It would be interesting to know the statistics on how often death qualified juries convict on 1st degree but don't reccommend death vs. the rate of conviction and death sentence.

I was raised believing in our Constitution and hearing stories like this about our justice system is very depressing and upsetting to me. Sometimes I feel too old to live in this country anymore. One thing is sure for me, this world is not my home. I am just passing through.

What I do is just remember there are a lot more good stories out there then there are bad. Stories like the Juanminator, who takes bad people and makes them pay.

Do you guys think the jury will give JA the DP? I think her mother pleading for her daughter's life might save her neck.

I think they will. I'm inclined to believe that the reason they took longer than we wanted them to to come back with a guilty verdict, is that they wanted to go over all of the evidence thoroughly to be prepared for the next two phases. Judging by the emphatic "yeses" each juror gave, I think they were giving Jodi a message that they don't believe her, and are unlikely to give her leniency.

I haven't seen mention of this here so here is what Judge Jeanine said about the death penalty for Jodi on her show:

The judge says NO to the death penalty. Jodi should not roam freely among us. Death is too good for her. She needs to age in jail and watch the world go by through iron bars. She needs to experience the graying of her long brown tresses, the wrinkling of her smooth ivory complexion, the cellulite in those firm thighs that she trapped her victim in, the sagging of her skin above her knees. No, death is too good for her. She needs to rot in jail before she walks in her deserved place in hell.

Verbatim Judge Jeanine's words at the very end of her show

....yeah all awhile having a commissary to buy anything she wants, receive gifts from anyone, have access to TV, a gym, education, health care, library, girl time with her prison buddies including sex with her girlfriend(s) she makes over time, communication with people who can keep her socially active on the outside, and the list goes on......along with being a danger to any human that comes into contact with her such as other inmates and prison staff.

um. no. she needs to DIE. I don't even know who judge Jeanie is, but she is very wrong and knows nothing of this murderess....

we have all learned she is a chameleon and can adapt to ANY situation....she WILL adapt to prison life and that is just not OK with me nor travis' family.

Juries are fickle things, you never know what you are going to get. With the split on the conviction, you can already tell they will agonize over the decision they must come to. I feel tremendous sorrow for them for this decision time and for having to sit there for months and learn of this.

That being said, this was a particularly brutal murder. Clearly from the crime scene photos as much fear and infliction of pain one could possibly cause before the moment of death was the purpose.

Regardless of any reason(s) why (they certainly never heard reasons to push anyone to this point of damage), I think they will ultimately decide DP, if all the jurors are capable of considering it.

It must be agonizing for them these past few days of waiting and constantly thinking about it without being able to at least relieve their thoughts with a talk with a therapist or a loved one.

Thinking of them during this incredibly hard time...........

There wasn't really a split since they all voted guilty of premeditated murder.

or politics. Ppl can bring politics on videos about cats. People who do this have way too much time on their hands. Then again I sit on Websleuths a lot...but I see this as a study of psychology and sociology :snooty

:floorlaugh: I amazed somebody hasn't tried to blame Bush or Obama for what happened to Jodi. Although I was startled to see some of the folks on that other site blaming her conviction on all the Republicans in Arizona.

Huh?

Most of the people I hear pontificating use other people's words. They have no clue what is actually going on in the world, they just take some one else's opinion of something and run with it.

One of the funniest trial moments for me was JA describing her terror when Travis, caught in LA traffic hell, began yelling at other drivers and hitting the steering wheel with his hands.

Is that bad? I do it all the time.

My mom moved in with me a few years ago because she was struggling financially. She is 73 and very healthy still thank heavens. When she moved in I remember thinking about so many other countries and cultures where older people live with their families all the time.

I predict that as the baby boomers grow older here, the U.S. will become one of them.

I bet LOTS of people will have their parents living with them in the next 10-15 years. It'll be more the norm.

My mom lived with me and not for financial reasons (she was still working). I did not want her to live alone, nor did she.

And ONE gas can (5 gallon) would give her 150 miles to find a gas station in the rental that got at least 30mpg

JA knew her car was about to be repossessed, so she wasn't worried about putting a lot of miles on it. Her Infinity held 20 gal. of gas, but the Focus held only 14. Given her financial straits, there's no innocent reason imo for her renting that white car instead of taking her own.

I don't rant when I drive, I ask questions outloud like "Did you get your DL from a catalog"? Where did you learn how to park? Things like that.

Premeditated 1st degree murder across the board is kind of strong. I think there is a very good chance she will get DP.

Well, even normal people who are not planning a murder can see the red car being an issue.

When my husband bought a red truck I told him to be careful because the police notice red more than any other car color. He got 3 speeding tickets within a month. Needless to say, he used the cruise control after that .

Don't they just hate it when their wives are right??
Gotta tell you, I always thought that too but here's the rub.. I had a red Camaro with a racing engine and t-tops for 9 years. At that time, I was a pretty hot chick with long blonde hair and a lead foot. (Now I am an old fart with a lead foot) I was only ever stopped ONCE for speeding - on I-20 in SC - I told the trooper I had to go to the bathroom and was looking for an exit. He "escorted" me to the next exit where I promptly got out and headed for the ladies' room...did not even get a warning. Just saying ya know... :)

My favorite part is STILL the Starbucks Ninja Screwdriver-wielding Skateboarders. Can't help it. Just thinking about it makes me giggle. I re-watched that part of Juan's closing today.

The "hoard of skateboarders." Brilliant. :floorlaugh:

I think the felony murder confused them even though they all agreed it was premeditated. If the choices had just been Murder #1, Murder #2, Manslaughter or Let's Let The Psycho Run Amok, it would have been a 4th of July solid Murder #1 across the board.
