This is an extremely learned man. He has more degrees and years of experience than I've been alive and I'm middle aged. Just because he was called to testify by the defense doesn't mean he shouldn't still be highly respected.

Agreed. Let's see what he has to say, and not look at his wrinkles. He is an accomplished and learned man, and has been published a multitude of times. I also belong to the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) and AMT. Not required of non-doctors, but encouraged, are numerous annual CEs (Continuing education.) One receives a plethora of literature with updates. I feel quite sure he has kept abreast of advances in his field. He may still use a paper notepad, and not an iPad, but he is very erudite.

I am enjoying hearing his history and credentials. He has a wealth of experience, much of it historical. He is someone I would go hear speak on pathology, outside of a courtroom of course!

I haven't been able to be here on the Trial or Sidebar threads the past 2 days. Nobody told me there was going to be a party!

Did the invitation specify it as BASHFEST, June 2011?

The party is officially over now. Lights out. All the trash has been taken out to the dump. You'll notice a few of those who were partying particularly hard will not be around for a couple of days.

It is obvious we have allowed a LOT of leeway in these threads - extraneous posts, chit chat, etc... and moderated with a very light hand. There were at least 4 mod requests and reminders posted by different mods in yesterday's threads. Completely ignored. Consider the emergency brake thrown.

This is the deal: Any ridiculous, insulting, childish, petty bashing and/or name calling posted today will result in a 3 day Time Out. So, if you choose to post it today, you will not be participating on Monday and Tuesday.

I'll go ahead and anticipate the "Can you clarify what is considered bashing?" Here is a good rule of measure: Before posting it ask yourself, "Is this something I heard or would have said myself while in Jr. High School?" If you even think the answer could be "yes", you can be sure it does not belong on any thread in this forum.

JB's witness was going to testify to the duct tape placement and how he did not think anyone could say where it had been.

This is what I don't get. I read the autopsy report, where it is plainly stated that the duct tape was over both the mouth and nasal cavity. Are they trying to say it moved during the time the body was in the woods? Even if it had moved, where did it move from? Like, down from her eyes, for pete's sake? Her little head is so small...duct tape around it is duct tape around it, there's no way to make that pretty, know what I mean?

Well, Mason is going all out to make sure the jury knows this guy is experienced, knowledgeable, and has been involved in some significant historical US cases. If you're the jury and you don't know some of Spitz's previous trial testimonies, you are going to be more inclined to respect and believe everything he says (as compared to say Mr. Huntington yesterday).

HOWEVER, if his testimony is inaccurate, biased, or sketchy, Mr. Ashton will have a field day on cross! I think Mr. Ashton is smart enough (and hopefully controlled enough) to do an aggressive cross in a way that comes across as respectful...

Baez started this morning by questioning an expert on testimony that was not submitted to the court in his deposition- surprise testimony.

JA objected. JP was pizzzed and ripped baez a new *advertiser censored******, and said that following the trial he would address baez's contempt of court. JP said that the witness would be excused, deposed this afternoon, and would give his testimony on Monday.

Then CM politely offered his services to inform the jury why the Defensee witness went poof. Not surprisingly, JP declined his offer.
