A pregnant man ?

Me too. I also think this is a beautiful love story. Of course the media bills it as "Man Has Baby" because that sells papers, but I have been impressed with the things I have read about these two. I suspect that, in all the ways that matter, they they are just like the rest of who start a family.

I have one transgendered friend. She has had all the surgeries and does not have any male parts left. She's an amazing woman.

I don't fully understand why many folks are repulsed by transgendered and/or intersexuals. Probably just because it is unusual and uncommon and we Americans like our sexuality wrapped up in nice neat little boxes!!

I wish this couple the best with their expanding brood!

Trans gender is not a blessing; these people go through a lot both emotionally and financially to change their lives.
SO ALL OF US who do not have to go through that ARE BLESSED and should count your blessings.
My issue is not that they have a child and are pregnant again.

My issue is in behalf of their children that will be reading all this stuff on the Internet long before they are emotionally stable enough to make any sense of it. That is not OK with me; and what other children will say to them or do to bully or offend them is not OK with me either.

IMHO they needed to keep this one under wraps. And could have done the book under wraps too.
I imagine this book may support other like minded couples, but for the kids sake it was not thought out very well.

There is nothing in Mr. Beati's life that could evoke hate or fear in me.

This is in reference to anyone who believes what the Beaties are doing is disgusting. It isn't disgusting. They're telling their story. They are unique and have a very interesting story to tell. How is that fame and money hungry?

You don't hear this sort of thing about parents of multibirth babies like the Gosslings who have their own show. How come? Are they not money-hungry or fame-seeking? What about the religious Duggar family who have 17 children? Writing a book and being in some articles and maybe on Oprah and the Today Show do not equate to selling your soul for fame and fortune. Believe it or not, people ARE interested in them. They want to read about them. Why deny others that just because you think it's 'disgusting?'

I think they'll cross that bridge when they get there, just like every other parent who has to protect their child from bullying. I was bullied for wearing glasses when I was little. I still had to wear glasses.

For all we know, they may decide to home school or send them to private school. Again, that's a family decision that we really have not permit to.

It is incorrect...and arrogant....for someone to determine that holding a differing belief on reproduction negates any knowledge, understanding or acceptance of Individuals with transgendered issues.

It's not a matter of differing beliefs. We've said several times, you are always free to believe what you want to.

What I've seen in this thread is offensive. Offensive and down right rude comments DOES lead one to believe the commenter lacks knowledge, understanding and acceptance. It's just plain ignorance.

Or perhaps I'm one of very few commenters on this thread that actually empathizes with humanity.

Very different, glasses are normal things;
This can make these kids stand out in a very hard to deal with way.

Bullying is bullying is bullying, no matter the reason. And there are only so many things you can do to prevent it.

Why don't we let the Beaties handle that when the time comes. Being a transgendered father doesn't make one a bad parent, and it also doesn't make him immune from bullying. I think he'd have plenty to say on the matter.

P.S. Glasses aren't normal when you're a five-year-old. When everyone in your class calls you four-eyes because you're the only one who wears glasses. When knocking them off of your face becomes a recess game. Don't tell me they're normal because I know just how abnormal they can be.

And never will be.

PHOENIX -- He's known as the world's first pregnant man, but he's now facing more controversy.

Thomas and Nancy Beatie now find themselves in the middle of more drama. They must convince an Arizona court system they aren't the same sex, therefore, they should be granted a divorce.

Thomas began testosterone treatment in the late 90s and by 2002, had a double mastectomy and chest reconstruction. He's been a man, legally, ever since.

But the confusion seems to surround the fact that despite his sex-change operation, Thomas kept his reproductive organs.

"What held the judge up is wait a second, he had children, he didn't sterilize himself," Cantor said.

"Did Thomas undergo a sufficient enough change to make him now a male and then, of course, the giving birth part factored into that," Higgins explained.

According to Superior Court records, "it appears, by any reasonable standard, Thomas was the biological mother at the times his children were born."

"Under the dictionary definition of having child-bearing organs, that makes him a female by definition, but that's not the definition that the law looks at," Cantor said.

No amount of surgery can change a person's gender. It's a very expensive costume is what it is.

It sounds like he/she may have still been a little confused as to what sex he/she wanted to be at the time of his/her surgery. Wanted to be a man, but didn't want to give up the opportunity to give birth.

Kinda of an octomom-lets-make-some-money deal.

Maybe a discussion could happen if we leave out the ridicule towards trans people?

No youre not. You're stating your opinion, before and after the article you quoted.

And you know that. why try to be coy about it?

Your opinion is not fact. When you can differentiate between opinion and fact, then maybe there is a discussion to be had here.

I don't think anything suggests that any party involved is in it for the money or their fifteen minutes.

I know that there is a lot of heartache, soul-searching and loss that goes into deciding to change one's gender, fully or partially. Being lucky enough to be comfortable in my own skin, I have no room to judge another's decision to change the way they were born or how fully to change it. As horrible as it is to be born into the wrong body or believe that you were born into the wrong body, it must be worse to be caught in between. Having the desire to birth a child, while feeling that the rest of the female organs don't belong on your body would be a special kind of hell.

You can't change genders and that's a fact. Ergo - there can be no debate about it. There is body modification and that's what this is. Your opinion won't change the facts. :seeya:

I'm not judging, I'm just calling it what it really is - body modification, and Octomom would never admit she was in it for the money. Clearly this person wants to be known as the first (man) to give birth, or she would have had her ovaries removed.

Oh look a trans-specied man.

http://now.msn.com/dennis-avner-the-cat-man-might-have-committed-suicide

Dennis Avner, who underwent numerous procedures to his body in order to transform himself into a cat, was found dead Nov. 5 in his home in Tonopah, Nev., of a possible suicide. The 54-year-old Navy veteran, known to many as "Cat Man," had Native American ancestry (he claimed to be a Huron) and went by his Indian name, “Stalking Cat.” Inspired by a chief who told him to “follow the ways of the tiger,” Avner underwent extensive body modification to appear like a female cat, including splitting his upper lip, surgically turning his ears into points, getting cheek and forehead implants, filing his teeth, as well as numerous tattoos and piercings.

Goodness, this subject has brought the totally uninformed out of the woodwork. :ignore:

The fact that this man committed suicide (if that's what it turns out to be) shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Just looking at his picture shows someone who is clearly not in his right mind. Tolerance aside, what in the world goes on inside your mind, that you think it is even do-able to try to turn yourself into a cat? Clearly, there are some issues going on below the surface, here.

I feel nothing but pity for this man.

This person is a biological female, even though he was advertised as a "pregnant man." Nothing is really unusual about female having children. But the supposed "pregnant man" sure attracted a lot of attention.
