Would need more than my phone to distract me from something like this. I think if someone did disable it they were not trying to be sneaky about it. It happened way to fast to do it without her knowing about it. Right?

I'm sure she knew all about it and that there was nothing she could do to stop it. The question is whether this was something that the everyday prison inmate could manage in 15 minutes, or whether this is something that only pro-carjackers can do in 15 minutes.

What if the Shell station was not the last pinged location?
What if that information is being put out there because the last ping was somewhere else and LE saw someone in car #3 that was known to them and they are gathering additional information or waiting for that person (or people) involved to let a clue slip or be lulled into thinking LE doesn’t know anything.
Just a random thought.

This could very well be the case.

To be quick you need to know your way around cars and know what you are doing in terms of the individual systems IMO, especially in the dark.

Two systems makes sense. One being on-star which if i'm not wrong you have to pay for that either by the year or 6 months i'm not sure. I know some people who opt out of that option. Being that its from a dealership maybe it came with 1 free year or something but if thats not case and she opted out of the on-star there had to be a backup which was the lojack/killswitch. Could someone with a criminal history do this? I think so. This quickly? I cant see it.

I look at it like this. If you have those kind of skills and are that good with cars, your stealing a lot more expensive ones, and ones without someone in it. Car thief's just want the car not the driver also. JMO

Thank you! She was on a tight budget, so she was not paying extra for OnStar. However, this was the day she picked up the car from the dealership, so perhaps there were two promo-months with the purchase. Even so, isn't it possible to turn it off?

Assuming that your average criminal does not know how to disable a LoJack in 15 minutes, someone did exactly this at the Shell station on July 17. Would that suggest that a pro-carjacker targeted Danni's car and decided to take her too?

This has been a point of confusion since the beginning of the case. An early JDT post which has since been deleted was that last ping was on Dauphin Street. This statement was later revised to Shell Station. I've never known which to believe but went with Shell because that was backed by LE statement at Chief of Police Press Conference.

Doubt a regular prison inmate could do this...unless thats whats they went to prison for of course. Also about pro carjackers, i do not think they are interested in the person driving the car. Thats just one more thing they need to try to cover up and maybe will get them caught.

If you have time here is a video showing how professionals do it. They are quick but this is what they do. Often they take requests from people on what kind of car they want and they will search until they find it and steal it.

cedgison - any clue to if anyone at any time got in/out of their cars....?
Is it possible occupant of car 3 could go to DNV car & dismantle GPS without her knowledge? (someone said that it is easy to dismantle, it's under steering wheel)

The CCTV is unclear as to if anyone got in/out of cars. Per LE’s statement [to JDT] today, the GPS was not a LoJack; it is a fuse in a panel to the left of the steering wheel. This would probably be easy to remove.

It seems unlikely that some who takes specialty car orders is going to mess up by accidentally disappearing a young mom.

Thanks. So are you saying that the dealer did not apply a tracking system to the car, or that they activated OnStar GPS?

It's been posted that the GPS was deactivated at the Shell station. The question is whether it was a factory GPS system or a Dealer LoJack. It sounds like it was not a Dealer LoJack. That means the factory installed GPS system was disabled at the Shell station?

Sometimes think that DW didn't go back to Shell and decided to return rental because he was afraid occupant(s) of car might have seen him....& at this point he knows something happened to DNV & he's freaked a bit out by it....if he went back there, they might be looking for him......
from what cedgison says (though says doesn't believe LE - not sure why...) there is one person per car.....so: no one to drive DNVs car....they might disable GPS but then....she'd have to willingly follow their car/directions (which would be nuts)

I don’t believe the one person per car statement due to the CCTV (posted & explained earlier in this thread).

What i mean is a professional car thief would of just followed her home that night and stole the car while she was sleeping. Why have another mess on your hands of having to deal with her as well.

What CCTV? There is only one still image of a video that has been circulated, and the timestamp is 11:07:23. That was before Car 3 arrived.

No reason that I'm aware of. There could be a reason or it could just have been tossed out there to add to the confusion IDK. This would be a great question for our esteemed VI. VI are you there?

I apologize; I don’t mean to sound lazy but will you refresh my memory on what the earlier theory of JDTs was? I’m happy to try to explain but I have pages more to catch up on in this thread before I can go back to the first & don’t want to forget to answer y’all.

Let's say at the Shell station DW takes off. Danny's car won't start. She is stuck there with no phone. Car 3 pulls in and she asks for help. After brainstorming to get her car started, the GPS is disabled. And...what happens next?

Yes I agree. That is why I think there was more than one person in Car 3.
