Highly unlikely. Taxes aren't delinquent in AL until January 1st of each year. It appears that this property has always been current on tax payments until 1/1/2020.
it shows 0 paid in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019. for years 2016 and 2017 it says
*** PARCEL IN TAX SALE. PLEASE CONTACT COUNTY FOR TAX INFORMATION ***

2002 thru 2014 shows paid and 2018 shows paid.

I did find in simply googling the address that another person was listed as a renter for this address.

I found the same, but we have to remember how incredibly unreliable many of those sites are. I haven't lived in the US in 20+ years and many of the address look-up sites still have me currently living at some of my old addresses. Which I'm sure would be quite the surprise to the current residents of those places ;)

So they sold off some of the property to cover a portion of the delinquency

This is probably a dumb question, but is there a way to get the search warrant that allowed LE to dig in the yard where the body was found? As I recall, they went to the property the day before, but left that evening to get a search warrant, then came back the following day and found the body. The search warrant would presumably have some information about how they knew to search in that area. Is there a way to get that?

I don't think the search warrant to dig up the yard where PH remains located will reveal much crucial information, and don't expect any release of the warrant while this is still being called a death investigation by authorities. I'm more interested in the arrest affidavit or indictment for criminal charges than the search warrant.

There are 4 elements to a search warrant which I don't think were difficult to meet to recover a wrapped body that may have been tossed in s shallow firepit toppled with all the rubbish in the yard.

A valid search warrant must meet four requirements: (1) the warrant must be filed in good faith by a law enforcement officer; (2) the warrant must be based on reliable information showing probable cause to search; (3) the warrant must be issued by a neutral and detached magistrate; and (4) the warrant must state specifically the place to be searched and the items to be seized.

Good catch. I read that incorrectly and assumed this person had an exemption for taxes, resulting in no tax due. But not the case here. I also noticed that the property showed a different owner (female) prior to the 2018 tax year. I hate it when the information does not reflect the sale/change of ownership history. One cannot always rely on the records shown on the assessor's website.

CITIZEN ACCESS PORTAL

Property tax site for Jefferson County. From there you can enter the address and get the last known owner and some valuation information. Not sure what that's worth but things are pretty quiet here so trying to break the silence. Last name of owner hasn't changed with history from 2013-present. Taxes are currently delinquent it appears. Were due 10/1/19 and delinquent 12/31/19. Will soon have a tax lien and be sold at public auction whenever the next tax sale is scheduled.

Thank you! It is a sad day when one (me) starts sleuthing property tax codes!

I was just curios if it could mean rental or rent subsidized etc.

Mainly to see if this house was recently posted for rent. It would seem pretty stupid if one buried a body on their own property or a property they were connected to but we have seen this in many, many cases.

ETA: My comments seems stupid now....most bodies are buried on properties they are familiar with. I am just trying to say what is the degree of separation from perp to house?[/QUOTE

IMO there is a connection to this house in this area of

lol. I’m sure you’re right! Seems we’re all searching diligently for any tidbit of information that we can discuss

Has anyone thought that Paighton sent the text to the wrong person by mistake...that perhaps she was feeling ill-at-ease and thought she was sending it to someone else (parent, close friend, etc.) but sent it to her coworker by mistake? MOO

Yes, I do.

I think PH would have sent the text to somebody she knew would probably be awake at midnight and legal to drive (i.e., designated driver) if she needed somebody to collect her. I think her sister, sister-in-law, or even her parents would have been her lifeline choices. We know her parents already knew about her Friday evening plans for the Tin Roof bar and I think her mom especially probably stayed up until PH would get home.

MOO

I think LE is waiting for a COD before deciding on charges. There is the possibility that no COD can be determined. As an example, drugs could be present in a body but not to the degree to easily prove they caused death. This could make LE to decide if its worth trying to make a case against someone or to just drop everything out compassion towards the family. I don't know whether in Alabama if this information can be kept secret. jmo
IMO the family isn’t going to be satisfied until the whole truth is revealed. Even if the toxicology report shows OD, I expect the family to pursue every avenue. I thought at first that this was a probable OD, but the the more I ponder, the more I’m leaning toward a crime of opportunity. MOO

I don't doubt the family wants the truth. The point I was trying to make was if abuse of a corpse was the only crime committed would the family want her drug use made public to pursue what I consider a minor crime. Abuse was only recently made a felony instead of a misdemeanor.

One question I had when I looked up the property was the (R/S) listed by the property owner's name? Does anyone know the meaning of this?
I am guessing maybe residence/secondary? Rental?

Just curious....

ETA: Residential/Senior?

I work in a real estate law firm. R/S means Right of Survivorship, meaning the deed to the property (which I haven't looked up) is deeded to the owner(s) with right of survivorship, a tenancy by the entirety so to speak.

ETA: Usually a tenancy by the entirety would be between a husband and wife. I don't know real estate law in AL, but usually that language is unnecessary if it's a husband/wife deed. It could be a man and his brother (EXAMPLE ONLY), as joint tenants with right of survivorship.

Addiction is a disease. No shame in having a disease. No shame in discovering disease killed your loved one. I think if tox shows only drugs they may search for other info if it’s out there but I don’t get the impression they are ashamed of her for her fight against heroin.

I agree that her family is not ashamed of PH. However, they may not want the circumstances surrounding her death revealed at trial. jmo

Can't discuss or sleuth the private individual and/or witness unless LE names them a POI or suspect -- with the exception of their allegation being treated as fact by police that PH was seen from across the bar willingly leaving with two HBM (which can also be linked in MSM).

(I don't know what's to discuss about an attorney's statement -- at the request of a parent-- to stop the alleged bashing and harassment of the individual on SM).

I always admire the strength of the families that just straight up say"my son/daughter was addicted to drugs and that addiction killed her" in an effort to encourage others to seek help or don't do drugs.
Agree. I also feel the same when they can discuss suicide and address the stigma against mental health issues and depression.
