I'm curious why Greta van Susteren states "shame on the Netherlands and Aruba." It's not surprising that Natalee's mother is frustrated that no one was charged with the disappearance of her daughter, but Greta claims to have have proof that v.d.Sloot murdered Natalee. She also claims that there are accomplices and she knows their identities. The Netherlands isn't a developing country with an inferior judicial system. If there is proof, Dutch prosecutors would file charges.
I cannot help but wonder how this would have turned out had police quietly collected evidence via phone taps and surveillance after the disappearance. v.d.Sloot is clever, but not that clever that he could evade a clandestine police investigation. He received daily updates on the police investigation, which aided him in avoiding prosecution.
There was also the imagined sexual assault narrative. Stephanie Flores was not sexually assaulted, which reinforces the theory that v.d.Sloot has a fast, violent, unrestrained temper. What I mean to say is that Natalee's mother seemed to rely on imagination rather than facts during the early stages of the investigation. This helped the suspects and compromised investigators.
"Like many Arubans who understood the anguish of the missing girl's parents, van der Biezen is reluctant to accuse them of interfering in the investigation. But she observed that their freelance actions in confronting witnesses and suspects blew early opportunities for clandestine surveillance.
...
Renfro says she was perplexed when Twitty immediately concluded that her daughter had been kidnapped and made no effort to check hospitals or police about accident victims. Within hours, Twitty had concluded van der Sloot was responsible, and within a couple of days she was telling TV interviewers that she knew her daughter had been gang-raped and murdered."
