The Witness answers flies pick up on individual molecules of the air. Changing the compounds in the air you'd have to replace every single attractive molecule for a fly to not hang around. Witness should just answer yes or no because he is skirting the truthful conclusions JA is making.

The only problem with JA's question here is that he doesn't know what chloroform would do, but, because there's no research on it, it certainly doesn't mean JA's assumption is correct either. JMO, though.

I *think* there may have been a study on what chloroform in high concentrations does to other insects but as it was not addressed in direct he cannot bring it up... MOO
