Whoa! JB is not doing his case any favors objecting to this testimony. Wonder how the jury is taking CJBP's clear frustration with JB?

I'm wondering that too. Surely it's not being lost on them.

Saturday someone tweeted that the jury smirked when HHJP spoke sternly to JB.

I must say, JB seems to have a personal hatred for Vass. His disdain is apparent.

This is really fascinating (and I may never eat again )

I think he will be a key witness both because he is so knowledgeable, and because he will confuse the defense attorney beyond belief.

Say what now?...........lipids and carbohydrates?...

JB must have a read an article on interrupting the flow of witnesses. He is really good at it!!

She made a strange face when he mentioned the "bloat stage". I'm assuming Caylee was in this stage when she was bagged.

Stages of decomposition

Early Stage:
Autolysis - self digestion. Cells continue metabolizing after the death. One of the byproducts of metabolism is CO2. Usually removed by cells by circulation & respiration, but if those cease after death, CO2 builds up inside cells. CO2 is acidic. Lysosome is an organelle inside the cell is surrounded by a single membrane. Because the cell is becoming acidic, the lysosome is among the first structure to break down, and the enzymes inside it begin digesting the cell from the inside out. This is autolysis.

Interior of cell liquified is nutrient-rich. Surface of the skin becomes loose and sloughs off the body. The nutrient rich fluids give the body a moist appearance. This allows second major decomp stage to begin.

Unbelievable. I just saw CM whispering to Baez before he just spoke! I have a feeling CM is "helping" Baez with these objections.

Oh Oh - Skin slippage and loosen as the blisters ruptures and the liquid comes to the surface = putrification.....

Dr. Vass is describing the outward appearance in the very early stages of decomp.
I wonder if someone is having flashbacks.

It is my uneducated guess that the defense is undergoing the bloat stage of decomposition.

He uses his hands a lot, to emphasize certain points. Captivating testimony. Clearly, he's a professor.

IMO Baez is getting these objections on the record for future appeals.

Dr. Vass said he 'likes a challenge' good thing because he is going to have to be able sustain his thoughts in spite of JB's constant objections to disrupt his train of thought. Grrrrrrrrrrrr...

putrifaction is the next process where other things feed on the fluids (from the skin, surroundings etc)...

Vass is talking about skin falling off bodies as decomp sets in. Jurors have their "poker faces" on -don't look phased by this morbid talk.

Dr. V saying that when an organism dies the cells do not realize this and continue to function and they give off CO2 which is acidic. The CO2 builds up (the acid). One structure in a cell is called a lysosome. It is surrounded by a single membrane. Because the cell is becoming acidic the organelles with a single membrane burst first... so the cells begin to digest themselves. This is auto digestion and blisters form on the skin. The cells are now liquid so you see skin slippage.

He is so good. Not boring to listen to, explains it so we can understand, but is not condescending at all!

It's disgusting that society is inadvertently educating ICA on the State's dime. She is getting a very good education for free in both law and forensic science...

JBs just pizzed because he's lost in the 8th grade biology lesson.

Loving DR Vass he not getting phased with dt shenanigans jb interupting him to throw him off his testimony

What i dont understand is he has 20 years in this area and JB saying he not qualified to speak about it wtf
