That might have been a response to a reporter’s question, as opposed to him just coming out and saying that unprompted.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — There was a heavy police presence at the intersection of Love Street & Chapel Drive in Hueytown on Thursday evening.
Birmingham and Hueytown Police as well as Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies were on scene.
Hueytown's police chief said, "There was no body found. It's complicated."
Over a dozen marked and unmarked police vehicles were on scene as well as K9 units.

Notice what he did not say?
He did not say no crime was committed here or we see zero evidence of a crime. Nope. No body was found. That isnt the first thing I would think to say.
Can anybody just answer is it a friend or coworker? No names though.

A multi-agency police investigation was underway in a Hueytown neighborhood Thursday night.

The probe was temporarily suspended shortly before 9:30 p.m., and will resume Friday. Some marked units will remain on the cordoned-off scene to preserve the area from any disturbance overnight. Investigators are expected to return some time Friday with a search warrant for a property in that area.

UPDATE: Investigators have left the area for the night expect for some marked units that will hold any possible scene until Friday.

Or they need to bring forensics through, preserve the crime scene. I wouldn’t be positive they didn’t get in.
