

The entire DT hates anyone who has respect for the jury and speaks to them directly!

It is an oft used trial tactic for Prosecution witnesses to address the jurors when answering and not so much during cross.

It's a subtle way of saying to jurors that the witness has prosecution info that is helpful for jurors to understand, and that the DT not so much.

I really believe that the oNLY reason JB called it out with YURI, is because he had in fact read it here.

We are his BEST guage of temperature and he needed to cool YURI down a bit.

We all saw JB cross Yuri in pretrial hearings.......JB did not like the attitude shift and quizzical looks...thus he tried to make him look bad by pointing out that Yuri had been trained that way. YURI was clear in his agreement and thus demonstrated....he wasn't hiding anything.

JB gambled and lost on that little exchange.

Completely and utterly off topic.

May I just say I love our little group here :grouphug:

It's like watching this trial in a room full of a whole bunch of people. I absolutely love what everyone has to offer. It's all different, which is what makes it so great :)

That is all ....

ITA! I told my DH last night that "me and my WS friends" have been waiting for this trial for almost 3 years and he just rolled his eyes at me....Although this is from a college graduate who still calls a "viaduct" a "viadock". :floorlaugh:

I agree with you. The point jose was trying to make was the CSI people were sloppy. Look they missed all these hairs after they went over the car 12 times and vaccumed it, what else did they miss?

Yeah, I get that... But imo it works a bit against the defence as well... If they were so sloppy but yet they managed to find all this evidence against Casey it doesn't mean that the present evidence that they did find means nothing, there is no evidence against Casey and Casey is innocent, does it? It could mean that there in fact was a lot more evidence against Casey and things would be worse for her if they'd just done a better job.

The defense is going to challenge the conclusion that the hair came from a dead Caylee. They will say that the death band is really, um, something else. And they will say that the mitochondrial DNA test only narrowed the owner of the hair down to Casey, Caylee, Lee, Cindy, Rick P, Shirley P, and oh BTW a large percentage of the population as well (which is true, although the death band hair also matched Caylee's hair in its microscopic appearance).

Then they can say that the presence of a hair from an alive Caylee and/or from any random person in the trunk is meaningless, because hair would have been shed all the time by almost anyone putting anything into or taking anything out of the trunk.

Regarding the hairs, is the DT wanting to know if one of the hairs is George's perhaps? Or maybe one of the hairs is Roy's?

IIRC, he said early on that KC wouldn't let him near the trunk, that she insisted on getting the items herself.

Yep she went and got them and then said to George here's your *advertiser censored**in gas cans. what a nice Daughter.

My favorite witness this morning was the Femaie Detective that CM was cross examining.

Result:
Female Detective - 10/10
Mason: Mincemeat

:great: :floorlaugh: :great: .....Priceless!

And she reminded me of Julia Roberts to boot.

I loved all the LE witnesses. They were very polite, looked at the jury, gave great answers, would not be intimitated by the DT, stuck to thier guns. I esp liked the last guy. Gave one word answers, very proud of what he does...takes his job serious.

Whoever is teaching them how to be a witness is doing an outstanding job. I just love that they all spoke to the jury dispite the temper tantrums by jose and mason.

Absolutely agreed. I can barely stand to watch CM cross. I'm wondering if it's some type of tactic. But I tend to think otherwise because of his previous performance in Court. He's got a way about him (and it isn't pleasant) He comes across as so condescending.

I'm surprised his wife has put up with him for all these years...there must be something good about him...but I've never seen it.

The bag was being used for a phony purpose to begin with, had no more purpose for that, and it probably stunk and absorbed odors from the car.

Also: Did anyone else notice Casey's mannerisms this afternoon toward Baez during a break? They were standing there, Casey talking and motioning with hands. It looked like she kept trying or actually touching his hands. He had both hands on the back of a chair, and quickly moved one hand away from hers then grabbed papers off a desk a few seconds later.

Link?

I wanna see!!

ITA. Extremely so. His case is going down in flames, and he's talking to media people? About what? Still trying to make a buck or trying to salvage his reputation? Shouldn't he be more worried about that needle practically sticking out of Casey's arm? What an a$$hat.

Kathy Belich is one of the few reporters that has fought for truth in this case. She has been a pitbull with the defense this whole time, the only reporter holding their feet to the fire. I am going to trust her and her judgment, not someone representing a silly, sensational, celebrity magazine.

And great to see you, SOTS! We missed you this morning!
As we saw regarding the videos, his ego supercedes everything. Worrying about what the As are saying about him, and making that big fuss...
If I were KC I'd worry about that. He should be focused on his client and what he can do to mitigate her behavior on those videos. Clearly, he wasn't focused on that.

:loser:

I just saw that clip on the local news
I heard Transcript to a Sidebar....I stopped what I was doing and rushed over to the TV....
Now of course we will be re-reading Amy's depo to try and see if there actually was conflicting statements..

IMO I doubt it...and IMO Casey (with the help of Baez and Mason) wants to get back at Amy..Amy became the enemy when she filed charges against Casey for stealing and agreed to prosecute..... this is an opportune moment for ICA to try...
:twocents:

And don't you just know that it pizzes her off royally that Amy has a life and is able to fly to Barcelona while she is all alone in a jail cell with nothing to keep her company but her own twisted thoughts!

I don't think it should matter either, but JB can possibly use this to imply someone else was involved in putting Caylee's body there. How? Beats the hell out of me! On the other hand, Baez seems to be implying there never was a dead body in the car though!

No - I don't think he is trying to deny it - but how Caylee got from George carrying Caylee to her being duct taped, bagged and put in the trunk and then somehow Kronk is mixed up in this as putting the body out on Suburban so he could find it because Kronk is morally bankrupt and wanted the reward money is all very hazy....
I think Mr. Baez ran out of time when he was composing his opening statement the night before the trial began. So we ended with George screaming at ICA your mother will never forgive you and ICA crying.

I don't think he's written the next chapter yet.:innocent:

Keeping Caylee's body in the spare tire well is making more sense to me now.

She made a point to tell people that she had a flat tire, more than once. It's like her dead squirrel story as a cover for the smell.

Dead squirrel = smell
Flat tires = no tire in the wheel well, only Caylee. I wonder if they found a spare tire anywhere?
Thanks! That didn't even occur to me.
