IIRC, initially, much if not most of the public was very supportive of the A's, me included. Those that refused to drink were shunned, denigrated, and accused of all sorts of things.

Imagine if the A's had turned over the info that caused CA to send DC to the woods to LE; Caylee may have been found much sooner. Imagine if the interviews with CA had focused on Caylee rather than distortions and outright lies to cover for KC. I don't think we'd be having this discussion now because they'd still have the public's support.

I've already posted links to the niftermedia video showcase of some of the lies earlier in this thread so I'll add to that this:

Check it out at about 3:45 when CA is told she's hurting the investigation with her lying ways. This segment starts out with her trying very hard to throw JG under the KC bus.

LE was aware of that area and had searched it previously, as had TES. The meter reader tried many times to get LE to research the area. We don't know what, if any, specific information Cindy had so we surely can't know if LE would have acted on it.

Cindy felt she had reason to be suspicious of Jesse, sharing that information with LE is exactly what she should have done, even if she was wrong.

Still watching the video - I wish they'd let her speak.

Other families, at least those that I have seen, did not go on Larry King Live and lie.

I think that whole harboring a murderer bonded out despite the court's intent to have bail so high it wasn't possible had a bit to do with the frenzy too. Media wasn't at their house 24/7 prior to that, iirc.

This reminds me: wasn't it announced that they would be appearing on LKL the day after the remains were found as well? And then someone put the kibosh on it and it was cancelled.

And that decision was a good one; I'd guess BC's. I imagine it was hard to talk CA into it though. IIRC, that one was not set up in advance, it was after the remains found. If that's the case, just that they agreed to do the interview clearly, irrefutably shows the mindset, imo.

Actually, in every single capital case I've covered where the defendant was provided with attorneys, the judge selected the top-notch attorneys from the statewide list of attorneys available for capital defenses. In every single case, they had far, far more skilled representation than if they had hired local attorneys. And in every case, attorneys from out of town were brought in because they had the most experience of anyone on the list.

Defendants in capital cases are not handed off to the next local guy on the public defender list like other defendants facing lesser charges would be.
You're absolutely correct. My father was once chosen to represent someone in a high profile case (which he wanted like a hole in the head) and he was no Joe Schmo. He explained to me that attorneys were on some kinda list that the courts chose from in cases when the defendant couldn't provide his/her own. At least, that's the way it used to be in NYC.

Even though drinking the Koolaid is a popular expression, it ignores the fact that those of Jonestown that actually did drink Koolaid had no choice in the matter, or they did, but knowing that they would then be shot. I'm not certain HOW this expression made it into the vernacular. The current expression indicates a willingness under no duress, ignoring the very real circumstances of the initial situation. It wasn't until the followers arrived at the location that they became fully aware of Jones' nature, and at that point it was too late and they were trapped.

She did that because she viewed the reporters actions as an invasion of privacy during that time. If someone shoved a mic in my face at such a horrible time I'd cut them and their media outlet off for good as well.

Cindy is not an angel, but not everything she has done is bad yet everyone interprets everything as if it were.

The reporter shoved a mic in Cindy's face?? I definitely need a link to that because I've never seen that and I remember that incident well.

Isn't it funny how 2 people can see the same thing and have totally opposite views? LOL.
I think Yuri is demonstrating patience above and beyond. I wish she would let HIM speak.

I'd like to know if what DC said was true...that she was "staff" of ABC. Heck, I'd like to know if ANYTHING he said was true. Sorry, I digress.

I didn't read it that way --- I took it more as she was part of the A team.

Guess I'll have to look at it again, if that was your take. Maybe I'm a bit overboard on CA's ringmaster attitude. Maybe just a tiny smidge. :)

Yikes...think that may need its own thread. However, I do remember it well.

I think CW was joshing aka kidding.

Oh...they have a staff. My bad!

If I remember correctly, CA jumped outta the car went to the vehicle behind her who was the media chick and told her "No more exclusives for you!!!" or something pretty close to that.IMO
Not one of her finest moment either!

No actually, this is one time I'm not kidding. Yuri keeps accusing Cindy of things and won't let her explain herself. I wish he would have, instead he keeps beating her up. I think I would have slugged him.

describing posters in a negative way is just the same as attacking them.

leave the posters out of the discussion. Last warning.

Yes, there's a list of attorneys who are qualified in capital cases and available for those who can't afford an attorney. They don't work for free, but receive state payment at whatever the rate is for those cases.

My point is, though, that every judge I've seen picked not just someone at random from that list but the attorneys with the most skill and experience from the list. They cherry picked the best.

I'm not sure if it's the same everywhere, but where I live even if the court appoints an attorney the defendant gets a bill and has to pay eventually. How they would collect from someone who is sentenced to prison for life is beyond me.
