Excellent stuff! In the theater discussion, it appears Holmes purchased the ticket to the movie many months in advance. He had an avid interest in the upcoming dark Knight returns movie. His grades begin to slip around the same time. His presentation on temporal illusion demonstrated his knowledge of the subject and the procedure. His psych saw/ heard, was told something that caused her concern.

The "disorder" disguised by intellect and official high level research, went unnoticed for what it was until very late in the transformation from Holmes to joker.

Holmes appears to have struck upon a character figure to use for his intended purpose. I get the impresion he would have been well aware the hold the character had on Letcher previously. Holmes works at McDonalds home of Ronald McDonald for unknown reasons. He was being paid and according to reports no student in thios program would be able to hold a part time job given the course curriculum. In relation here you find a strange article. The stage was already set?

The date of the above corresponds with the date of Holmes presentation on temporal illusions. A virtual presentation of what was about to come.

The Dark Knight Returns was proceeded by an article near the time Holmes would have to have purchased his ticket.

Ronald McDonald set to replace Heath Ledger’s Joker in Batman 3

The Dark Knight Rises... via temporal illusion.. This is his thesis?
Do u know how far ahead that is interesting!

the part time job was in CA prior to the move to CO to start work in the doctoral program.

I have not seen any indication of reports of him buying the ticket months in advance, and he certainly would not have been able to buy it as far in advance as March of 2011 (the date that satire article was posted)

The fact of the matter is, he probably just dyed his hair to dye his hair.

I really don't think there is even a Joker association here.

This is total supposition:

What IF JH never told police he was the Joker? What IF they (the police) asked him (JH) a question, he made a smart @ss comment/response, they asked if he was joking or if it was a joke, and he said yeah, I'm a joker…or something to that affect. From that, it became he said he was the Joker.

I 100% think that is what happened, considering the only reference made to the Joker was second hand information when the Police Chief in NYC made a statement "he had painted his hair red to look like the Joker"

If he really wanted to be the Joker, he'd have simply dyed it green.

I don't know if anyone could or would have needed to buy tickets in advance.

The hair, I completely agree. Been seeing 20 somethings with brightly colored hair since the mid 80's to early 90's when Manic Panic was the dye of choice. Still going on just more name brands to choose from, sold right on campus.

I live in NYC and they started selling tickets in advance for the huge IMAX theater a week in advance, that's the earliest I've seen tickets being presold.

And yes, I grew up in the Manic Panic days of the 90's :) Dying hair is a common thing at that age. I don't really take it as having much relevance at all to the case

They went on sale nationwide June 11. The release date was known long before that.

According to the Police did Holmes not say he was the joker? Would it not then be supposition and conjecture to suggets otherwise? Are we not supposed to develop armchair theories here? Based factually on everything else, including comics. That dark knight comic is so eerily similar and the shooting did occur at a showing of the dark knight returns. It is too viable a connection to discount. imo. As is Holmes presentation.

The brilliant neuroscientist has left a trail for everyone to follow, unfortunately, we may have to be a brilliant neuroscientist to follow it. I would expect more complexity than average. I suspect there are those within the program and in his past who know what his fixation and interest was. Fenton may have just caught on that his brilliant leading edge research may be dangerous.

And.. was there not a gag order put on all that?

IMO< too much other stuff matches up!

The police never said he referred to himself as the Joker. The police chief of NYC said that he heard from the police in CO that he "had his hair painted red and said he was the Joker".

Which as prior posters have mentioned, is something very easy to get twisted in the the game of "I heard it from another person".

That Dark Knight comic really isn't as similar as people are making it out to be. For one, he's shooting people in a pornographic theater. The storyline in that comic is not really similar at all. You could probably find storylines in a comic book somewhere to back up any crime, if you looked hard enough.

So he would not have been able to buy tickets in March of 2011 as suggested by previous poster.

They were still filming it in Pittsburgh in March 2011. (Seriously, Pittsburgh? Was Allentown unavailable?

There has been absolutely nothing else matching him to the Joker. Besides red hair, when the Joker is known for green hair.

The only thing tying him to the Joker is that one anecdote relayed by the police chief of NYC.

IIRC, the NY Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly, did speak to Chief Oates, prior to making that statement (Joker).

And like others said, it could have been something as simple as

"Are you supposed to be the Joker or something" morphing into

"suspect said he was the Joker"

It has never been mentioned by anyone but Kelly

And of course there was the other strange connection to the gangster movie trailer, where the gansters emerge from behind the screen in a movie theater and begin shooting indiscriminately. That was apparently being shown before the dark knight.
The bits and pieces found on other threads, the factual stuff is all relevant to this discussion imo. The validity of each so called fact is being debated on the other threads Unfortunately, we are not yet privy to some of the most important details. Fenton and the uni are more concerned with liability issues right now. Gag orders are still in effect. The dates of some of the proceeding stories comics etc are really only relevant in relation to what Holmes knew and when. His computer records may eventually confirm how obsessed he was with the joker character or whatever his fetish.
The Ronald McDonald becoming the dark knight story was from March 2011. From the comic thread.

Could've been but until the arresting officer's report is released, none of us will know for sure exactly what was stated by JH; and then probably many still won't believe it.

For all we know, JH could've claimed to be Ironman or Rainman; a million other characters; or none at all. We can only go by what's been released, in MSM thus far. ;)

Thinking about it, it makes sense (to me) that Batman's nemesis might want revenge upon 'that' particular movie, simply because he might've been upset that his character had been excluded.

Personally, I think he'd entertained many "how to" scenarios in his mind and settled upon the movie theater because, environmentally, it afforded him everything he would need - ability to keep low profile until he was ready to kill, large number of captive/unsuspecting victims, easy access in and out with limited escape routes for his victims, ability to blend in and change when ready, etc. IOW, the movie theater allowed him to do everything he wanted to do as opposed to other public venues. It would be awfully hard to take people by surprise if you are dressed as a gun wielding armor clad lunatic in a public place. I think it was the theater, and not the movie per se, that mattered most to him. I think he'd decided upon the theater and the movie's premier and popularity was a bonus (packed theater).

So selecting the sneak preview of the movie was random as it relates to the whole package?

ABC News is reporting Holmes made the Joker remark to police, not during the shooting.

It's likely Kelly obtained the information from Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates -- according to reports, the two are good friends. In fact, Oates was a member of the NYPD for 21 years.
