While I could understand his delight that the murderer was going to :jail:, the bottom line was that many lives had been wrecked, including the murderer, and it was a very sad time. Yes, it is a celebration of justice but I can't help but feel for the children, who have now lost both parents, and Allisons family who now have to pick up the pieces. How these poor people will ever find peace is beyond me. I can only imagine the feeling of devastation they have now knowing that he probably did do it. Awful.

We ALL prayed for justice, yet none of us actually has the right to place judgement on any other, anytime. :couch: So 'SHE' says, having been one of the biggest mouths screaming for justice here. :biglaugh:

Imagine how those little girls will feel for the rest of their lives if we don't. :dunno:

At the end of the day, it's human nature to desire to have one's 'guesses', sleuthing or whatever, validated :floorlaugh: it's a personal 'glory' thing that the majority of us innately possesses, yet once we've had those 'selfish' desires fulfilled ... what are we left with? Certainly not the glory of "I told you so!" :laugh: ~ so let's try to be BIGGER and send LIGHT ... simply for his soul. :hand:

I'm actually highly surprised that he's managed to muster the strength to not take his own life by now .... and THAT in itself, shows that he does have a conscience & is thinking of his little girls & other loved ones. Having NOT taken his own life to avoid this inevitable humiliation, must've taken massive GUTS ~ like I cannot ever imagine. :waitasec:

Yes, but who would have thought - substituted service allowed via facebook, hmm? MKM Capital Pty Ltd v Corbo & Poyser (Unreported, ACT Supreme Court,2008).

It's just a sign of the times and another way that the law is embracing social media.

The law just needs to catch up re: 'internet fora such as this one' as it did in the above case, albeit in a different area, but still, nonetheless valid.

As for individual forum contributors, in my personal view only, I wouldn’t worry about the coppers knocking on your door and threatening you with a subjudice contempt charge. The rules are aimed squarely at the publishers. That doesn’t mean that you should just ignore the whole issue of potentially influencing a trial unfairly of course.

We want people to be convicted on the basis of admissible evidence, not largely uninformed personal opinion. We don’t want to live in a community where people get off on threatening those charged with offences or by screaming for blood. 99% of people understand that though. And jurors are people like you and me. We aint morons. When a judge tells us to come to a decision based on the evidence we hear in the court we know that’s important and we are decent enough to do that.

If journalists think your deliberations and sharing with each other on this forum is primarily a vehicle for them to study you then that’s a bit sad given that most posters seem to be here to empathise with Allison and her family. But don’t be told what to think and feel with vague threats about subjudice.

Defamation. Most lawyers I know dread the client who comes in wanting to sue someone for defamation. They almost always underestimate the time, resources and money that go into getting a defamation matter in to court and significantly overestimate how much they will get in damages. That’s not to say that you can’t be sued for harming someone’s reputation by what you say on the net, but common sense will usually help you decide what’s appropriate and what isn’t.

All this is just IMO and MOO. If you think you are at some legal risk then go see a lawyer, don’t base your understanding of the law on stuff you see written by anonymous posters on the net. But by the same token don’t be bullied or scared into thinking your feelings and beliefs are not valid or welcome. We are all human being and humans are full of passion. Sometimes that passion makes us do awful things (like kill people) and sometimes it makes us do beautiful things (like put flowers on a bridge).

If this is directed to my comment i seen warnings on the QPS and NSW police force pages on facebook. I'm still trying to find the link to the warnings by police on the page because since they left the warning there have been pages and pages of updates. As soon as i find it as i said in my comment i will link it to here ( because nothing can be copied and pasted)

Congratulations to QPS for making a quick arrest. And I'm not being cynical here , this matter is complex and even though it seems it has been a long time coming it is short compared to other cases.
And good on you web sleuthers out there who stuck with their gut feeling on this one and weren't afraid to air their views.
 
I feel..... relief- I think. Allison would be at peace knowing her darling girls are with her Mum and Dad. I can't bear thinking about what the Dickies have gone through to get to this point. Keeping up appearances- ugh! I feel peaceful after witnessing how they have handled themselves these last 2 months knowing that these amazing people now have their little granddaughters. In my opinion his meal and blanket wouldn't be 5 star quality to say the least...hope these men and women that have worked so hard to bring justice for Allison and her family are having a little fun with him tonight!!!!!!!
