...he said he just lost interest in work, in everyday activities and that his urges were getting closer together and he seemed to be out of control.....MOO, Don't you think after so many years doing this that somehow your brain starts to suffer mentally, studying how to do a crime, what weapon, lying to family, traveling so much, then how to dispose of a body, disposing of a body, robbing banks, then back home with more lies you have to sit and think of to make sure they are believable, trying to act like a "normal" person, trying to be a father....I just feel his mind was in overload and he more or less wanted all this to end soon and personally I feel Keyes may have been involved in some drug activities either selling or delivering...nothing been brought out so far, just all moo from the many roads he traveled and also his going to Mexico several times, he has traveled many places where it is no secret that some are high drug activity areas and also I note his physical appearence, he was known to be in many sports, biking, hiking, and then entering the running races..but he looked so skinny and pale to me, yet this could have been due to all his lifestyle also

It seems it was crowding everything else in his life out, doesn't it? In that sense, it is much like any other obsessive-interest-turned-really-extreme. Maybe he didn't like that aspect of things and didn't know how to stop the progression.

"The feature film "The Frozen Ground" will begin shooting in Anchorage, Alaska on October 17, 2011. The casting director is hiring as many as 45 Alaska actors for speaking roles, as well as several hundred background extras. They are especially seeking state troopers and members of the police department who are interested in acting and extras roles"

dotr, earlier today I sent the director of the frozen ground a pm on fb;

Congrats on your premier..I know that you are very busy today, but if you get a chance, watch the link about AK serial killer Israel Keyes. He may have monitored the filming of The Frozen Ground in Anchorage, AK. Did you by chance see him? He was a carpenter/construction contractor.

" approximately 5,000 Alaskans were interested in working on "The Frozen Ground," which isn't unusual, and Alaska's geographic diversity--as talent comes from every region--is one of the key components to the industry's success. "We run out of time before we run out of people that are excited and enthusiastic. We found talent all across the map," Schildt says.

There's diversity in the needed skills, too. Movies employ more than just actors, although a number of Alaskans have earned a paycheck from their work on screen. "They need carpenters to build sets, they need electricians to light those sets. They need a whole bunch of services that someone needs to provide," Kornfield says.

On any given day, 200 people were involved in the production of Big Miracle. That included prop makers, painters, seamstresses and others. In total, more than 1,000 Alaskans were employed as a result of the film, according to a study done by the McDowell Group"

The movie was good, not great. Suggest watching the DVD release.

Thanx for sharing, puppyraiser. Actually it would be difficult to improve on the Butcher Baker documentary posted a couple pages back, imo.

I am mainly interested in whether IK inserted himself in to the filming process, and whether the movie may in some way have caused him to break his rules by abducting Samantha Koenig, only a couple of months after the movie's wrap...

AUSTIN -- Standing before a packed crowd inside a downtown Austin Omni Hotel ballroom, and surrounded by 200 law enforcement officers, F.B.I. Agent Jeff Bell talks about a high profile serial killer who Bell believes has victims in Texas.

"Anybody who saw him anywhere in Texas we'd be interested in talking with them," said F.B.I. Agent Jeff Bell.

During jail interviews, Israel Keyes admits to at least 11 murders. Keyes is from Alaska and committed crimes all over the U.S. However, agents believe he could be responsible for more murder victims in Texas. Keyes went missing from around February 12, 2012 through February 17, 2012.

"He told us in interviews he made his cellphone go dead, took the battery out so he couldn't be tracked when he was out being bad," said Agent Bell.

Keyes told investigators he rented a 2012 Kia Soul and drove through Dallas, Cleburne, Dinosaur Valley and Glenrose. He admits he was stuck in the mud near Dinosaur Valley.

It would be ironic if IK's rash behavior actually helps the community economically.
Samantha's murder in IK's hometown almost guarantees that another film will be shot there. Could that have spurred IK to either "top" his sk" competitors", or ensure continued film work for the community?

Israel Keyes studied other serial killers but said he didn't pattern himself after other killers, said a police detective.

Deranged Alaska serial killer who murdered at least eight people before killing himself said he saw himself in Ted Bundy and other mass murderers

Investigators have revealed some more chilling details about Alaska serial killer Israel Keyes, who admitted to killing at least eight people before slitting his wrists and strangling himself while in prison.
According to new information released by Anchorage police and FBI investigators, Keys religiously studied the works of Ted Bundy and other famous serial killers, saying he recognized himself in them.
Yet despite his fascination with them, he said that he always took pride in the fact that all of his ideas were his own. Moreover, he never wanted to be referred to as a serial killer.

Authorities also revealed that Keyes told them that he was losing control of his emotions and that the time between his killings was getting shorter and shorter.

‘Israel Keyes didn't kidnap and kill people because he was crazy. He didn't kidnap and kill people because his deity told him to or because he had a bad childhood,’ Doll said.

‘Israel Keyes did this because he got an immense amount of enjoyment out of it, much like an addict gets an immense amount of enjoyment out of drugs.

In a way, he was an addict, and he was addicted to the feeling that he got when he was doing this.’

"I'm nervous. I don't know about everyone else on the street," Jennifer Roberge said.

Roberge lives down the street from the Curriers. She says she wishes she paid closer attention to her dog's behavior the night the Curriers may have disappeared.

"Very unusual," Roberge said. "When she was in the house she kept going to the door and she was just acting really weird."

Police think the Curriers vanished sometime between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday.

But now police want to subject the evidence to some sort of state-of-the-art testing performed at an out-of-state government lab. Acting Essex Police Chief Brad LaRose says the testing is necessary to help them figure out what may have happened to the Curriers. And the select board is backing him up.

"The type of testing done is unique in and of itself. So it's not a situation where another type of testing failed so we have to revert to this. No, this is right of out the shoot we go with the testing on this material seized," LaRose said.

Police say in the early stages of their investigation they subpoenaed Verizon for the Curriers' cell phone records. They didn't get a complete set until September and that's when they discovered a big clue. On the morning that the Curriers were reported missing, police say a call came into Bill Currier's cell phone at 7:27 from his employer at UVM. No one answered that call but it rang long enough that the signal was picked up from a cell phone tower and police say that could be the biggest break in the case.

"This cone here in yellow is the possible area of the location of the cell phone when the connection to this tower was made," Capt. LaRose said.

The address where police are digging is 32 Upper Main Street in Essex. There used to be a vacant home here until last fall, when it was demolished. According to the town clerk the property was purchased in October by BA. Neighbors say it was a known hangout for squatters.

Bill and Lorraine Currier disappeared from their Colbert Street home on June 8. The dig site is not far from the couple's home.

Authorities would not identify the suspect. But a WCAX News investigation over the last several months has led us to the identity of the man suspected of killing the Curriers. His name is Israel Keyes, and we have also learned he owns property in our region.

Sources tell WCAX News that while Keyes was being questioned about the Alaska murder, he told investigators where they could find the bodies of a missing Vermont couple.

Keyes has not been charged with the murders of Bill and Lorraine Currier, but charges are expected.

Police would not comment on whether they believe they have a serial killer on their hands.

Authorities in New Hampshire who are investigating the homicide of Celina Cass are taking an interest in Israel Keyes. Keyes is a suspect in the murders of Bill and Lorraine Currier.

Vermont authorities in charge of the Currier case told to media nine days ago that Bill and Lorraine were randomly targeted, abducted from their home then murdered shortly thereafter. They revealed that the suspect was in custody out of state on another charge -- but they would not say who. Channel 3 confirmed that suspect is 34-year-old Keyes who's in a federal prison in Alaska for allegedly kidnapping and killing an 18-year-old there.

Another neighbor told WCAX-TV that about two months ago he called police after stumbling upon what appeared to be a shallow grave on the property. Tuesday he led an FBI agent to the same spot.

Keyes purchased the property in 1997. People in the area never remember seeing him, but they do remember an Amish family. They say this family rented from Keyes about four years ago -- stayed two months -- and disappeared. No one knows where they went or who they are.

Officials confirm Alaska suspect killed Vt. couple

BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Israel Keyes confessed to killing the Curriers after being arrested for another murder in Alaska. Monday federal and state prosecutors revealed what Keyes told them about why he targeted the Curriers and how he carried out their murders.

Police read a statement from the Curriers' family, thanking the public and the police for their support. The family says Keyes' death ends this chapter in their lives and they are now starting on a new chapter of healing.

The Curriers' relatives will have that chance for closure because Israel Keyes confessed to their killing. Other families may not have that chance, because Keyes committed suicide Sunday in his Alaska jail cell. Authorities believe he took to his grave information about at least five more murders in Washington and New York.

Investigators said Keyes knew many specific details about the Curriers and their home that were never released to the public. They also found Keyes' gun and Lorraine Currier's gun in a reservoir in New York, right where Keyes told them they would be.

Excellent summary, Lucky 1.

In a previous post I suggested Delmar Sample as a possible victim of IK's. I noticed there wasn't a thread for Delmar yet on WS, so I have set one up.

[ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9781487#post9781487"]http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9781487#post9781487[/ame]

I won't repost all of the details on this thread but here is my reasoning as to why I believe it's worth looking into further.

Del was last seen on March 4. He headed out for a weekend in the wilderness. His truck was found abandoned a couple of days later near Lake Quinault, locked with his sleeping bag and food inside.

Rationale:
1) It fits IK's M.O. IK admitted stalking people on wilderness trails or while camping. It didn't matter whether male or female or what age.

2) IK was in the area at the time, visiting local lakes ,etc. According to recently released details from the FBI, IK was spotted camping at a location only accessible by boat on March 1, and also took a day canoe trip as well as frequented the Hoko River in NW Washington on March 12 (parked his truck there). (Was he dumping Del's body?)

3) The bodies of very few of IK's victims have been found, but he did confess to dumping, on two separate occasions, a victim's body in lakes at least one of which was in NW Washington.

4) IK confessed to leaving his victims' vehicles parked away from the crime scene. (Del had told his friends that he was headed to a different area than where his truck was found although he had been known to change his plans.)

5) By all accounts Del's disappearance was surprising and out of character - so foul play is quite possible.

Thoughts?

http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9781487#post9781487

Thoughts?

Sorry to quote myself, but it is too late to edit. I should have noted that the two bodies IK said he dumped in lakes referred to the 2004-2005 perriod, while he lived in Washington. That's what got me focused on this time period. And then, of course, there was the sudden additional details about various boat rentals by IK during the March 2005 time frame.

I can't imagine that LE isn't already looking into Del Sample's case and possible connections to IK. I wonder if they are hoping that these additional specifics will shake loose some extra tips. It's one thing to suspect IK may have been involved. It's another to prove it.

Just finished watching The Frozen Ground movie on pay per view HD 52" flat screen.. I am sure it would have been even better at the theater on the big screen. Although deja vu, for me, imo, it is a very provocative thriller with excellent acting by Nicolas Cage, John Cusack, and Vanessa Hudgens. For it to be Scott Walker's directing debut, I feel that he also exceeded my expectations...imo

One observation or parallel with IK, and RH was the staged/buried kill kit hidden at his destination in the forest by R. Hansen. RH also displayed the lizard like head movements as noted of IK during his many interrogations.

Prostitutes are easy prey for predators such as IK, RH, and many SKs prior, for many obvious reasons. Seems, that I remember Ann Rule stating in the "Green River, Running Red" book that prostitutes were considered the 'less dead' back in the 70's & 80s.. IK was known to frequent prostitutes. Imo, IK would have unknown prostitutes victims. Due to their transient lifestyle, and investigative priority by many LEAs. It is doubtful that the limited resources would have been used by investigators without a body and we all know that IK, had perfected the deviant art of body disposal...

At the end: 'The Frozen Ground movie was dedicated to the known and unknown victims of serial killer Robert Christian Hansen.. Their names, info, and photos preceded the film's credits.. I thought this was a very nice gesture..

Robert C. Hansen raped and assaulted over 30 Alaskan women. He is responsible for the murder of at least 17, ranging in age from 16 to 41. They were:
Lisa Futrell, 41 (acknowledged, body found with Hansen's help)
Malai Larsen, 28 (acknowledged, body found with Hansen's help)
Unknown Jane Doe (acknowledged, body found with Hansen's help)
Sue Luna, 23 (acknowledged, body found with Hansen's help)
Tami Pederson, 20 (acknowledged, body found with Hansen's help)
Angela Feddern, 24 (acknowledged, body found with Hansen's help)
Teresa Watson (acknowledged, body found with Hansen's help)
DeLynn "Sugar" Frey (acknowledged, body found with Hansen's help)
Paula Goulding (acknowledged, body found)
Andrea "Fish" Altiery (admitted, body found with Hansen's help)
Sherry Morrow, 23 (admitted, body found)
"Eklutna Annie" (admitted, body found)
Joanna Messina (admitted, body found)
Roxanne Easland, 24 (acknowledged, body not found)
Ceilia "Beth" Van Zanten, 17 (denies, but suspected because of x on aviation map, body found)
Megan Emerick, 17 (denies, but suspected because of x on aviation map, body not found)
Mary Thill, 23 (denies, but suspected because of x on aviation map, body not found)

Of these 17 women, Hansen has only formally been charged with the murder of 4; Sherry Morrow, Joanna Messina, Eklutna Annie and Andrea Altiery, as well as the kidnapping and rape of Cindy Paulson.

I also watched The Frozen Ground and will probably re-watch soon. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be but I still thought it was decent and interesting. I am glad it was made to bring attention to the dark things that people are capable of, maybe it will help connect other victims to Robert Hansen. I'm not the type who gets scared from "horror slasher movies" because I think they are cheesy but movies like The Frozen Ground based on true events of scary predators scare the hell out of me.

I will admit that I am not as familiar with Robert Hansen but the way he was portrayed in the movie he reminded me most of an "alaskan green river killer", although not as "dumb" as Gary Ridgeway that is who he reminded me of the most but I did see some similarities to IK. I do believe that the movie being filmed in AK inspired IK to commit his crime on Samantha so close to home. I could see how the movie would be a "big production in Alaska" and people would be talking about it and I don't think IK could resist the possible "attention" and "active serial killer hype" if things had gone as planned for him, yes he got sloppy and thank god was eventually caught.

northxnorthwest, the profile prepared by John Douglas & Roy Hazelwood was spot on down to the severe acne and lisp... Criminal profiler Pat Brown and I went around & around on the Women In Crime forum, and that was before I found out that his middle name was Christian..LOL.. The BSU profiled Hansen as being age 40, very Religious, shop owner, and with a family....

I had a couple of very long & enlightening phone conversations with Cindy Paulson around the time of the FG filming... She was a very fortunate victim.

If, anyone get's a chance, rent the 1995 Deadly Run (B)movie by samuel rael/netflix and compare it to The Frozen Ground. According to Rael, who was serial killer gary hilton's defense attorney, gmh came up with the plot and helped write the script for the movie.

"Sound Familiar?

The film called "Deadly Run" is about a serial killer who hunts women he sets free in the woods. The producer of the film, Samuel Rael, says Hilton came up with the plot. For the 1995 screenplay, he says Hilton suggested, "go ahead and let some beautiful women out in the woods and then they could be hunted down like prey."

He even says Hilton helped find a spot for the shoot--a secluded cabin near Cleveland, Georgia. Just 30 miles southwest of the cabin, the body of Meredith Emerson was found, who Hilton admitted to killing in January. Producer Samuel Rael says he was friends with Hilton.

<respectfully BBM for focus>

Yep, Gary Ridgeway, didn't have much of an IQ(80) to write home about, but was able to wear out several green river task forces over 2+ decades. If not for DNA technology advances over the years. He may have never been caught...Identified/arrested 11/2001 due to an FBI CODIS hit..

GR said that there was a good Gary and an Evil Gary...
I'm guessing that Ridgeway's other self must have been of above average intelligence. Ridgeway; a Marine, had honed his skills over the years and was very calculating, deflective, creative, and manipulative.. Although he passed two polygraphs and was a prime suspect early in the investigation. The innocent victim total kept mounting up..estimated 40+ victims after he became a suspect..

Although the Kings County, WA, prostitutes knew that there was an active predator in their midst, he wasn't deterred. GR, played on their greed and would offer them twice, or three times the going rate. GR knew that he would be getting a full refund once the night was over and the victims met their fate...

Will check out "Deadly Run". The scene in The Frozen Ground that was similar was very chilling and scary with the girl in the woods. I have not read up a whole lot on RH so I will do so. I wish they showed more of RH "family" and attempt at living a "normal life" in The Frozen Ground so I think I got the impression he just seemed like a lizardly predator seeking prostitutes to kill like GRK except there are a lot of differences in MO of course. The profilers were ON in the RH case. I think profilers are generally very good, I am still a student but I had a criminology teacher who worked on the Bundy case who was very against profilers and as an assignment made us all write profiles lol.

Cindy Paulsen is so lucky and I'm so glad she was able to bring him down, seems like she must be a very strong person now.

Finding victims who have escaped Serial Killers is very important and can bring a wealth of information, it seems many killers don't always get away with certain crimes. There has to be some victims out there who got away from IK somehow, one is the girl on the river near Deschutes in OR. I just hope people who have interacted with IK have recognized his face on the news and have called something, if anything in to help corroborate and establish his timeline.

northxnorthwest, criminology teachers as well as some profilers discount the spirtual aspect of profiling. Their loss, imo..

Cindy Paulson, was allowed to escape for a reason, imo.. Cindy had a purpose..and fulfilled it.. Good triumphs over Evil...

Not sure if you have read Founder of the Academy; Think Tank/retired FBI Roger L Depue's Bio;

<sniped-read more>
Overview
He was a pioneer in modern law enforcement, a trailblazing leader in the hunt for serial killers. But after decades of staring deep into the darkness, he entered a seminary to search for the good... BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL No one gets closer to evil than a criminal profiler, trained to penetrate the hearts and minds of society's most vicious psychopaths. And no one is a more towering figure in the world of criminal profilers than Roger L. Depue. Chief of the FBI Behavioral Science Unit at a time when its innovative work first came to prominence, he headed a renowned team of mind hunters that included John Douglas, Robert Ressler, and Roy Hazelwood.

In a subbasement sixty feet under the Academy gun vault in Quantico, he broke new ground with analytical techniques and training programs that are still used today.

After retiring from the FBI, he founded an elite forensics group that consulted on high-profile cases, including the Martha Moxley and JonBenet Ramsey murders, and the Columbine school shootings. But coming face-to-face with the darkest deeds human beings are capable of took a horrific toll.

After suffering a devastating personal loss, Depue, on the brink of despair, walked away from the outside world and joined a seminary. For three years this was his safe haven, a place where he exorcised personal demons and found a refuge from terrifying memories of real-life monsters. And it was there, while counseling maximum security inmates, that he rediscovered the capacity for goodness in people, and made the decision to return to the world to resume his work.

Here is Depue's extraordinary personal account, from growing up as a police officer's son to tracking down some of today's most brutal murderers. With its harrowing descriptions of human depravity and passionate call to fight against evil, BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL is both a riveting dispatch from the front lines of a war against human predators...and the powerful story of one man's journey between darkness and redemption.
