It was the DA from Jefferson County, where Aniah's hometown is located, that was not allowed in. Not the Lee County DA.
Thanks for that, I wasn't sure where the hearing was held. So who has jurisdiction? Abducted in Auburn, car found in Montgomery. Will the ruling factor be where Aniah is found?

Pretty sure the case will remain in Lee County since that is where the crime was iniated.

Yes, I think you are right. From what I can see, the case should be tried in the district where Aniah was kidnapped.

Alabama Constitution of 1901, provides in pertinent part “That in all criminal prosecutions, the accused has a right … [to] a speedy, public trial, by an impartial jury of the county or district in which the offense was committed ….

Alabama Rules of Criminal Procedure Rule 18. Trial by jury; waiver; selection and preparation of petit jurors. Rule 18.1. Tria

Suspects are scheduled for a first appearance before a judge within 72 hours after their arrest. Court proceedings are public hearings, and it’s unclear why this hearing was restricted. We questioned several officials, including the district attorney, but they declined to comment. Blanchard’s family was escorted out of the courthouse by deputies after the hearing concluded.

I’m furious! Who are they gagging? The victims family?
Don’t they have to provide a reason for a gag order and who requested it?

The scary thing in your linked article is this ....

"It’s unclear whether a bail has been set for the latest kidnapping count."

Seems to me that it is in the public interest to at least be advised whether or not Yazeed will remain incarcerated.

My best guess is that the gag order is due to both the publicity behind the case and that investigations are ongoing and likely for more suspects.

Maybe the family requested it...

It was a smart move imo.
Good morning, I hope the reason for the gag ( I Pray) is that IY was giving location of AB. They would not want that out until she is recovered. I really don't think I am correct, but that is my hope.

Because they didn't want to tip him off and for him to go underground

How did releasing his photo and having everyone on the active lookout prevent that? If anything, it likely prompted him to run. Instead of thinking he was flying under the radar - he had hundreds of thousands of people staring at his photo and trying to identify him. If they wanted to move in on him without spooking him, they could have just gone to his house and brought him in for questioning. Or at the very least set-up surveillance on him.

I think it's much more likely that it went like this - -

Eyewitness comes to the police and reports account of seeing a black male abducting Aniah from the gas station. Police revisit the tape, show it to the eyewitness, eyewitness confirms that it's the person they saw abduct her. Police quickly release footage asking for help identifying the suspect - he's identified in hours on social media and they move in on him. <----- this is basically exactly what the police are reporting happened and I don't see why we wouldn't just take what they are saying at face value.

I guess I would like to hear from one of our websleuths attorneys - how unusual is this gag order, and what are the likely reasons for it?

Could it be because details are horrific? Could it be to protect the university and avoid panic? Could it be because IY is indeed an informant? Could it be that other arrests are coming and they don’t want to tip their hand?

The police have said that the public’s help is critical to finding Aniah and the priority is finding Aniah. Well the public can’t help if they r put in the dark. No I am sorry but this gag order is protecting the suspect and his circle. It is not protecting the victim and her family. Her family have been pretty much the only ones speaking out to the public and providing any info they possibly can since his arrest.
Just as it has for years the system is protecting this habitual violent offender! JMHO

My heart just breaks for AB's parents. I simply cannot imagine seeing the suspect believed to be responsible for my child's disappearance in the courtroom, and still not know where she is, or what happened to her.

Prayers that her family will receive answers today.

The gag order could just be so that he has a chance at a fair trial and they don't have to move it to another location. Auburn is a relatively small city, selecting an impartial jury might already be a challenge.
Oh poop on his fair trial. Aniah is still missing. That’s all I care about right now. They can figure out how to give him a fair trial after Aniah is found. Moo

There is a case here in Virginia where a family including a teen was murdered in their home. A gag order was immediately issued in the case because those investigating were fearful of harm coming to them. Well it’s been 6 months and no arrest and no justice for this family. But someone(s) violent is still able to walk the street thanks to a gag order that protected them.

He probably wiped the inside of the car down. That may be why they didn’t find prints. He also could have had gloves in his pockets. Since the police say it was planned, he likely had gloves somewhere.

I'm a little behind in the thread (playing catch-up), and apologize if this has already been discussed. In the photo of AB's vehicle in this article, there appears to be something on the ground under the passenger door with a few drops of the substance going towards the tire. I can't tell for certain, but it appears to be blood?:( Can anyone else determine if this possibly dripped from the vehicle? :(

I see that too :(

From what I can see, maybe Aniah was still in the car when he/they drove it to where it was found in Montgomery?

Was it mentioned in IY’s previous arrest the one where they were pulled over for driving erratically with the victim in the car if he was the one driving?

Wondering if he has a drivers license. Even though not having one most likely wouldn’t keep him from driving. Since we know he does not care to follow the law. Perhaps he is not a skilled driver and could explain the damage to Aniah’s car.

I just can’t even begin to fathom how he was out free roaming the streets. He was arrested for attempted murder of a police officer by ramming his car into his! How could there have been a lack of evidence! I know how mad this makes me I can’t begin to imagine what her family is experiencing. Someone out there is responsible for not bringing him to justice sooner. Why would he change his ways if he was never held accountable? I’m afraid there could be other victims out there. If anything good comes from this I hope Aniah’s case will be the charging force to bringing change to how these violent offenders are prosecuted. We deserve to feel safe in our communities.
