How Alabama inmate, corrections officer evaded police during 11-day escape: Timeline

The story starts well before their escape, dating back to Casey White's imprisonment and a fortuitous meeting with Vicky White.

Interesting that CW was serving time for his 2015 crime spree originally at VW’s jail, then got caught having an escape plan, sent to State prison, then comes forward and confesses to a murder knowing he’ll be moved back to VW’s County jail to await trial.
He was just transferred back in February. Didn’t her ex husband pass away in January?
Hard to know how long they were planning this latest escape JMO

Casey White previously planned an escape from the Lauderdale County Detention Center in the fall of 2020, but officials thwarted the plot before he could attempt it, Singleton said. When officials got word of the plot, they found a homemade knife in his possession and learned that he was planning to take a hostage, the sheriff said.

Casey White was subsequently transferred to a state prison, where he remained until February 2022, when he returned to the Lauderdale County facility for court appearances related to Ridgeway's murder, the sheriff said.

I'm glad someone else has researched cw's criminal history. It is extensive and frightening. I wonder if they had a supply of his meds along with them. Meds haven't been mentioned as part of what LE recovered. But, his attorney did say he self-medicated using meth. This person, cw, was a habitual criminal. All his crimes ended in rage. And his victims even involved his own family. I can see nothing to make me think vw was anything any different to him. To romanticize this relationship is unbelievable to me. They are not poor traumatized lovers. They are two criminals who got their just deserts. Their victims and families are the traumatized ones. They have my sympathy!!

Vicky White news - latest: 911 call reveals Alabama correction officer blamed Casey White for police chase

Nice headline, but I am not sure that is one of the more reputable news sources, and I don't believe it is clear that she said to Casey, "you had to stay at a f'ing hotel", but even if she did, she certainly didn't seem to be saying it in anger, but perhaps desperation. Mere seconds before, she clearly and relatively calmly said "let's get out and run". JMO

Casey and Vicky White remained in touch via phone over the next two years, Singleton said. Wow shouldn't that have raised some red flags or is it allowed?

A pair of unnamed law enforcement officials told the Associated Press Vicky and Casey are believed to have taken a "dry run" ahead of the escape, when she and the inmate slipped away from the facility for 40 minutes.

No one was looking for the truck. They could have kept the truck and stayed. Huge mistake. Surely they were watching the same news everyone else was and realized they messed up. Also in the news before they were located was about her picking him up at the car wash. Don't suppose it crossed their mind that that there was a description of the get a way car? For such a well planned escape from jail the rest was just shoddy planning or lack of.

Yes, if they had kept the truck and kept him from walking around in front of cameras and the public, they might have been able to stay hidden longer. With shorter hair of a different color, whether it was her own hair or a wig, she could be out in public a bit and not recognized. Not true of him. If nothing else, his height, weight, and tattoos would have been memorable, and people would likely recollect him if they saw news stories.

LE eventually figured out they were driving a truck but those trucks are everywhere. Seems they would’ve been better off stealing a license plate and hanging onto the truck.

That timeline is not accurate. Consider that once he’s sentenced to 75 years to life, he’s put in a prison, not a jail.

So, while in prison, (75 years to life,) he confesses to the murder. (Fall, 2020.)

Then he’s sent to Lauderdale jail, for court proceedings having to do with his prospective murder trial. As far as we know, that’s when he meets VW. Jail officials discover he has an escape plan, so he’s sent back to the prison.

Then he returns to Lauderdale in 2022.

Interesting. So they interpret it as her blaming him for deciding they would stay at a motel. Do you think this is correct? Anyone have thoughts?
Not sure that she said what they are reporting, but I did not get the sense she was blaming him for anything, based on her tone of voice. Immediately before the questionable comment, she calmly said "let's get out and run". Besides, it was her money. If she had not been agreeable to staying in the motel, they would not have stayed in the motel. JMO

IMHO for all of the supposed planning that went into this escape, the getting out overshadowed the "what are we going to do once we are free" planning. One has to wonder if they thought they would get away with the escape or if they knew all along it would never last long. This was a big roll of the dice for both of them. It is sad outcome for her family.

She probably was the least recognizable since the poster picture didn't really look much like her. Especially out of uniform.

I agree, that pic looks like it’s of a young thing on her first day on the job, definitely not of a 56 year old. Surely there was a more recent such as a DL photo? Anybody on the run would be very pleased to have the Sheriff’s Dept run a photo so outdated…..what’s the point? Glancing at the photos and headlines leaves the initial impression CW took advantage of a naive, starry-eyed young prison guard. JMO

Yes, and police pulled her from the passenger side; you can see on the released bodycam footage.
I find the bodycam footage too dark to make out what's what, but.....
Their car was under surveillance by a whole team of LE when they got into it to drive off and the chase quickly began, so how can anyone be in any doubt about who got into the driver's seat and who was driving, is someone muddying the reports or what?

ITA, but, as someone who follows a lot of true crime, it amazes me the number of people who either don't read or watch news, or selectively read or watch news. When I was growing up, pre-cable and pre-CNN, everybody I knew watched the evening news every night, local and national, and we had the newspaper delivered daily. Now, the only news many people get is from social media sites, Facebook, Tik-Tok, Twitter, you name it. I know, in my own real life, probably half the people I might ask would not have been able to pick either of them out of a line-up two days ago. I guess we WS'ers really may be a 'weird' bunch. LOL.
