Although there seems to have been some pre planning, for her to decide where to leave her car and vanish from. I have actually wondered if she earlier did a practice run, considering the run through the woods at night. Maybe she checked it out one day when it wasn’t dark? I know I wouldn’t run through any type of woods at night if I had no idea what was there! Just some thoughts and speculation .

I'm not going to quote them as they are rumors, but there have been rumors discussed on this thread of issues in her personal life. We've seen dozens of these cases where people run into a roadblock in life and then just decide they want to run away.

Unfortunately I think her family is just attracting even more attention and media by continuing to release statements that read like "hope they are looking for her abductor but idk if they are! Carlee is too traumatized to speak about it!" and talking to the press. If they just thanked the PD, said they are happy to see Carlee home, and then said nothing more, everyone would move on while they resolve this quietly with the PD. Instead it's a media circus and the PD is having to defend themselves against the family.

What I don’t get, is she could have just ran away. Without creating all the drama and chaos…. by conjuring up a fake child on the side of the freeway, and then calling 911. Was she desperate to look like a hero?

Yet she apparently has no explanation ready as to what happened to the child after her disappearance. So her “heroism“ fell completely flat there.
Its just bizarre, IMO.

People have many reasons for making stuff up.Look at Sherri Pappini.

None of know Carlee but an impression of her is formed in our minds. It’s as if an attractive, intelligent, righteous young lady suddenly went totally off the rails for no good reason whatsoever. Maybe in the back of our minds we compare her to similar young people in our own lives. It’s a very frightening thought if it could happen to anyone.

I notice mental illness is discussed as if it caused Carlee to have some sort of out-of-body experience during which time she was not responsible for her own actions. I don’t think it’s quite so black and white. People with mental illness still are totally capable of making conscious decisions and almost always know the difference between right and wrong. I wouldn’t ‘hope’ mental illness on anyone and certainly not consider it an answer to this particular abduction saga. It creates an entire other set of lifelong issues.

We really know nothing of Carlee or her background, but judging from the many who have without question defended her in the face of unsupported information released by LE, she’s been elevated on a pedestal for unknown reasons. Even good people sometimes do bad things.

Just my thoughts as we await the press conference…

There's been times where I am tired of pushing through adversity in my life and want to run away with the circus. Never in a million years would I ever think of creating the circus and trying to be the ring master.

The investigation into the Carlee Russell case continues as detectives are working to determine what happened from the time prior to her 911 call Thursday night until she returned home on foot Saturday night. Detectives spoke to Carlee very briefly upon her return home and are waiting for her to be made available to obtain a more detailed statement about the sequence of events during that timeframe. While we are not in a position to reveal all of the information we have gathered at this point, we can talk about some details that we have not previously discussed.
- After leaving The Colonnade, Carlee went to Target on Highway 280 and purchased some snack food type items. These items were not located in the vehicle or with her cell phone and wig at the scene of her disappearance.
- The Hoover Police Department has not located any evidence of a toddler walking down the interstate, nor did we receive any additional calls about a toddler walking down the interstate, despite numerous vehicles passing through that area as depicted by the traffic camera surveillance video.
- Detectives have obtained surveillance video from Carlee’s neighborhood which shows her walking down the sidewalk alone prior to her arrival at her residence. Fire department radio traffic obtained by several media outlets shows that medics were dispatched to her residence on an “unresponsive but breathing” person. That was the term used in the initial dispatch of the Hoover Fire Department to the residence, and the information about her condition was simply a dispatcher relaying information from what a 911 caller told the emergency communicator. When first responders arrived on scene, they found Ms. Russell conscious and speaking and she was transported in that condition. She was later treated and released from a local hospital.
- Numerous evidentiary items are still being evaluated, and those items are key in the process of determining exactly what took place in the approximately 49 hours Carlee was missing, but also what took place prior to her disappearance.
This release contains all of the information the Hoover Police Department is able to provide at this time. We understand that there are numerous rumors and misinformation making the rounds in both social media and traditional media. While we understand the public interest in this incident, we must maintain the integrity of the case, thus we are limited in what information or statements we can release or confirm at this time. The Hoover Police Department will hold a press conference tomorrow, at which time we will be able to release additional information. The press conference will take place at the Frank and Pam Barefield Training Center, located at 850 Municipal Drive Hoover, AL at 2:30 P.M. central time.

The car was very close to Preserve Parkway. She could probably just walk the ditch on the concrete drainage liner to that road. The access control fence would stop at that underpass.

What if it was a personal attack on her? Then they wouldn't give any warning of potential threats or give the standard "no threat to the community at this time"

That's why I wonder if she had a stalker.

There was a video from Court TV posted up thread. The guest lady said that Carlee had been caught stealing at her job that day and also had flunked her nursing. (I’m paraphrasing there).
What horrible luck for her to ALSO be abducted for two days.
I’m wondering if she just really needed a break and didn’t think this plan through.
Either way, I hope she gets well and gets her life going in a healthy direction.

I can't even imagine what it must be like for Carlee right now.
Best thing she could possibly do, is tell LE the 100% God's honest truth about everything.
Then shut down all her social media, if she hasn't already, because that will just continue to get uglier and uglier.
I'm not sure what it is about social media that brings out the absolute worst in people, but in true crime cases we see it ALL the time. It certainly isn't helpful to someone already in a predicament, to read hateful, cruel messages directed at you.

If indeed this is a hoax, she could easily be charged with wasting city resources, false reporting, and perhaps even more. I really hope the police clear this situation up at the press conference today. I am wondering if she or her parents will be present.

IMO, my thinking is that she didn’t really have a plan, as evidenced by her lack of explanation. Maybe she didn’t want to come home that particular night and hadn’t really thought of what to do until she was already on her way home

this really depends on where she was the whole time though, which at this point we have no idea. The fact that she was seen going home on foot but as of yet not in a car makes me wonder if she was actually outside the whole time?

That's what she should do, but doubtful she'll do it.

In her head what she did, the actions she took throughout this whole ordeal were better than facing whatever she's running from.

Problem is when someone is running, the issue just snowballs, and is much, much worse when it finally catches up with the person. Rather than having faced whatever she running from.

It's going to be a long day waiting for the presser.

Exactly. It's easier to continue that style of behavior when surrounded by enablers allowing a person to skirt owning their actions.

I hope LE will be totally transparent in their presser today. SMH. Tis his whole story has been suspicious from day one.

Exactly. We don't know Carlee or her life. There could definitely be reasons this occurred we are not aware of. I think if it was mental health related, the hospital wouldn't have released her so dang quickly, and her parents would be singing a much different tune.

I do feel like Sherri Papini is just a different case entirely. What Carlee did seems to have been impulsive. But Sherri was calculating and manipulated people around her in order to pull of her scheme, as well as raking in thousands in donations. Not to mention the blatant racism in her made up story as well as her old weird racist rants that were later uncovered. She’s vile tbh. I’m not getting that sense from Carlee. I think more than likely Carlee made a poor decision under stress and didn’t foresee being in the national news.

Frankly, we have zero idea or information on if Carlee planned this or did it impulsively. I am hoping the police clarify these details at the PC.
