I was just about to post that loves2bmom! =)

Fox has not updated their site, I'm assuming because they want ppl to watch the 10pm news...

Thank you guys for keeping us up to date! There wasn't a thing about this on the news down south!

It was cold and drizzle here all day. My heart goes out to the searchers! Bring Kyron Home!

http://www.katu.com/news/local/107834189.html

A spokesperson for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office says about 50 people were part of the search, including paid workers and volunteers.

Multnomah County Sheriff Public Information Officer Mary Lindstrand tells us the search was only in the water. Near the end of the day Saturday Lindstrand said searchers "found nothing of note" – that she can tell us about.

Lindstrand said the dive teams will be at the search again on Sunday.

There is just so much water out there...:(

And the worst kind of diving.. :(

Thanks for the heads up, free! 48 divers? I wonder if they really had that many in the water, or that was the search team total.

It looked just like divers...
Wow, Fox sure got the scoop on that story!!

News said they were just following up on tips/leads...

I'll have to look closer at the shots at 5:30 to see where they were at, kind of looked like
they were in the Multnomah Channel, but don't quote me =)

Thanks to all the locals--freefallzzz, gwenabob, loves2bmom--for keeping all of us up-to-date.

Where are the bridges to get onto the island? I know this has been posted before, but I can't even see it on Google. (LOL--If I make it small enough to see, I can't find the bridge...When the map is large, I can't see the bridge!)

Many thanks...I'm on the recovery end of Intralasik...I think!

48?

I'm trying to twitter my own little local scanner thing (lots going on, very foggy and slick roads) so I skimmed the articles, must of missed that..

I saw that about 50 ppl were part of it , but you have to have ppl to operate the boats, communications, etc... hmmmm...
But 8 agencies was interesting to me...

Oh, and I found out VIA twitter, like I've been tryin to tell ya, is a handy thing!
They (Fox) kept that under wraps I think so no other news crews would come out..
They tweeted just before the broadcast..

Just read about the new searches on Sauvie. Does anyone know if the west bank of the river was searched? I wonder if TH drove the truck into this area with Kyron that morning since she may have been spotted by someone on NW St Helen's road at around 9:30 ish. She could have gone in close to the water and there seems to be a lot of forest area and marshes everywhere. There seems to be quite a few trails all around there. The cell may have pinged if she was so close to Sauvie Island IMO.

Here is a map of the area where I mean, just right of the pink tack right up to the water line: http://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?clien...981,-122.855623&spn=0.007513,0.01929&t=h&z=16

I can't even fathom them doing this unless there is a darn good reason!!! I was pulling leaves out of a little pond today and my hands started feeling like ice VERY quickly! :(

:praying: Let's keep the searchers in our thoughts and prayers!

From the kgw:
"More than four dozen searchers were diving into bodies of water on Sauvie Island, the first time they had been back on the island in about a month."
I'm willing to say 'sloppy writing'.. that is a lot of divers to manage.

I keep hoping if I ignore you .. la la la I can't hear you... la la la .... that that twitter thingie will go away. :D

I agree! The divers likely wear dry suits in the water, so it's not too bad, but topside + wind.. brr! And just the general mud & filth & cow poo, urgh.

To help you for your future questions.. that piece of water is Multnomah Channel. They did dive search it in June and maybe one other time.
If you scroll east from that point, you'll run into the Columbia River.

The whole island is a collection of lakes and waterways.. zoom out and you'll see how daunting it must be. The middle part is a migratory bird sanctuary area and popular water bird hunting area in its season.

Thanks PDX, the area I'm wondering about is the area to the west of the Multnomah Channel. NW St Helens has a few access areas that lead to the water's edge. Lots of marshes there and trails up to the water line as well as tree cover and small forest clusters. TIA.

Yeah, I was really fixated on that in the beginning and now it seems we are leading back to a close-in search, doesn't it? This makes SO much more sense to me *if* someone had pre-scouted the area. Why? It takes SO long to get around the island.. if I was short on time, going to the area you suggest makes more sense.. you don't waste all the time over the bridge & on the slow island road. IF those dirt roads are private enough and safe to go down, that area always made sense to me.

On our adventure, free and I tried to go on one of them, but there was a private residence with a man outside and it was clear that his was a private road.. but that was north from your pin.
I think cyclemama may have explored down that dirt road, back in the spring.

The way kgw says (multiple) bodies of water to search.. coupled with the earlier ground searches this fall, I expect they are more in the interior. We'll see when the news is on in a few. :)

are "Marshes and Swamps" the same meaning in OR. The only reason I ask, my sis was here from Portland, and I have already posted this before, that all she has heard is about the "Tot buried in the swamp"...

I wouldn't consider Sauvie Island a swamp. I would say that there are wetland areas which can be marshy.

I haven't heard that phrase before.. what does she mean?

I think of them differently. Swamps are more water, marshes are floody-y areas? You notice that the larger bodies of water on Sauvie are named 'lakes'. To me that implies deeper and more permanent than a swamp.

Wow, that's one of those topics where you could get lost in wikipedia nerdiness. :D

Here we go:

What is the difference between a swamp and a marsh?

"Swamps are wetlands characterized by the presence of TREES growing on silty to organic muck soils. They usually occur along RIVER floodplains and in poorly drained basins. Swamps are often inundated seasonally, or remain continually flooded.

http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/index.cfm?PgNm=TCE&Params=A1SEC883564

On the other hand, marshes are treeless wetland where lush growths of herbaceous plants (eg, GRASSES, SEDGES, reeds and CATTAILS) predominate.

So, based on the above, I would definitely say SI is more marsh than swamp.

Just another thing...I've heard about houseboats in Or. Here, a houseboat is something you dock and venture out in the water when you want too. Now my dear Sis, God Bless Her Old Southern Fried Chicken Heart Trying To Find A Teaching Job, says in Portland, the houseboats are secure...never leave...kinda like a house on water...that is interesting to me...She also said a friend of her's who lives near the "Bridge" has been questioned and her house been searched 4 times. I do not know where a bridge comes into play here...but if this lady of 80 years old has been searched and questioned 4 X's , I would have to believe LE is doing all they can do...

You are right about the houseboats. They are secured and are more correctly referred to as "floating homes." If they get loose, and they sometimes do if we have unusual flooding, it is a big problem. No plumbing, no water, no electricity. They are really not boats at all.
