Schloss autopsy data remain secret

SCHLOSS: Police say withholding details is crucial to investigation.

The state medical examiner's office performed an autopsy Monday on the body of Mindy Schloss and called in a forensic anthropologist to assist in analyzing her remains.

State medical examiner Franc Fallico would not release the cause of death or any other information about the findings of the autopsy.

It's crucial to the investigation that the cause of death and other details remain known only by the killer or killers, said Lt. Paul Honeman, an Anchorage Police Department spokesman.

It looks like Joshua Wade and his lawyers will get some more time to prepare their defense. A judge ruled Wednesday that his trial will be delayed until next year. Prosecutors asked the judge for additional time to gather more evidence against him.

Wade has been charged with three federal fraud crimes for using Mindy Schloss' ATM card after she disappeared. His trial was supposed to get under way in November.

Wade was in court Wednesday for the ruling and to hear some of the evidence against him.

Well...I would say it was carp, but if it means they get more of a case...who are we to judge?!

I think they're going to add charges....like the murder of Mindy. He has to submit to a dna test and the article mentions he was caught on 5 dif surveillance cameras the night he used Mindy's ATM card. It seems they have quite a bit on him just with using the car...if his dna matches that found in her car the noose just tightens.

Bill Schloss, the brother of missing nurse Mindy Schloss, tells CBS 11 News that police have informed him that a body found Thursday afternoon in the Mat-Su Valley has been identified, as that of his missing sister.

CBS 11 News will have further details tonight at 10.

Other states in the US, can take lessons in the expediency, and thorough investigation and apprehension of the above named suspect, and locating the remains of Mindy Schloss.

Great JOB AK State troopers!!!

Joshua Wade -- the man described as a "person of interest" in Mindy Schloss' disappearance -- is facing additional charges. Federal authorities say Wade has been indicted on additional charges involving drugs and firearms. The indictment says Wade possessed a .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol in July and August. It alleges that Wade also used and was addicted to marijuana at the time he possessed the gun.

It also says that Wade possessed marijuana inside the Anchorage
jail following his September 2nd arrest for bank fraud. The 27-year-old Wade was Mindy Schloss' next door neighbor. The 52-year-old nurse was reported missing on August 6th. It wasn't until six weeks later that her body was found in Wasilla. Dental records were used to confirm her identity. Wade was arrested about a month after Schloss' disappearance and turned over to the FBI. He was charged with bank fraud for allegedly using Schloss' ATM card.

Police say Wade's DNA also was found on the steering wheel of
Schloss' car. Wade is scheduled to go on trial January 7th on the bank fraud charge.

My husband and i are house shopping and i found a fairly nice house thats a good deal in a neighborhood we like. It turns out the house is Mindy's. Mike (DH) wont' even LOOK at the house... He refuses, even though the house is very well priced, likely because of the highly publicized murder. But I think we should look at it.

Websleuthers, what would you do?

Beth, if you're really interested in buying the house, I'd suggest you view it and see what the feeling or vibe of the house is when you enter it - That's a very strong guide to whether it's a happy house or not - I strongly feel that houses hold memories of what has gone and what is to be...

If your husband is saying no then that may decide things for you, if he would not be happy there...

Personally, I would not want to live in a house with bad associations, and it's fair to say that this does not affect everyone in the same way - Good luck!

Blessings to Mindy and her grieving family...

If you have to talk your spouse into a thing it may keep coming up as a sore spot for years, perhaps when some little thing has to be repaired on the house or when a spot of rough living comes along.

No matter how wonderful the house deal may be it just isn't worth a loss of peace of mind between you two. Better to find a slightly worse deal that you both agree is at least acceptable.

I personally wouldn't hesitate to look at the house and to purchase it if it met my needs. Somebody over the course of time has probably died violently where many of our homes are. Of course, I am not superstitious!

Grand jury indicts Wade in Schloss murder

Joshua Wade could face the death penalty after an indictment handed down in federal court Thursday that alleges he tortured and killed Mindy Schloss, an Anchorage psychiatric nurse whose body was found in a remote wooded area last fall.

The eight-count indictment adds to the charges against 28-year-old Wade -- who was already in jail on other federal charges -- those of carjacking and using a gun to kill Schloss, charges that both carry a maximum penalty of death.

The Murder of Mindy Schloss

When is it that a murder victim realizes that she is going to be executed? At what point does she understand that she— burned, gagged and bound at the wrists, wearing only her bathrobe — is being marched into the woods not just be left, but to be killed and left for dead? Do hope and denial keep her from running or is it fear that paralyzes her?

Wade will plead guilty to the carjacking that lead to the death of Mindy Schloss, and in a surprising turn of events, he will also admit to the murder of Della Brown.

It seemed so clear to Brown's family that Wade killed her in 2000, but a jury wasn't so sure.

In 2003, Wade was found not guilty of Brown's murder.

"The bottom line here is that the prosecution just didn't prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt," Wade's attorney, Jim McComas, said at the time.

Wade got off for the brutal rape and murder which he now says he committed.

February 2010

Joshua Wade tearfully apologized in Anchorage courts Wednesday for murdering two Anchorage women in random acts of violence in 2000 and 2007.

For his confessions, Wade was spared a potential death penalty had he been convicted in federal court.

-----------------------------------

In court Wednesday, Wade hinted he might have more victims.
As Beistline was telling Wade he was "a heartless, selfish human being," Wade, with his eyes still watery from his confession, interrupted the judge:
"Don't push it, man. I don't give a f--- about you. Don't sit there and push it," Wade said.

"I'm going to push it," Beistline responded, and said something about Wade's targeting of women.

"What about the men?" Wade blurted.

"I don't know about the men you've killed," Beistline said.

February 2010

In late June 2007, while Mindy Schloss was planning for her new practice, Wade was released from state probation. About one month after release from state supervision, and sometime around July 22, 2007, Wade moved into 6902 Cutty Sark, the house next door to Mindy Schloss. Wade's bedroom was directly opposite Schloss' home, and his window permitted observation into Schloss' kitchen.

------------------------

At some point during the early morning hours of August 4th, Wade invaded her home. Once inside, Wade bound Schloss, rendering her immobile. Wade left the residence, and returned, armed with the loaded .45 Glock and his collection of restraint and gagging devices. Wade zip tied her hands, gagged her mouth with the shop rag and secured the gag with painter's tape wrapped around her head. The government's investigation revealed that Wade admitted to others that he forced the PIN number out of Schloss in order to use her ATM debit card.

After restraining Schloss, Wade forced Schloss from her home and into her own car with the intent of taking her life. Wade drove Schloss, secured against her will in the back of her car, over an hour north of Anchorage toward Wasilla. During the ride out of town, Schloss lay in the back seat of her own vehicle, clothed in only a bath robe, with her arms and legs bound by zip ties. Wade ultimately drove Schloss to a wooded, undeveloped cul-de-sac approximately one quarter mile off of Knik-Goose Bay Road. Wade parked the car in the cul-de-sac and walked Schloss, still bound, off the cul-de-sac into the woods. There, Wade shot Schloss, execution style, with a single pistol shot to the back of her head from the Glock .45.

Glad to see justice was served. RIP Mindy :(

No offence, but how dumb can people get. If you are going to use your victim's ATM after harming them or worse, murdering them you WILL get caught.

Frightening that he originally got off on Browns murder years earlier and allowed to roam free. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this but reading the following article about Della Brown made me sick.

JOSHUA WADE CAN ROT IN PRISON.

Joshua Wade, who admitted to killing Della Brown in 2000 and was convicted in the 2007 murder of his Anchorage neighbor, Mindy Schloss, has confessed to killing three men, state and federal investigators and prosecutors said Friday. He admitted to the killings months ago as he brokered a deal with prosecutors that allowed him to move from an Alaska prison to a federal facility Outside.

In a lengthy interview with authorities, Wade took responsibility for the deaths of 38-year-old John Michael Martin in 1994, when Wade was 14, and 30-year-old Henry Ongtowasruk in 1999. Both men were mentally ill. Wade also confessed to killing an unidentified man the same night he murdered Della Brown.
